Apom 13 Posted August 2, 2014 (edited) Yes please. Might as well put in a ninja outfit as well.. Can be looted from a costume store. Actually a costume store spawning crazy outfits would rock. Imagine being robbed by "The Presidents". =) Edited August 2, 2014 by Apom
tootights (DayZ) 26 Posted August 2, 2014 Rock? Yes, we should be able to pick up a rock and throw it. If I roll a natural 20, you're knocked unconscious.

Bororm 1156 Posted August 2, 2014 As silly as it might be, I'd like some sort of sword just for fun. Make them really rare or something. Would rather see some sort of broadsword/european sword or such spawning as a really rare thing in castles. In the context of the castles basically being museums currently, it could make sense if still far fetched. I think there's room for "fun" items in DayZ, we already got stupid stuff like payday masks. As long as they don't go overboard with it.

Avant-Garde 229 Posted August 2, 2014 (edited) Katana? Such a pansie weapon. I'd rather have this http://media.liveauctiongroup.net/i/15911/15828518_1.jpg?v=8CFF42A9710E580 or even this http://www.medievalcollectibles.com/images/Product/large/XD637.png As a rare item and best melee weapon. But craftable spears would also be nice. Edited August 2, 2014 by Avant-Garde

Deathlove 2286 Posted August 2, 2014 I wouldn't mind a katana but they need to make sure the melee system is working all the way with the current weapons we have first. You have to remember even though it is a part of Russia there are many weapons from both Eastern Europe and i imagine parts of Asia that could potentially end up there. They probably wouldn't would not be as persistent but they should have a small presence regardless.

Seriously though a katana is a better choice of a weapon than a halberd youd have to consider all possibilities and situations you might be in with the damn thing. Youd be better off with anything but long stick based weapons for anything not related to outdoors or castle warfare.
alldaypk 63 Posted August 2, 2014 Katana UpsidesLong sweeping blade yet lightwieghtRazor sharp edge (if maintained properly) that's designed for soft targets and light armourSmall, simple hand-guard that's out of the wayUltra style points for expert skillBut tbh, a broadsword or large 'Book of Eli' machete would win if badass points were a defining aspect. DownsidesIneffective in corridors or closed spacesFragile compared to a broadsword or a macheteDifficult to maintainRequires skill for maximum efficiencyIf I had a choice of any melee weapon in the world, it would probably be a stainless steel Tomahawk with a longish handle and lanyard because it would require little skill, double as a tool and be easy to maintain. A longer handle would put more distance between me and a zed but without compromising maneuverability and the lanyard would prevent me from dropping it when I inevitably fall on my back whilst fighting off a horde. In a corridor I have the advantage because of the long range stab, just poke them in the brain lol. I mean, I would avoid at all costs geting closer to something that might infect me with its touch, a katana would be shit in this sense because you are at facehug range, there would be zombie blood all over you and the risk of contamination would be high! Plus, if a horde is running after you, chances are you are dead either with a katana, halberd or even with a firearm. So I still prefer the halberd due its long range, even better for steath killing zombies and it would be scarry to be chased by a crazy man with a huge polearm, so bonus points for that. AlphaDogMeat . 493 Posted August 2, 2014 The English billhook - when you absolutely, positively have to kill every melon farmer in the room/field/milbase. Accept no substitute. Forget mincy little katanas; you need edge, weight and manoeuvrability. Plus it's lore-safe in an agrarian countryside. I may need to double-post just to fit in all the win.

BeefBacon 1185 Posted August 3, 2014 The castles just look run down and disused, not like they're being museums. And even then, anything valuable from them would've been looted a long time ago. You could make the same argument about military bases. In the event of a zombie apocalypse I'd be more interested in barracks than in castles. Display cases showing off armours and medieval weapons and such would be really neat. Hopefully there'll be a dedicated museum building in future, but it definitely makes sense to have a museum area in at least one of the castles that has a small chance to spawn, say, a sword, and even bows and arrows. Could even be an excuse to include chainmail as a rare armour (albeit considerably less effective than contemporary armour and completely lacking in storage capacity). That'd give a location-friendly reason to visit the castles besides the view and (future) barricading... or if you really, really can't find a hat or a pair of wellington boots.

Oh, I meant long before the apocalypse even happened. Now, if they wanted to change the castles and make them into museums or possibly build a museum that holds medieval artifacts, that would be cool (In fact I like the idea of specific items limited to very specific locations, instead of just general types or buildings). Just like with the flare gun they're eventually going to add, I hope that is mainly only found at the ship, with a few spawns at military buildings and police stations.
