Why did it take them so long to make this.

Recommended Posts

I Seriously do not understand how it took the team a little more then a year to only get this far with the game.  It has way less then the mod in it besides Buildings and new city's that they added in and clothes.  What they focused on that alone??   I would have pictured them being much further then they are currently. What Surprised me more is that zombies a AI that was working good in the mod  fails to work in the standalone.  I do see now once I got the game that it seems to take them 3 months just to put out a patch to update the game a little bit and it is a tiny patch.

I am slightly disappointed with this game knowingly buying it when its in alpha still I expected so much more then....well this.

I am also sad they No effort in performance went into this game within that time.  Arma 2 ran alright but it for some reason the frame rate depended completely on the server.  Id get 60 frames on one and 10 in another it made no sense to me.

This, the standalone is not exactly the same way but the performance is bad for my system. I mean being able to play a game like planetside 2 with all the people and moving things all over and getting 60 frames  to  walking around in a small 10 house town alone and getting 10 frames because the engine is not optimized at all.  I can not do any kind of PVP with that frame rate and I can not lower my graphics because the frames do not change at all.  I have an AMD fx 6300 OC 4.6 ghz.  the game is only using 10-20% of my cpu and thats sad.  It should be at 80% and if it was it would be running a lot better. My gpu is a 760 2 gb  II oc and then

I worry about performance most of all because after so long has gone by Arma 2 never got Optimized.  Arma 3 is also Badly optimized but runs better for me then DayZ stand alone however once again there is that weird thing with frames depend on the server and again I do not understand it.  So I am worried they the team will just shrug off doing the optimization and be lazy about it like they have been with all their other games.   As performance is what hurt the mod for me because I would play on a server and everything would be fine ( this was when i had a 4 core AMD and a 560 ti gpu)  and after i got all set up finally on the dayZ mod and got everythign the server would crap out and id go from 40-50 frames to like 8 frames and there is no reason for it.

Client side optimisation will come as the game moves into beta, at the end of the year, all being well.

I hate to say it but they havn't even begun to optimize the game that's the last step as I've read. they are rehauling the old engine and scrapping anything arma related. be glad they are taking there time it'll be better in the end patience is something I think you would learn from playin dayz but I guess not. and as for PVP fuck PVP do what some of us did and take a break if you get wrapped up in what it should be and what they should do you'll just become bitter and hateful not telling you to go away or anything but sometimes a break is well needed. try some zomboid etc go back to the mod that's what I did and its still badass and watch from afar and track progress on the forums either way I read shit tons of posts like this per day and its not going to speed the process up at all. good luck in game and have FUN.

DAYZ sa plans probobly fell thru a long time ago, but there was still interest so they did little work.

Eventually they noticed other games somehow thinking its acceptable to release a game thats 10% and call it alph aor beta

its nothign but a cash grab and go

Luckilly DayZ seems to have turned around for the better and is using some of that money to make a half decent game

yes i play dayz everyday

Why is dayz just now getting the amount of devs it needed at the very start (i.e dedicated teams for different areas; animals, ai, etc).

At least from the vague updates I have read thats how it sounds its like they cut the ribbon for a new mall, and just now adding in the stores a few months in.

TBH I notice this trend in f2p games (where we essentially give mmicro donations to kep the game updated with micro transactions).

But for a title that asked for 30 dollars at the get go for a game that didnt start getting the man power it needed till later, just gives me mixed reactions.

I can't tell if they brought in more people cause they could. Or cause they think they need to stay ahead of the f2p counterpart of their game, h1z1.

If its the latter, would they just have left dayz stay in its turtle speed state if h1z1 hadnt been on the horizon?

Well if the micro transactions are vanity items like what Path Of Exile has i see no issue with it as it is one of the much more successful and honest F2P game titles. I only payed like 15 for the access of that one and no more. Except when i wanted a cool pet or effect for a weapon.

What are you talking about, OP? Cauldron was acquired in March, H1Z1 was announced in April.

The release of the open alpha brought in the funding for extra devs. While the succes of the sales of the alpha most likely came as a surprise, it seems like it was a deliberate business strategy to get the funding needed for development.

Edit: This thread seems to have been merged with another. I just want to make clear that when I talk about OP I mean the OP of the second thread merged, which is the #5 post in this thread.

I have a computer that's worse than yours and I still hit 50 FPS on Medium in Cherno. TBH, I think the game is fine so far. It's definitely better than it was at the beginning.

$20 says that rust will release patch same day as dayz stable gets updated

When will the reboot be default?

When there’s more people playing reboot than default we’ll make it the default. We’ll put the reboot on another `archive` branch so you can keep playing it if you want to.

lol yeah ok gary

there IS so much I wanna see in this that I have seen other survival games have right off the bat.  Grouping systems would be nice so I do not mistake a friend for a foe and vise versa.  I think it would be kinda cool to have a train running on the tracks. Less military things.  I heard something about a nade launcher wat the hell ?  Really? Hell no  get that crap outta here.

there is a lot and i am not about to list it all.

My biggest 3 things though

Grouping system

Dsysnc fix

Better performance.

Performance I know has to come last.   I still worry about it though as i said in the post above. they have never optimized a single one of there games.

Oh i wanted to add.  for Arma 3 when I tested it in the free weekend they had recently.  I could not run Multiplayer on ultra even though I surpassed the settings, It did not matter how many people where on but it mattered what server i was on.   I wrote them and asked them why.  All they said was that it was Optimized and that All i needed to do was mess with the settings. BUT  I have it on low..

So again it kinda scares me and will piss me off if these guys to shit with performance. at the end before release.   I require at least 40 frames in the citys and That is asking a lot seeing how I had to overclock my CPU just to get 22 frames in Electro.    Some other locations smaller towns I get 10 fps and then random locations in the forest drop me down to 4  and idk its just stupid.   I know its alpha so I am waiting. I just needed to address my Concern over it.

Many many games take several years to develop. DayZ sa is coming along nicely considering the scope of the whole game.

...it seems to take them 3 months just to put out a patch to update the game...

Untrue...last stable patch was the 3 weeks and a couple of days more...

Last experiemntal patch was the 21th of may(1 week ago)

...its in alpha still I expected so much more then....well this.

Stop right there... theres your problem...you said it yourself...

...No effort in performance went into this game within that time...

Optimization comes in Beta...

I have an AMD fx 6300 OC 4.6 ghz.  the game is only using 10-20% of my cpu and thats sad.  It should be at 80% and if it was it would be running a lot better. My gpu is a 760 2 gb  II oc and then

Thats a nice pc(way better than mine) yet no optimization was made so...

RV is CPU-hungry and it performs better if you have a great single core perfomance(as far as i know), having multiple cores doesnt improve fps YET. AMD users have this problem BUT multicore support is coming...

So I am worried they the team will just shrug off doing the optimization and be lazy about it like they have been with all their other games.

Untrue again...BIS still optimizes/update ARMA 2 and ARMA 3...

Honestly I have no idea how the DayZ idea could possibly work in a Free2Play environment. What are you paying for with your micro transactions? Its a multiplayer open world game - which means everyone has a better experience if everyone has access to the same game elements. Cosmetics are meant to stand out - but here everyone should be able to do it. Gear? Would turn the game into "hunt down those premiums" or "pay to win" depending on whether you can loot premium gear or not.

I think the whole concept fares much better with the old "buy the game, get all of its features" approach. Free2Play (the real deal not those fake "pay to win" games) is more suited for games that consist of discrete short term sessions like DotA or CoD. Not sure how H1Z1 will be but there are good chances it will be vastly different because of the payment concept alone.
