Sniping is a cowards technique?

Recommended Posts

I stopped playing Battlefield when 4 came out. It's buggy as hell I mean probably even has enough bugs to compare to the current state of early access in DayZ! And they pretty much just left an unfinished game and moved onto Hardline.

Up until Jan of this year it was unplayable for most.  I bought the game in January and every other patch made it unplayable.  Today, it is playable, but I don't find it enjoyable in part because of the cheaters, and the mindless WW1 tactics.  Most people do not squad correctly, use their mic...  They just run around without a plan.  One game alone with a full side MOST of the players for the other team went to snipe.  That annoyed the hell out of me as they had all the hiding holes scoped out and were just being ultra annoying byatches, until some of us went to our airburst, and we not only wiped the landscape with their bloody corpses but many decided not to rejoin.

But that's BF4.  Here is entirely different.  I've set up one of my toons with LR scope & Mosin and am contemplating the best place to snipe some towns.  I haven't done it yet... But just a matter of time.

One question - how fast do the LR scopes stay useful?  I assume they get wasted after a while.

So? It's DayZ relevant isn't it? Doesn't mean I support sniping, are you mentally retarded? :'). Okay but seriously, this thread has lived way past it's point so let me kill it right here. SNIPING and KOS SNIPING is two different things. Sniping is a tactical advantage a squad/team can use to scope out for any opposing against them, and yeah that includes telling them where zeds are because lets be honest, those little bastards do nothing but blow your cover anymore. KOS sniping is the scared act of not wanting to kill someone close up because it may result badly with a team nearby etc. Okay, I think we're done here.

Pathetic and immature ad hominem attacks aside; scared? Hardly. Why would I be scared of someone when they're half a kilometer away from me? I snipe at bambis when I'm bored. I snipe at decked out people when I'm bored. I also go into town with a Mosin and just swap out my LRS for a PU scope to deal with people at closer range. I fear neither you nor anyone else in this game because it's A) a game, and B) most people in it are really bad. I'm assuming you're not excellent either if you get killed by beach campers often enough to make this post.

Sniping innocents from the rooftops is a cowards way to have fun. But laying down coverage fire for your squad at NW Airfield isn't, thats part of the game, and it requires a hell of a lot of skill to do it right.

I have (now) seven sniper scalps attached to my belt.

This one got away...

A more appropriate name for this topic would've been, "Getting sniped is a n00b's technique."

You said a lot there, I'm trying to figure out if it was really cleaver tongue in cheek or if you meant something else.

  1. Do you mean if a sniper actually hits you you're a noob for not keeping moving eradically and being aware of your surroundings?
  2. Or do you mean sniping people is a noob way of killing people?
  3. Or a combination of #1 and #2 above?

I'm gonna go ahead and let you reread the topic's name. Let me know what you figure out. I'm a fairly easy marker.

I was just sniping the spire in Novo with my friend. I do believe we killed one guy... Don't judge us, we were getting the hang of the rifle and the scope - how else are we gonna do that if not with unpredictably moving targets?

Anyhow, we were shot not a minute after that. I don't know whom by, I don't know from where, but it doesn't matter much, we're dead. We were lying prone in the grass just above the church north of the spire. Recognise yourself? :D

Good job anyhow. We were a bit stupid, we didn't check our surroundings thoroughly enough before getting comfy.

Off to the next character concept: 8 slot survival. Let's see how that works xD

Easy A: he who is killed by snipers is bad at life and isn't worth the pinch of lead in his lung.

In the absence of a meme:

I don't always hit people sniping

but when i do they're standing still.

I hole up mostly in places where people are going to come to stop, not travelling through.  Though i have hit a few runners out in Westside fields.

The amount of people is see climbing ATC roof or Firehouse roof in places like Balota etc is ridiculous, or stopping to look for/pickup loot in Hangars in NW.

if you see shineys, be like the crow: swoop in and pick it up (running with TAB open helps and hoover up the items as you run over them).

If you're checking your reflection in that P1 magazine you're either toast in the first 2 shots or you're probably on your way - albeit slightly frazzled at my failure to hit you.

organising your loot at the item (rearranging to allow for slots to accomodate new loot)

checking your compass in hand

reading maps

otherwise standing in dangerous (frequented/loot heavy) or open areas:

you're asking for a bullet and deserve a swift death.

Vast majority of my player-caused deaths are me running across a field/road/open space and BAM. You are dead.

Not sure it's really a coward's tactic (nobody really wants to get shot at), but I sure would like to at least see my enemy before he gets me.

"Is stalking a cowards technique?" asked the zebra.

"Of course it is!" the wildebeest answered "Only noobs camp water holes hiding inside bushes."

No, it isn't just you.  There's not much skill or honor in lying in hiding on a hill and picking off unarmed bambis, for example.  But then again, who said life was fair?  The unskilled dishonorable are as free as the rest of us to play dayz.

Says who the Bambi is not to be shot? Many a time the Bamby is a bandit you just killed, killed you and your friends, etc .... going back to the bodies... The Bamby argument is not valid imo.

"Unskilled dishonorable"? What is this, feudal Japan?

It always amazes me when people attach some vague, ill-defined notion of honor to a video game, and then speak down on others who don't adhere to these unwritten rules as strictly as they do.
