I never replied with "yes"...

i moreso do with "depends"...now they start thinking what i just said while my friend has all time in the world to aim at their wiggle, wiggle heads... :P

If they deceide my answer wasent satisfactionary for them and pull out a gun *boom headshot*

If they ask what "depends" means i go on in lenght about flexible morals ect. ect. but in the end its *boom headshot*

Only if they make an effort and reply with something like "eh, yeah guess thats how it goes" or something at least a bit more Elaborate, they can live...

Well... I find it hard to react in some other fashion to some random dude who is running up to me yelling "Friendly! Friendly! Friendly!". If anything, he is a justified threat, even if that's just drawing attention to himself and me. In my (rule)book, he gets capped even if he's a freshspawn.

My advice: hide in a room/bush/grass before spamming the "Friendly!" gag. The person you met is more likely to respond with a conversation if he can't shoot you first.

In a game like DayZ you mostly have to work your way from being a threat to a friend. Not the other way around.

Don't walk up to random strangers asking them if they are friendly.

People are much more friendly when you have a fully automatic assault rifle aimed at the back of their head, and they have no-where to run or hide.

Edit: Or when you shoot them in the thigh with a mosin, bandage them, handcuff them, and have a friendly chat while they're restrained.. Suddenly they're very happy to communicate.

I would be very irate as you ruined my pants.

Generally speaking, most players tend to be more civil if the other is unarmed or at least has their shooter holstered.

Would you rather be irate, or dead?

'cause, Irate you have control over.. Dead, I have control over.

I heard the most disturbing "friendly" conversation last night.

Dude1: "Hey, are you friendly? Don't shoot!"

Dude2: "That depends, you a friend with benefits? What do you have in those pants there?"

... this was in the police station in Svetlo. I was hiding in the back bedroom on the 1st floor. I couldn't help myself, so I chimed in...

Me: "This conversation is going to be hilarious on YouTube!"

... at this point shots are immediately fired, I guess each other thought I was working with the other and they decided to fight. I hear one of them who survived say, "I got him. Where's the other?" It was at that point when I ran out the side door laughing.

I think that's key, if they know you could have shot them....but chose not to builds a lot of trust quickly. That's not to say I haven't been backstabbed....A LOT lol. The worst bit is most of my steam buddys play l4d, and the rest are still on the mod. So I have to meet people that way in game for now :)

WOW! So important thread! #1 Rule in DayZ is that you cant trust anyone. Cant handle it, dont play the game.

You can trust some people.. But that trust is earned and you have to know how to earn it and when people are earning it from you.

Exactly.. That's how you build trust - Have someones life in your hands and don't take it.

Being a fresh spawn and saying "friendly" to a geared guy means nothing.

Being a geared guy and saying "I'm friendly" to a fresh spawn, and NOT shooting them, actually means something.

Make your friends outside of the game.  Hope that you will come across cool, friendly people in-game, but temper that with the expectation that you won't.

There are lots of friendlies in this game. Just don't go running around screaming "Friendly??Friendly!!" everywhere. I never use this word. I often ask different questions based on space and time instead, and when asked if I'm friendly, I reply that I'm not hostile. Never got killed after a conversation started. Met many wonderful players that I play sometimes with, and others I've never played with again apart from the time we met in-game, and played for a few hours.

There's lots of players who kills others because they like that in games with guns, and many others that kills because they're nervous or can't seem to be able to trust others for fear of loosing their gear. There's lots of different players, but no matter how many times I get killed, I don't chance my play style because I like it and enjoy my time quite a lot, even in this very early stage of development and in a n unfinished game.

To each his own.

If they are holding guns in their hands, take it they are not "friendly", that's how I approach it.

You will meet genuinely friendly players. Don't believe the hype.

If they are saying friendly, they aren't.

Hold a conversation as if there is no danger.  More often then not, there won't be.

Shouldnt this technically be in the new player section? As that is like the first damn thing you learn about this game? lol

I have over three hundred hours and I still can't ever be sure who is friendly and who isn't.

My evolved response to friendly ...

I run away saying I am sure he is honest but can't risk it or I blow him away if he approaches me and I can't get away.

Stay still, no threatening Moves, keep cool and we can be friends. Anything else and no deal.

Yesterday a group of Foggers and I were hanging out in a western town.  We had the area pretty well covered when we heard something in game chat.  It was a guy claiming to be friendly, we've been shot at and killed enough to know it's not often someone is "truly" friendly and we suspected a trap because we had already engaged several other players there.

One of our guys talked to him for about 5 minutes before they agreed to meet out in the open.  Our guy disrobed to give this random a sense of security, the random showed himself with his gun on his back and the crack from a Mosin could be heard as his body crumpled to the ground.  After checking the area we came to the determination that this guy was truly sincere with his intentions and I believe we honestly all felt badly about killing him.

There are some friendlies out there it's just hard to find them with all the random KOS going on, I wouldn't blame the guy that died at all if he became a KOS after that encounter.

Not going to lie, if you came to me and said friendly while pulling a gun I'd be getting ready to drop you like a hot potato.

But for you to say no one is friendly is an outright lie. I know a lot of friendly people who won't shoot unless shot at first, me included.

Put yourself in a good defensive posture before initiating contact or conversation. With so little to do in the game right now you can't expect them to not kill you or react and kill you for thinking you are going to kill them. I've had plenty of friendly encounters, but a large majority of encounters involves us both not wanting to fight but not wanting to die either. We hide behind something with weapons ready and talk to eachother, figure out neither of us want to fight, we go our separate ways and watch our backs.

If you run directly up to someone yelling friendly, they are going to take that the wrong way. Its all about how you approach the situation.
