NPC villagers, pedestrians, and military?

Recommended Posts

What do you guys think about having hundreds of NPC's on the map and interacting with us and the environment. I think it would be awesome it will make each server unique.

If this is a suggestion, it has been gone over many times, the result is always the same, bad idea, wrong game...

The problem with NPC's is that they get old really fast, drain resources that can be used for the zombie and animal ai and become predictable to the point of boring. They put AI in some of the mods and they really didn't add anything to it.

Aside from infected, and dead bodies - all characters in DayZ must, and will be - living, breathing human beings.

Hello there

I see the roles OP is looking for being played by the various wildlife when it hits.

If the guys manage to get an actual eco system in where you could see predators at work (inc zedz) then that would "fill out" the world hugely but still leave the main interaction to the human players.

Ahh it seems this is a dried up topic that has been discussed and debated way before I asked lol. I guess it wont happen best to leave it to strictly human players

Rocket talked about never wanting to put in NPCs because it ruins the experience.

Imo, just a very little little dev compromise could also do the trick. Have one or very few (within 5) location(s) on the map (or a modular "base" that can spawn anywhere on the map or at certain points) that's contains humanoid uninfected NPCs. They could be (crazed) survivors, bandits or some kind of military presence, some outright hostile, some perhaps not.

But I can already tell they'll prolly never be added, so a mod has to do that somehow. Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying this should be(come) a major aspect of gameplay, but fluff is nice to have.

Still, I see potential. For example, if you really wanted to take it far you could have few uninfected places per each server restart, from the smallest town or point of interest to the capital / major cities. There could be 'living' folks there, some armed perhaps, and possible zombie migration (or scripted if not random or natrual) could put a strain on them. Player interaction could or may not be a factor there.

But again, that'll probably be in a mod. It would spice up DayZ SA though. More content. But if the older statements will hold forever, then I guess -> Mod for SA, not original SA to get that stuff.

It's just a question of getting humans to not behave like badly programmed A.I. bots!!  which I think slowly but surely the tide is turning in that department..

Once .48 hits its going to get allot more intense for players. Sure there will still be those few but i think ppl will be thinking of alternative routes of play rather than KOS once they get board enough of no human interaction.

NPCs would just get shot on sight like the rest of us.

It doesn't make sense with the "world abandoned to the zombie apocolypse" lore. Too many players can make it tricky too.

haleks who did all the DaiZy SP mods did a pretty good job of making aggressive NPCs especially in 2018 there were friendlys too
