Two Dissimilar Questions - 1.0 Weapon List and Gradual Item Decay

Recommended Posts

Question 1 - Release the list Torchia! No sense in hiding it now. I suppose that's more of a demand than a question /foldarms

Question 2 - Is gradual item decay still on the table?

Obviously we've got things like the Pristine-Ruined spectrum, and the degradation of things like axes and can openers. But what about the rest of the items? I assume weather/exposure will play a role to give added benefit to things like tents/stashes. But what about, say, firearms... or jackets... or anything that degrades over time?

Personally, I think this is an essential element in deconstructing the supposition of DayZ having a distinct "end-game." If one is constantly having to re-gear and/or maintain/repair gear, due to the turnover of items provided by gradual decay, then there will never be a point at which one has fully "geared."

Question 1 to me atleast, is meh.

They may not know ALL the guns themselves yet, They probably do, but who knows?

Question 2 however, I hope get's answered with a Yes..

It seems promising at the moment, seeing as axes and such decay as you use them..

But who knows, I lost a lot of faith in the dev team when they decided to not add 5.45.. So many guns, Both AR's and " Pistols " could stem from this.

From the most recent DevBlog, 25 August 2014

I'm getting pretty excited now since we've planned out concepts for new zombies, settled on DayZ 1.0's weapon list (melee and firearms), created a preliminary list of assets needed as vehicle attachments and parts, and began to discuss with Chernarus legend, Ivan Buchta, how we might improve the visuals on the map.

You don't have a right to demand anything from the developers of DayZ.

Please no - yes knowing is nice but I like to be surprised as well. Also people would cry about their favorite gun not being on the list, a gun they don't like being on the list, the guns on the list not being implemented fast enough, gun A being released before gun B, the list being too long or too short etc.

Same for melee weapons - both announcing a Katana or not announcing a Katana would probably result in a shitstorm (pretty sure there won't be a Katana though). Releasing weapons one at a time might reduce community backlash and lead to better actual feedback. And you can still change your mind without people going "BUT YOU PROMISED!"

I'm pretty sure item decay is definitely planned ... I could have sworn reading about it in a recent dev blog or something (maybe I'm crazy ;) ) .

And for question one, I'm with minion on this one I would hate for them to divulge the entire list before we even get halfway to 1.0 , it encourages people to bitch about things like said above a lot more .... But then again if the 1.0 list is complete crap in most peoples opinion, it might be good to release early so the bitching ends by the time it's actually up to 1.0 lol .. Buut I have faith in the devs that the list will be bomb so let's save it for secret .

Of course I do! Much in the same way that they have the same right not to listen to my demand at all.

Try taking life less seriously, when something's ended in "/foldarms" tends to hint at the sarcastic nature of the previous statement.

Meh, I don't really care that my favorite weapons might be left off the list. I just want to know what we'll be working with come 1.0, so we can make informed judgments now when changes can be made without fundamentally changing DayZ. For instance, if they were adding something like an M107 (regardless of how unlikely that is) then I'd want to know about it. The same can be said, I'm sure, if they were planning on adding whole swathes of "Western" weapons over "Eastern" weapons, I'm sure the folks who value that type of thing would want to know about that too.

Since day one of alpha I wonder how many and which weapons will be in game. Mod had 7 different assoult rifles/battle rifles plus four snipers/DMRs.

As long as the list contains an M14 with an assortment of attachments, I'm happy..

Yeah, I mean the mod didn't really have that many weapon platforms when you really look at it.

Folks always say "Well, you can't expect them to have every weapon under the sun in the game." Well yeah, I don't. But I expect a decent and wholesome lineup that's at least equal to that of the mod.

I mean, they're going to have to put in some more NATO weapons eventually. Or else you won't see me trying for helicopter crashes just to get an M4A1 which really isn't any better (or just is categorically worse than) other assault rifles.

Part of the allure for the helicopter crashes in the mod, for me at least, was the "you never know what you're going to get" factor. Could be a FAL. Could be an M240. Could be an M40.

If it were just M4A1s spawning (to say nothing of other gear, like NVGs and the like), then color me uninterested.

Not true, as much as I'd like to see the list, if they release it, they'll have to deal with people complaining about it.

I often die multiple times a day, and I'm sure I'm not alone in that.  After a point a lot of people stop valuing their lives much in DayZ, especially those who regularly pvp.  The only way that's going to change is if living longer grants some sort of advantage, which is possible since they've discussed subtle skill systems or developing better immune systems etc.

The point I'm making is that item degradation as a means to having to constantly gear up just wouldn't work that well except for those who are super into staying alive currently.  Those people definitely exist of course, but I just don't see it being much of a major factor unless a lot of things change.  If you make them degrade in a rather short period of time then it just becomes an annoyance, like having to use a weapon cleaning kit every 30 minutes or whatever would be super dull.

As for a weapon list, I don't really mind waiting.  It's a bit boring to know everything that's going to be in.  I wouldn't be terribly fussed if it were released either, but it would be less to look forward to.

Same thing'd happen if they just leave it as is! But if there are any serious problems/reversals from statements, we'll be able to see it and highlight it.

Plus, and I can't speak for anyone else, it'd allow me to make informed judgments on it (and therefore be able to offer critique) rather than have us pissing in the wind.

What do you mean by problems or reversals? If the list is decided and they're not in the mood to change it, then pissing in the wind is exactly what we'd be doing.

I'd kind of like to see the list, but then also, we miss out on the surprize factor that way.

edit - actually I've already got a critique, m1 garand was confirmed (apparently) what the fuck?

If they were, for example, to include an anti-materiel rifle. Which would be a reversal from previous statements.

That and if transparency is going to be their hallmark, might as well keep the playerbase informed. Even if they don't plan on tweaking it, which they've been receptive to in the past.

I don't particularly care if they don't make it public, but I don't see any additional harm that would arise if they did, that wouldn't already (or isn't already occurring) happen.

This forum is 99% pissing in the wind =P

It's pretty rare that the devs take notice of anything on here.

There were 10 different M4 versions, same was with AK. Which we allmost have now with atachment system, We need new platforms like G36, L85, SCAR, SG 550, FAMAS, AUG and maybe some of exotic ones like VHS-2 (Im patriotic). Combined with current atachment system and painting parts it can produce hundreds of different combinations. And not all have to be 100% realistic (interchagable parts)
