How is hardcore mode different?

Recommended Posts

I've never really dabbled in it, what are the differences besides being restricted to first person.

Less food, ammo, health? Everything?

You can actually ambush people from behind.

Looking around on hardcore is very tiresome process and looking behind you takes extra effort so many people don't do it.

Hardcore is just regular without 3pp .

That being said the removal of 3pp improves the game dramatically, stealth is a viable option now against players, player encounters are alot more dynamic and you no longer have people camping prone on rooftops.

There are a whole lot more oooo shit moments in hardcore those special moments when 2 players see each other for the first time.

You're more likely to encounter people on regular servers though since when in town you can see over fences and across streets you shouldn't be able to. But, once you do see someone, the engagement will be much more fulfilling.

Never use backpacks that impede rear visibility. Get your field of vision right with the weapon sighting system, i believe just to the right of the D in Field is spot on. Be more patient and scout towns and mil areas more thouroughly, be more aware of your surroundings and always check your six.

This gif both represents HARDCORE and also what its like to play on non-hardcore dayz servers.. say like what you would expect in Berezino these days. ;)

Hmm, I'm not really seeing the appeal then.

I like my godly third person vision since I can't hear people run up behind me, until that's fixed hardcore is off my menu.

Yeah. F* hardcore. I had to stop because of that too, one more sneak zombie attack from behind and I would die from heart attack.

Also character breathing and running sounds gets too loud after ~1hour of playing

Yeah zombies are the worst at least with people it's just *gunshot* "you are dead" oh well somebody killed be but with a zombie the screen flashes, they usually fly through you after jumping and then they're making their weird squeals. Fucking horrible...

I don't get why they'd have hardcore in the game so early when the only difference really is first person view...

I dont get it. How come seeing someone behind walls will make the engagement _much_ more fulfilling?

What I dont get why they added the chance for 3rd person view in the first place, if realism is what they are after.

First person is hardly realistic either, my vision isn't limited to some rectangular box with first person you can't see something running at you from the side where real people would have the peripherals(if they didn't just hear) to see movement in the corner of their eye.

Looking over fences and stuff isn't realistic but you get the semi-realistic FOV with it not a tiny box.

First person games are like if you cut a rectangle in a cardboard box and put it over your head.

What we need is Oculus/Morpheus support...

That's not a fault of the game.. that's a issue with current gen tech. You can simulate peripheral vision with a multi-monitor setup.

Also there is a Arma command if you're having issues with sounds not playing I believe it's shift numpad - then you type flush. It restores the sound and you're able to hear zombies or gunshots you otherwise would not be able to due to the wonkyness.

True, but still I dont get why there has to be choice between the two

For me HC still gives me better feel of realism because of those reason you mentioned. You see less, whether its realistic or not it makes it harder for every one, doesnt matter if you play bandit or you just want to survive with your knife.

Sometimes it even makes you more cautious and thus more aware of your surroundings.

3rd person is a crutch. The FOV argument is a pile of shite, it barely changes. You get to see everything without exposing yourself. That is the only reason and you know it. If you're going to use the crutch, at least man up and admit that you use it cause you like being able to see things without exposing yourself.

Oh shut up it's no more difficult than first person, first person is just annoying because the game isn't set up properly stop trying to act like first person makes you a better player.

The FOV does change a lot it removes the rectangular view and gives you a proper view of above, below, left and right. And you can see things standing right next to you which in first person you can't anyone could walk right up next to you and you'd have no clue until you turned round, it's ridiculous.

It might be "better" in the sense that it makes it harder but no way is it realistic or good I don't have a cardboard box round my head with a rectangle cut out for me to see through so I don't want that in my game thank you.

You just can't say it, can you? When I go to the Battlefield or CoD forums, I don't see a single person bitching about the first person view. Not a single post about how the game should have a 3rd person view option. The point is you are given the option to use a security blanket or not to. You choose to use the security blanket. Way to go, Linus.
