Different shoes should be good for different things

Recommended Posts

If different shoes did different things, that would make the game more challenging and realistic. I have a few ideas for this.

Idea #1

Hiking boots=  You run faster in the forest or fields than any other type of shoe in the game, but you run slower on roads

Combat boots= You run at a decent speed everywhere

Athletic shoes= You run decently fast on roads, but in forests and fields, you run slower than you would with hiking boots and your shoes get worn out faster.

Jogging shoes- You run faster on roads than any other type of shoe in the game, but if you run in forests and fields your shoes get worn out faster and you run slower.

Idea #2

Your feet should get sore if you use a shoe in the wrong way. For example:

If you are using athletic shoes for running in a forest or a field for an extended amount of time, your feet will get sore and your character will start to run slower and maybe you will have to eventually stop running and take your shoes off so they can rest for a bit.

I think this idea would benefit to the games realistic aspect. Tell me what you think you guys. :D

i think all clothing  and foot wear types should offer different levels of protection and maneuverability, i do expect that this will arrive in game too, although i havent seen anything about it myself.

im not 100% about athletic or casual shoe wearing out faster in woods etc, but i agree with your general idea of different properties sure

Yes, different shoes for different things. Right now it's just "better shoe" vs "worse shoe". There's no reason to wear athletic shoes or low hiking boots if you can find a pair of wellies.

It goes like this, by the way:

Best: Wellies
Better: Hiking boots, Jungle boots, Military boots, Combat boots
Average: Low hiking boots, Working boots
Worse: Jogging shoes, Leather shoes
Worst: Athletic shoes

You'd think combat boots would be the best since wellies are super uncomfortable (or at least my experience with them has been.)

Personally I never take wellies.

Reasons are that pants do not go inside of them, plus I dislike wellies in real life and can't image jogging in them.

I always end up with either combat boots or military boots.

Btw I would like, if we could fix badly damaged boots to damaged status, by using duct tape on them.

Great idea and you can have my beans, but what about sound?

I think that different shoes should have different sounds and different levels of volume.

From loud to quiet:

Combat Boots

Hiking shoes

Leather Shoes

Wellies

Athletic, Jogging shoes

Actually combat boots are often designed to be as silent as possible, especially on hard surfaces like concrete or asphalt.

How do these "better", and "worse" shoes actually effect you?

I know that this is going to get some 'realism hate', but how about shoe sizes? If running in the shoes two sizes small slowed you down in the long run until you started to limp then shoes which were the correct size would become more desirable.

For men I am guessing the size would be a random choice between 7 and 11, whereas women would be between 5 and 8.

This would add more realism, and make looting less easy than it is now, but I realize that this sort of thing is a bit much for some people...

Except for the crappy athletic shoes, all shoes are the same durability so the only difference is absorbency, which is probably how well they resist water/weather damage. Don't think it does much at the moment.

The way I see it, Shoes should have different effects.

In all they should have qualities on:

  • Sound

All Shoes all make different sounds depending on what material the player walks and runs on, Working boots which are designed for protection of the feet would most likely be the loudest in this regard due to steel toe cap and sole protection, Wellies would likely follow in tow due to their bulky nature while shoes such as Atheletic and Jogging Shoes are the quietest.

An example of loudest to quietest (Colour coded from Red to Green):

  • Working Boots
  • Wellies
  • Leather Shoes
  • Combat Boots
  • Hiking Boots
  • Jungle Boots
  • Military Boots
  • Low Hiking Boots
  • Atheletic Shoes
  • Jogging Shoes

  • Speed

Some shoes benefit the players movement across terrain. Athletic shoes would offer a below average balance, while Hiking Boots and Military style boots offer the best movement across terrain. In some instances, your footwear could increase your speed by a small percentage depending on how much gear you carried.

  • Comfort

Pretty much a given, most shoes should be comfortable to wear, Wellies are going to be the most uncomfortable over long periods of time. At most you'd want to wear 'em for a few hours, not several days. Atheletic shoes are going to be comfortable, same with Jogging shoes but that only depends on how long you keep them out of the water.

  • Absorption/Resistance

All shoes have a maximum water tolerance, this determines how much water they can absorb/resist before your feet get "wet". Naturally, stuff like Wellies is going to be completely water resistant while Jogging shoes will absorb water like no other.

  • Protection

Some shoes offer a degree of Protection against the feet, Military Boots, Combat Boots and Jungle Boots all offer a sizable protection, some could even be Kevlar lined to reduce the damage of shrapnel impacts to the feet or small caliber projectiles, some boots like Working Boots offer a high value of protection with their steel toe cap and sole while Athletic shoes offer virtually no protection at all

  • Warmth

A minor element with shoes but some shoes should provide warmth.
