Poll - Why aren't people playing hardcore mode

Recommended Posts

I play 1pp because there's a bit more tension, it's a little creepier, kinda claustrophobic feeling (to me anyway) not all but some of the main reasons I like 1pp

and I never seem to have trouble finding a 30+ hc server... day or night.

I play 3pp when I'm in a 'don't give a damn just gonna play for fun' mode. also when I'm with a group of friends. it IS easier to keep track of your surroundings in 3pp. no one is denying that I don't think? and yes they can look at you over walls in safety. but so can you. they can hide around a corner and angle the camera to see you coming.. but so can you. like I said do you blindly run around corners, down hallways or through doorways? or do you use some tactics and scope it out (or 3pp the corner yourself, whichever flavor you chose)?

if I have a periscope that allows me to see over walls and you do as well.. where is the unfairness? if you have a magic mirror that let's you see around corners and I do as well.. where's the handicap? just because you chose not to use the tools everyone has equal access to or you ran Forrest Gump around the corner and you lost your gear because of it.. that doesn't make it unfair or unbalanced. it's ok to admit when you're wrong, I'll do it and have done it more than a few times lol but your forum warrior e-peen has no value in the real world so there's no shame in sayin "yeah you're right.. why was I crying about this in the first place??"

speaking of real life.. why the fuck would you be "scared irl."? I don't think I threatened you did I? do you have some real life paranoia issues? if so I do honestly apologize for giving you a scare....

or did I ruffle your feathers with something I said, make you feel insecure and you wanted to toss out a snarky little comment? :)

to your edit question.., IF IF IF I go into an airfield (alone) I always assume there's a peeker up there and camp out a good while and watch., then if I think it's clear I run in. and if I'm right then I'm alive.. if I was wrong and a peeker gets me (which has and still does happen) well.. tough shit for me lol but you won't hear me complain that it's unfair

3pp is more to my liking

I agree with GRick 100% What he says is true IMO

However, I remember something from BI quite a while ago, where they explained an aspect of 3pp, and why 3pp was incorporated

As a human being, at the moment I'm sitting in front of my pc, I have a horizontal field of view that includes about 160° (maybe a bit more).

If I put my arms straight out sideways from my shoulders, and look in front of me, without turning my eyes I can - just about - see the fingertips of each hand at the same time when I move them.

Try it: so everything from far left to far right I can notice and react to in real life.

But in 1pp (in the game) I have a field of view considerably less than half of that. I see what is on the screen, but from side to side the screen does not stretch all the way across in front of me. Nowhere near. It only shows a small part of my real human field of view.

Similar for vertical view - but less, and it's usually less important.

So to deal with this  - for players who wanted to have more realistic situational awareness - BI included the option to pull the viewpoint back somewhat, so you see your avatar in front of you. Now your field of view corresponds better to what you can see if you are really in the field.

But it is only an approximate imitation of the human field of view, still - better than nothing ? I understand that this was one of their considerations.

This is why players say they feel claustrophobic in 1pp - they are right, they can't see a lot compared to real life.

OK - just wanted to explain that.

But - GrimeyR is still completely right about 1pp and balance. Really depends what kind of game you want to play. Could claim that these are 2 different games, and the playstyle is different for each (not better or worse).

xx

I think if you removed 1pp ADS from regular (fallout 3 style), you'd see a hilarious number of people switch to HX servers.

You are passionate, I'll give you that....lol. And I can respect that.

We'll just have to agree to disagree. :)

Fair enough, good sir.

if you want to talk about unbalanced.. bring up teamspeak type of programs. when you can talk to your team or partner without using direct and screaming to everyone in hearing distance where you are and what you're doing

that is something that you can not deny that it gives your group an edge over the lone wolf or the 5 guys who just met up and don't have TS to use lol

just to be clear, I do use TS and I do play without it when I'm alone or with randoms...

seriously...you CAN NOT ARGUE with the fact that 3pp is unbalanced. IT IS. It just is. You're just making yourself look even more unable to be taken seriously by denying this simple fact. It's not a fact that is an ultimatum to the discussion of the differences of the perspectives, but vital in the understanding of it. There is an unbalance that exists in 3pp. That's all you have to understand. It's not hard lol..

3PP is just a different playstyle. It is not unbalanced just because you can see over walls. There are imbalances created by the third-person perspective but when I hear a particular game mode is "unbalanced" it suggests certain players have a constant advantage over others. In DayZ players are offered completely symmetrical opportunities. In Regular mode everyone has the same opportunity to use 3PP mode. A person intentionally running around in 1PP mode will be placed at a scouting disadvantage but this is a part of the game. Nothing says that a player cannot switch to 3PP mode or alter his playing style to combat potential campers. AFAIK players cannot shoot through walls while looking around in 3PP mode either.

Even Hardcore mode has advantageous positioning. Ever hide inside a bush/tree or lie in the grass in 1PP thinking you are hidden only to find someone can easily see you from 50m away? That is a disadvantaged position as well but no one is saying "get rid of trees and grass".

I'm just sick of people saying Regular mode needs to be changed because it is fine. I also don't want that fourth wall crap with the disappearing players. It sucks seeing tanks just appear from nowhere in WoT and it would suck in DayZ. Talk about an immersion killer...

Perhaps some tweaking can be done to the 3PP camera but, honestly, I don't want the devs focusing on this when there are really important game mechanics that are yet to be implemented. This is, of course, my opinion but I do believe it is a valid one.

maybe hardcore players are naturally blinkered, so they don't mind having such a limited point of view in the game ?

I say this with the greatest compassion and sympathy for my fellow players, both on Normal and Abnormal servers,

and hope I will not be misunderstood

...okay...and? What's you're point? That's nothing that the Devs can control, and is outside of the game.

Please stop trying to counter argue that 3pp is "balanced". Just....please...

Holy shit we're not trying to say it needs to be changed...

And what "tweaking" with the 3pp camera will stop the imbalance of corner peaking and seeing over walls? Seriously. What, are they going to do a "Fog of war" or something depending on your 1pp camera? Yeah I'm sure that's going to happen never lol.

Awesome. Then we are in agreement on something.

Changing the viewpoint to a more "over-the-shoulder" one would decrease the ability for people to see over objects a bit while still giving situational awareness (e.g. being able to tell if you are really hidden in a bush/tree).

Ah, I remember the epic 109 pager of August 2013, the biggest of a large selection of identical threads on a rather moot argument now that HC mode is a thing. This fierce and pointless conflict reappears periodically like Brigadoon and the same views and arguments clash harmlessly against each other with the end result of lots of angry forumers. The real point here is that DayZ is a game to be enjoyed by players in the way they prefer most, that includes 1st or 3rd person - two different viewpoints neither more valid than the other in this video game.

People do love to argue on internet forums though, so as you were.

well technically because of the disparity of the low-quality graphics and high-quality graphics settings, you will never really be safe hiding in either. However, I don't think I have ever had an issue with telling whether or not a tree or bush will conceal me...I mean I think we've all played regular enough to know when we're concealed in a bush, and how to hide in a pine tree.

Idk I can't really relate to the whole situational awareness thing because I personally have never had a problem with it, so I can't really comment on that. However, I don't see them implementing any change in the 3pp camera mode that will "improve it". It's always going to create imbalances in combat scenarios and won't ever exist without such imbalances, ever. Because most of the kids gotta have their corner peaks and "wall hax". I'm all for making 3pp like fallout 3 style 3pp and removing 1pp. Because I mean everyone in regular is all about 3pp, so leave 3pp in regular, and 1pp in hardcore. simple as that

Yes, discourse, debate, discussion, and argument are all BAD! BAD!!!!

love it

I play almost exclusively on hardcore servers because I hate being 3PP exploited and FPP is more immersive for me. I don't have any issues finding a moderately populated hardcore server and TBH I'm glad not as many play it, especially the hackers. The reason I think it's called hardcore is not because of an increase difficulty but because it removes what I consider a horrible crutch mechanic with 3PP. The only times I play on a regular server is when I want to see how my character looks in certain animations or for cinematic video purposes. As far as the issue some have with it being labeled as "hardcore" personally I wished they would of named it "regular" and renamed regular mode as "easy" but then feelings or egos would get hurt and we can't have that.

You're not right, you're an ignorant moron that doesn't understand basic game mechanics. I'm done being civil. I've outlined in my posts that I have no qualms with Regular. I play Regular. What I have an issue with is people claiming it's balanced. Just because both parties have the ability to wall peek doesn't make it balanced.

I've given multiple examples of actual scenarios that depict my points. You've given unbroken walls of text that label people as elitists for calling Regular imbalanced as well as delusional vitriol pertaining to Regular being balanced since both people have access to the same camera angles. It's simply not true.

Your answer regarding the sniper at the airfield is also invalid as he never has to peek, so you're not going to know he's there. You can't gain any information as to his presence without risking your life. No one should have a 100% advantage over another player in any situation. That is NOT balance. Having the high ground is one thing, but having positional superiority without risking anything is stupid, ESPECIALLY in a game where you die and lose all your stuff.

So, to recap:

1) The argument of Regular being balanced is laughable.

2) I am not telling people which mode to play; I play both.

3) You're not "getting to me." This debate has been beaten to death and is frustrating as fuck.

4) Only girls use passive-aggressive smilies. I'd refrain in the future, unless your name is Lyndsay and you're a controlling girlfriend.

Finally, all of this was typed on my phone. If there are typos, fuck them.
