Cattle Prod

I've legit found four, one in one of those blue-doored warehouses, one in a regular house, and two inside one of those piano buildings.

 

Why are they so common?

This was all within like 15 minutes btw.

So we can test them! If nobody finds them, how will we use them and report issues to the developers?

Its odd that attaching a battery does not give the usual feedback you got for flashlights. You drag&drop the battery and it seems to disappear. Does the "loaded" cattle prod knock out players?

Found one last night, then went to the police station and found a stun baton, one hit knocks a zed down, seconds kills it.

i still prefer a fireaxe over the prod. I just feel like the range is longer. i find prods all over cherno if you want one.

They each serve their purpose. I carry both a fireaxe and a stun baton. Yesterday I spotted a guy finishing his loot run at Msta. Decided not to make contact but instead follow him to Staroye. He started looting from the north side of town and I knew he'd likely be headed into the yellow food building through the front door. I patiently waited behind the inside door of the back room for him but heard him chowing down in the food room, so I promptly went in and zapped him unconscious. Only lasts a few seconds, but it's enough to steal what you need and GTFO! lol

 

Not sure if the cattle prod has a longer "unconscious" duration, but it seems to deplete batteries quicker.

I just killed a deer with a Cattle Prod. Took me a few tries but eventually abusing its low awareness and short flight distance as well as the Cattle Prods range I managed to hit it. It ran for ~4 meters (probably due to server lag) before falling down, dead.

 

I have a new favorite hunting weapon!

The cattle prod is useless on zeds.  10 hits, nothing....

 

The stun baton is pretty good, but as I mentioned in several other threads, the batteries don't last long, you need to store batteries which are hard to find sometimes, and they have only 1 purpose whereas an axe is multi purpose and takes up zero backpack space.

 

IDK, call me crazy, but the new melee weapons seem like a waste of time.

Can someone comfirm that cattle prod is broken ? I think its broken becase stun baton working perfect on humans. I knock down with one stun baton hit.

I did.  The battery could have been dead already but I thought I grabbed my new spawn one which was 100% untouched.

 

The stun baton though... I do like it but it is one of those "nice to have" vs "need to have things."

My buddy did 3 hits to a fresh spawn last night after we saved him from a pack of zombies.  He used the stun baton.  3 hits, nothing.  It was loaded with a battery.  After that we sent him packing with a chest holster, 1911, 2 clips, and 40 rounds.  Fair trade for research.

Cattle prod and stun baton are fun to play around with if you don't have an axe, but the batteries don't last long (not to mention no way of telling how much charge is left)

You can right click the battery and lick it to check the charge.

The cattle prod will work in two hits but it will eat your battery dead after two kills on zeds (4 hits), the stun baton is much better with the battery going dead after 4-5 zed kills (8-10 hits). I have found that I can hit a zed with my baton, knock it down, pull my hoe and hit it with that for the kill. That is much too slow though. I find the stun baton is faster with hits than the hoe or the splitting axe, another reason I like it is that it knocks them down first, I am not standing there getting my shirts ruined like I do with a regular melee weapon..

Has the fire axe been fixed BTW?

we tried zapping a dude with the cattle prod, he took 2 hits (it was charged) and didn't go down. seems pretty unreliable to me
