Is it just me? My char was stage one cold so lit my fire in Zub castle and sat in front (<1m distant) for about 10 minutes. No change to my temperature.

It will warm you up when outdoors, within rooms it won't. Should be fixed and I'm sure they will.

It works perfectly outside. Was cold and soaked, and it only took about 3 mins to get dry, and warm. Just don't light them inside buildings right now, as it's glitched/bugged.

Same here, was almost completely geared too but experiences with 049 on experimental gave me a flase sense of "mwah, I'll be allright". The environment now on stable is much less forgiving and you really need gear for the weather. (good job devs!)

The Gorka jacket and raincoats will keep you dry so you don't cool off too much to begin with. You also cool down when in forests. Once in open fields with some sun you start to warm up and may even begin sweating  / overheating (have not experienced this yet on stable but did in exp.) So you should keep lighter clothing in your backpack. Good thing is you can store items in a jacket, shirt, coat so it doesn't take up more room than the items themselves. No reason not to carry some extra clothing. Apparently some hats will also keep you warm and some won't. I think wellies help you keep dry too (duh).

For some reason, sweatshirts do jack all to keep you warm.

The DayZ PC is the toughest and weakest game character ever. He can run non-stop for hours, but can starve to death the same day he eats 3 cans of peaches, 6 apples, 4 cans of pop and a potato. I have used the fire Indoors perfectly fine, it warmed me up and dried my gear. I did notice that it had no effect when I lit it upstairs, so I put it out and moved downstairs and all was well.

I guess it only works indoors on the ground floor.

You sir, need a warm hat.  TBH the Ushanka did shit all for me, I kept cooling off, may as well have been a freaking bandana.  I find the beanie, the radar jeep cap (it's actually a jeep cap, they call it a radar cap because a character from the movie and TV Show MASH wore one all the time, his nickname was Radar O'Riley) and the zmijovka work best.

Finally hooked up with a friendly player, and we got caught in Novodimtrovosk at night in the rain and started freezing, then he said we'll chop some firewood. Then I said wait we need a bundle of sticks and some rags to make a fireplace. So then we split up looking for sticks. I had a bright red hypothermia status and was freezing to death. Then as I'm looking in the Wiki I can figure out you can split a log into sticks LOL. Of course my buddy was long gone and it was pitch black, and I was frantically looking for an axe so I could make sticks. I thought to myself, ahh, you won't freeze to death in like 10 minutes cmon. Then as I was going in and out of buildings in which I can remember times almost tripping over piles of axes, none could be found. Got into another room with some utensil with a handle oh whats this an Axe! You are dead. Just like that lol. The cold don't play no games! As of now I've built a campfire on the second floor of the apartment buildings you find in cherno and it's warming me, I'm sitting alarmingly close but it takes about 5 minutes to go from soaking/cold to no status of damp or cold whatsoever.
