levaus 3 Posted June 18, 2014 Just playing again today and got lost between two towns(I have a tendency to wander into the woods) I spent the better part of an hour running straight under what appeared to be a cloudless, bright and sunny day. Now I would imagine that game time elapses slightly faster than normal time so that must have been a heck of a hike through an open grassy field for the most part. Will sun play a factor into this survival game? I know that without proper clothing sunburns can get sever enough to incapacitate you, leave you with blisters and a high risk of getting infections if you don't have any medical equipment to clean it with. You could also wear long clothing and a boonie to prevent this burn. Sun screen and aloe or burn treatment could be applied to the game.(sun screen and aloe could even be fairly common. i know most adults with children are guaranteed to have it.) I certainly think it would make hikes between towns much more interesting or if you plan to play as a wilderness survivor/hunter it will add another dimension of survival that is rudimentary but very real.
freethink 984 Posted June 18, 2014 sun stroke would be good imo

freethink 984 Posted June 18, 2014 This isn't a real-life simulator, it's an mmo. Well we're obviously moving towards weather conditions affecting players. I don't see why a hat can't protect you from the sun as well as the rain.
Jex 1104 Posted June 18, 2014 No! Are you joking where in the hell on Cherno can't you find a tree for an hour???
tobias winfro 305 Posted June 18, 2014 Sunburns only effect gingers, hehe such wonderful people they are with their fair skin and lack of a soul.
Evil Minion 943 Posted June 18, 2014 Stop spreading your propaganda! No human has a soul. I think its enough if sunlight would increase your temperature depending on your clothes (faster when wearing warm clothes/helmets, slower when wearing sun protection like a baseball cap). Might be positive if you are cold or wet but negative (dehydration, sweating etc.) if you are already warm.
Pvt_Larry (DayZ) 98 Posted June 18, 2014 I don't mind heat exhaustion or heat stroke if you're out running too much in direct sun, but sunburns would just be annoying imo, I don't put on sunscreen every time I head outside and I'm ok.
tobias winfro 305 Posted June 19, 2014 (edited) I'm not really sure if it can ever stop raining long enough in Dayz to ever actually get sun burn or heat stroke. Maybe it was just experimental .45 but it was rarely ever sunny for very long, whenever I was on Edited June 19, 2014 by Tobias Winfro

I'm talking about being in the beating sun of an open field for hours upon hours without something like a long sleeve shirt or a boonie cap.

Maybe it was just experimental .45 but it was rarely ever sunny for very long, whenever I was onI would be very satisfied with something like heat stroke. It represents a very real threat of the sun and isn't idealized as just an uncomfortable nuisance by everyone due to its frequency.
karlkurtz32 59 Posted June 19, 2014 This is too much thought. Soon the game won't even be fun to play.
Khanarac 252 Posted June 19, 2014 It's autumn in chernarus. People don't get sunstrokes in autumn. Never noticed how often your breath is visible? It's fucking cold outside in Chernarus.
liquidsnake 275 Posted June 19, 2014 Nah, before you know it, everyone in Chernarus would be black to circumvent getting a sunburn :D
stielhandgranate 480 Posted June 19, 2014 I could see hydration being a factor when exposed to the sunlight in later builds.

levaus 3 Posted June 20, 2014 It was merely something I thought of in the game and I feel like the ideas are relevant to the game.

UltimateGentleman 355 Posted June 21, 2014 I think this would suck honestly, there's no need to make it harsher than real life it's already in what looks to be a very cold terrain so the heat getting to you would be annoying. Especially since it rains all the time and takes like 10 seconds before you're soaked, which will probably give you a cold damn quick when they add that. Then you add in sun stroke or whatever and going outside just becomes a chore, rain is bad enough what are you supposed to do? Sometimes it rains for like half an hour. I'm not interested in playing a game where I have to sit in an empty house for ages, I'm already doing that in real life  I think the only weather effect we should have is getting the cold from rain or even snow if we don't have warm gear on, throwing sun problems in to the mix would just be annoying.Unless they had seasons so for summer you wear light thin clothes and as winter approaches you desperately need to find a thick coat, that could be cool so long as seasons were global no "always summer" servers.

degude 133 Posted June 21, 2014 The sun burn system wouldn't work quite well, because the darker the skin is, the less probable it is to get a sun burn, which would make everyone chose the darkest skin colour available. If skin colour wouldn't affect that, it wouldn't be realistic. A black guy in this area would never get a sun burn. Maybe it could rather be a "heat-system", so if you're running a lot in the sun and wear warm cloths (like a down jacket), a message could appear "I'm feeling warm/hot/etc." (like "I'm getting wet").I think the dicciculty here would be for the engine to determine whether you are standing in the sun or not. theevancat 94 Posted June 22, 2014 Can I choose my character race to be Irish and turn neon red after five minutes in mild sun?
Damnyourdeadman 1045 Posted June 22, 2014 No,the only thing high temperatures should take a toll on is your fatigue (stamina) energy and hydration depletion rate.We can simulate, the disadvantages of running a marathon in the blazing heat, but having sun strokes is kind of an unnecassary evil.
