hotcakes 348 Posted August 5, 2014 I'll only agree with axes decaying too quickly. Everything else is fine.
applejaxc 2500 Posted August 5, 2014 ...have you ever had hit a human in the head with a wood-handled iron-headed hatchet you found in some poor farmer dude's shed before? It'd be amazing if the head of the axe was still on the stick after a week.

gibonez 3633 Posted August 5, 2014 It's a video game. Just like hunger some things need to be extremely exaggerated due to the time constraints of a players in game life. What fun would it be if you only needed to eat once and were good for the next week.
boneboys 7988 Posted August 5, 2014 I sharpen my axe on a regular basis. The means are there, why don't you use them ?
Caboose187 (DayZ) 3036 Posted August 5, 2014 I sharpen my axe on a regular basis. The means are there, why don't you use them ?That's an obvious answer.... players don't want to use them, they want it handed to them.
Deathlove 2286 Posted August 5, 2014 I think with things like chest damage to shirts with infected it can be a little much. You can have a full pristine shirt and when one attacks you it can go down to ruined fast. Idk hopefully a few of the item variables for damage get adjusted. Katana67 2907 Posted August 5, 2014 I'd agree that things need to decay gradually, rather than the method we've got now "Oh, someone's doing X, take Y% away from item Z, NOW!" If you use your axe more often, it should decay at an increased rate over time. Not on the spot, all at once. Same thing goes for clothing items. The only things that I think should cause instant damage to clothing items are gunshots. Even zombie attacks are a bit much, but, they need to be a factor in a gradual decay. Not just "Welp, my jacket went from Pristine to Ruined in a split second."
Acher0n 39 Posted August 5, 2014 I remember the last time someone punched me. My jacket and pants were ruined and i had to buy more.
Sirwarriant12 94 Posted August 5, 2014 I think everything is fine for the most part aside from how fast zeds ruin shirts, especially military gear thats build pretty damn tuff.
hombrecz 832 Posted August 5, 2014 I sharpen my axe on a regular basis. The means are there, why don't you use them ? True, you can carry a stone and sharpen axe from badly damaged to damaged. Wonder why not up to worn?
pillock 850 Posted August 5, 2014 Yeah, but chopping down trees? An axe goes to ruined about 5 trees in DayZ.I actually think it should take much, much longer to cut down trees, and damage the axe more than it does. It should also be really noisy, and when stamina is a thing it should completely tire out your character. Cutting down a substantial tree with an axe is fucking knackering. True, you can carry a stone and sharpen axe from badly damaged to damaged. Wonder why not up to worn? Perhaps later they will introduce dedicated whetstones to sharpen your axes/knives to better levels? That would balance well with standard 'stones' only giving a minor benefit.
King Raptor 191 Posted August 5, 2014 Shit doesn't just get busted up after a day or a week I mean c'mon man. Srsly? What "shit"?The only thing that wears down is your axe when you chop trees. And your equipment when you get shot. The latter is a bit excessive most of the time, obviously pants with a hole in 'm aren't going to be "ruined" and the blood can be washed out. Well, mostly. Remember: soak in warm water! cels 43 Posted August 5, 2014 (edited) Be happy they havent added deterioration to footwear yet that youre running around with 2 or 3 extra pairs constantly =pIn anycase, it seems developers usually lean towards a extreme before really making something more balanced. Im sure the rate of deterioration will change alot moreso in beta to what feels more right for the game. Edited August 5, 2014 by cels

That way finding new ones would be of some concern.Hard to set the proper pace of deterioration though.

Also having footwear that is ruined will make you slower. Same with not wearing shoes at all. I agree, im sure its going to take quite a bit to figure out exactly how much running, walking, puts its toll on the wear. Same with environment(wet, snow, etc.) Edited August 5, 2014 by cels

What fun would it be if you only needed to eat once and were good for the next week. I think just as fun. Because now you can lower the food supply without adding to the frustration of players, So now when they find their first can of food 3 towns in, they jump for joy because they know their good for a while. Currenty, that joy is lost as you know that all it means is; Oh great, now I gotta do it again. I actually think it's pretty bad in it's current state to have players sitting in the corner of a house stuffing their face with 3 consecutive cans of the Chef only to find out that they're still hungry. Throw in a can of sardines and some beans, still hungry. I'm all for bringing in realistic food consumption. It would even give use to the ability to eat portions of the can, just enough to keep you going.

Throw in a can of sardines and some beans, still hungry. I'm all for bringing in realistic food consumption. It would even give use to the ability to eat portions of the can, just enough to keep you going.Well we already have kind of a portion eating system in game. If you didn't notice there is "EAT" which only eats a small percentage of food than there is "Eat ALL" which basically has you devouring the entire can. But i think the portions for hunger satisfaction need to be adjusted as you are right. You should be able to ration your food over long periods of time for survival and not be hungry and starving so fast from eating a small amount. The hunger deterioration system needs to decay at a slower rate per say. And i think the more you run the faster you should burn carbs making you hungry. As long as you just jog or walk at a normal pace the hunger lvls should rise much much slower. They plan on making canned foods MUCH MUCH more scarce and its very evident in .48. Food and items are much harder to find at times in that patch. So i think to balance that sense of survival the hunger system needs to be tweaked and adjusted a tad. KingOfTime 267 Posted August 5, 2014 As someone who has felled multiple trees via axe, if you tried to cut down 4 trees without sharpening the axe head in between each one, you would be very very sad...
Whyherro123 2283 Posted August 5, 2014 As someone who has felled multiple trees via axe, if you tried to cut down 4 trees without sharpening the axe head in between each one, you would be very very sad...Damn straight. Not even including the fact that the types of axes in Day Z aren't even for felling trees. We have a Splitting axe (for splitting logs, with a wide head profile and blunt-ish edge) and a Firefighter's Axe (again, not for chopping trees). For the most "bang for your buck" when felling, use a dedicated "Hewing Axe", with a much longer and thinner head profile for cutting wood fibers.
omgwtfbbq (DayZ) 1069 Posted August 5, 2014 I sharpen my axe on a regular basis. The means are there, why don't you use them ? The problem is that I can only sharpen my axe when it's ruined or badly damaged, and it'll only go up to damaged. Why can't I just repeat the action over and over until it's pristine?
