Make mics a requirement.

Recommended Posts

You're part of the problem then. People who just KOS and don't say anything. Why? You're literally the worst sort of player to play DayZ.

now yer talkin out yer arse mate

you made a silly thread now you are trying to defend yer position by saying nonsense.

The players we all wish would go away are those who talk shit and troll not the ones who quietly go about their business. Why would warning yer victim in direct chat before the coup de grace make em any better? just makes em less likely to succeed. Stealth killing is an art form and one I practice meself like.

Guy wants to kill yer, fine its a legit facet of the game, chooses not to troll yer after, keeps his own counsel, quietly loots an moves on? he has my respect

the worse players in dayz are 12 year old rage kiddies and you sound like one of them to me

We shouldn't force people to do ANYTHING.

Pretty much this.

I dont wanna talk to my computer at 4 am that i can play DayZ.

And if my headset breaks, cant play until i buy new one?

The only thing you'd need to do is say DayZ. Literally 4 words.

Put down the alcohol and step away from the keyboard..

How about they just mirror all communication done via mic in game.

Reason most players are quiet in game is due to them using teamspeak or mumble.

Mirroring voice coms fixes this.

No i kill you because you ran in on me. im in a vulnerable situation and you're a THREAT to my SURVIVAL.

as far as im concerned the ultimate goal is to stay alive for one more day- not to make friends with johnny randomperson. Im not going to give you a chance to axe me in the face, or get close, or decide what your options are. im going for a headshot and taking your gear. k thnx bye. if your not in teamspeak i care more about what's on your body then what you have to say.

That's just your poor excuse for refusing to talk in game and shooting on sight.

So, by your own admission, you just want to force people to HAVE mics to start the game, even though there is no requirement to actually use them in game, but your main point is that forcing them to use mics will force more peaceful player interactions?  I'm confidant when I say this that this will never happen, not for a DayZ.  Rocket has said many times they will not force/punish one playstyle over another, I don't imagine they're gonna say, 'but everyone needs a mic to play.'  Some private servers may require you to be on their VOIP server in order to play, but this is just a useless hoop to jump through for a PRIVATE server..  You might as well have a morality quiz or some sort of age verification, both of which can be by passed, and I'm sure the 'mic requirement' you want could be bypassed as well with some combination of free software and a sound file.

Privacy concerns aside, imagine how annoying it would be.  I know I cringed when I used to play BF3 and would just hear breathing and background noises from someone's mic set to transmit.  Yeah, I really wanna hear your parents talking in German about the grocery list they're making in the next room, or your dogs barking.

Before you make assumptions and an insult to try and back up your point: yes, I do have a mic, yes it's plugged in.  I simply don't talk.  I'm a loner in Chenarus.  If I see someone and they don't see me, I want to keep it that way, I'm gonna quietly sneak away.  I don't want the sound of my AC turning on, or my dogs going berserk every time a Jehovah comes to my gate to give away my position.  Someone runs up to me shouting 'friendly', I reply simply with, "Stay back", if the rifle pointed at their face as they drew closer wasn't enough of a hint.

lol.

I guess you recently got KOS'd.

Im actually one of the few people who will leave a unarmed bambi alone rater then anounce my posiiton with gunfire if given the chance. someone who runs into a house im looting with an axe out on the other hand, i dont care. i dont want to respawn, i dont want to team with you, i dont care what your story is. i have the guys in teamspeak im working with.

I play smart, I play for the end game, i play to stay alive. taking risks for randoms i dont know doesnt help me or my odds in any way. sor but i do care amore about the destination then the journey. oh well welcome to reality. not everyone here wants to roleplay.

ITS NOT ABOUT FUCKING ROLEPLAY!!!! Maybe if you for once used a mic to talk in game instead of being so fucking stubborn and kill count hungry, you'd realize theres more to the player interactions than "your bullets -->> their hitbox".

I see you entirely missed the part where Id rather avoid making a bunch of noise with gunfire. okay continue accusing people of being CoD players, going after kill counts, and what ever other nonsence.

Im not kill count hungy by any means. i do want to stay alive. DON'T DIE = OBJECTIVE NUMBER 1

apparently someone missed the fact that this was a SURVIVAL game, which implies that SURVIVING takes absolute presedence. stop trying to force others to play your way. you want to run up to random people you dont know and talk to them about the weather go for it. i'll quitely gater my loot and defend myself as i see fit. k? k!

Oh I'm not?  Seriously?  Shit I thought my paycheck was dependent upon playing a game I enjoy.  Guess I'll go do something else now.  Maybe I should get my Hunting License laminated, I've been meaning to do that for a while now.

You're quick to talk about choice, and just as quick to want to take away that choice.  If I don't want to connect a mic and do some useless voice command to play a game I WANT to play, and otherwise can't play it till I do that thing I don't want to do that wasn't required before, it's NOT a choice.

*EDIT*

Expanding on choice:  I mentioned earlier about some private hives requiring you to be on their TS.  THAT is a choice, I can CHOOSE to play on that private hive and be on their TS as required, or I can CHOOSE to be on another server while still playing the same game I CHOSE to play.

Frost, surely you see that your idea isn't a very good one, but I understand you want to stick by it, especially since you made a thread dedicated to it. To me, it doesn't matter if I have a mic or not, I like to kill people. In fact, that is all that we have to do in this game. People talk about endgame and clans and social utopia, but DAYZ, as it exists now, is a PVP game. Sure, you can log onto experimental and build a fire in the woods, but back here in the rest of the world, we are testing a game in it's alpha state. This means testing everything. I'm covering the part dealing with shooting other players. You can keep testing the can openers and flashlights. Between us, we are going to get 'er done.

I suggest you disable all controller input, but the mic and all players will have to use voice commands only.

Right on for finding a work around but for 90 percent of players it would get them talking in game or atleast put players in teamspeak and mumble on the same playing field as non mumble and teamspeak people.

This is a very interesting idea actually...

What's up with that obsession to make ppl talk to you? It seems like a a common thing. On multiple ocassions when I was derping around in some city freshly after spawning I had some geared guys approaching me and starting a conversation. Then they would threat to shoot me if I don't talk back.

Thay even flip out when you calmly tell them to fck off and leave me alone. Or they just follow you and ask "why don't you talk with me?" Srsly, worse than jehovah's witnesses.

Do you just want to hear the voice of the guy you're about to shoot or do you seriously think that you will make friends by approaching random person and saying "hi"?

Hi Frost

The only way to force a play style is to force it upon oneself, not others.

Dayz as we all know it, is an open world sandbox. Nothing is forced upon the player except survive, and nor should it.

I completely understand your point Frost, but there is a reason why its recommended and not required.

I remember reading a thread here awhile back about a guy who couldn't talk in any online game. He had some jitter issues and genuinely could not talk on a mic. Yeah it might have sounded silly to you or the next guy and thought to yourself  "seriously, you are playing an online game?" but...

It was something he was seriously struggling to overcome and possibly could of been a serious condition he had battled with his whole life. Now imagine the amount of people across this vast world of ours with similar issues or without the funds or means.

Dayz does not cater to a particular play style or person. It was never intended to, nor will it be.

I just wish threads could contain more than just insults or snide remarks being thrown around, and the hate that follows! Too much narrow minded folk think that one way is the only way. I am as guilty as the next guy wanting it my way.

As much as I would love to see Hardcore only servers and mics locked in game with no external voip programs. It is purely just wishful thinking. Deep down I know Rocket is not going down this path, as he has stated many times.

It's just not going to happen unfortunately.

While I agree 100% that having mic for DayZ is the way to go, it would be simply stupid to block players without one.

And what about for players that either don't own a mic, or simply don't choose to use one, so that it doesn't compromise a part of their identity? (i.e, girl gamer who was previously harassed)

Also, people's who's economic situation doesn't allow for them to purchase mics, and DayZ in of itself is a blessing?

People like me, who generally support human privacy rights, and will stop playing DayZ all together if this is a requirement?

Sounds like you are pissed about something that you recently rage quit over.

What's the reasoning behind this suggestion?

these are all complete bs reasons . If they can afford day z they can afford a mic.

I kinda agree with OP but I wouldnt push it just due to some people possibly been deaf or not able to speak.

Again i look forward to future private servers where having a mic and other rules could be part of the servers own rule set

Not all people want to talk on DayZ, for me it would ruin the emersion. If I want to talk to people, I do it in the real world.

Also my girlfriend is usually in the room, blocking her out with a mic and headset would be anti social.

+ as said, there are deaf / mute people to consider.

IMO this would be taking things a bit too far. I would support the removal of text chat, but not forcing people to have a microphone before they could play the game.

No and i love voice comms but with the amount of asshole's running around in Dayz who wanna fuck ma mother or something of the like i rekon the fewer cunts wth ingame voice comms the better.
