Suicide Option?

Recommended Posts

Suicide shouldn't be faced with some mythical spawn point in no mans land or have some ridiculous spawn timer. It should simply ruin every item on your person.  I say this because it creates a new level of interaction.

"But Lithium everyone will just drop their items off before they suicide!"

You're right in a controlled setting they will. Bravo you outsmarted my master plan. However the next time you decide you want to chase me down or snipe me from afar for my gear you're really going to have to think long and hard about it. And hope you kill me before I do.  Maybe you'll even stand outside that door and ask me if I have anything worth robbing me for in that back pack.

I am sorry, I don't see how suicide would assist the takedown of an enemy. Killing yourself with a weapon is a sensible addition to the game as players will usually wish to avoid death. If you have a bad spawn, I suppose it breaks immersion a bit but you could pick through a small town in the hopes of finding something so humble as an SKS bayonet. Ruining every item on your person is borderline silliness. How on earth would this improve gameplay? Shooting yourself in the head would not destroy everything in your backpack. Plus this opens up potential for abuse, although that could be counterracted with a simple 60-second suicide countdown.

I specifically stated how it would improve gameplay! If you chasing me down for my gear involves a risk to you you'll think smarter.

For example, I've just finally located an M4 and a magazine, a bandit comes up fully intent on robbing me, we congratulations you know have a choice to make, continue to try to rob me at risk to the gear you're to lazy to find for yourself. Hope you can restrain or kill me before I kill me. Or stop being a lazy prick and find your own gear.

If I go along with a Robery the gear is lost to me anyway, what's it to me if I ruin all the gear? Obviously in a controlled situation I'm going to stow my bag in the event I need to "take a little off the top" but if it's me dying and you taking my gear I currently have no defense to that. With this system I do, it improves gameplay because it forces yet another difficult choice on would be bandits, CQC combat now becomes about getting that head shot and quick, or spray and pray and risk losing all the gear anyway.

Sure irl a cold steel blow job doesn't ruin all your things, but this isn't real life, and this gives the guy who isn't out to sdomize the world with rotten zucchini a defense against the ones who are.

Protective cases would function as normal te contents safe the case itself ruined however. This also helps closely mimic the effect suicide has in real life. It's not your life you ruined it's the lives of those around you, it also penalizes you, getting robbed sucks but there is that chance you'll get you're gear back if you spawn close enough to your body, a bandit might just be after your m4 you might find an SKS just after spawn and get the drop on them. A Hero Type might be nearby and get the bandit before he kills you.

It's like an onion and adds layers to the choices you make.

Do I allow myself to be robbed hoping my assailant doesn't kill me? Hoping I can hunt ten down and get my gear back? Hoping he just takes mah beans?

Do I hope a friendly is near by and kills the bandit? Or do I say fack it? One little pull of a trigger and I'm out, he doesn't get it I don't get it an I've payed the price for one of the most selfish acts possible! No one wins this is the penalty of Suicide! Not timers and magical respawn zones in purgatory actual consequences. A choice that physically effects everyone on the server.

Once they hammer out all the current bugs suicide should be a last ditch option. Trapped up a flight of stairs with a snapped leg you couldn't avoid before you kille that zombie. Again just dump your gear and pull the trigger. Still ruins the pistol all your stuff is fair game, but I understand, but giving people the option to kill themselves with nothing more than a respawn timer doesn't create immersion, having a physical consequence does

I would be fine with this, but the spawn system would have to be altered to accomodate it. For example, if you kill yourself then you spawn in a remote part of the map always. Seems harsh, but I think it would be the only way to prevent abuse of the system.

p.s. if your legs are broken, crawl to a tree and rummage around in the ground (saw it on wobo's channel, haven't tried it myself). Then tear up your shirt and built a splint out of the stick you just found. Not too hard. And if you die on the way, then no need for a suicide button.

It seems from your comment you have some kind of personal grudge against bandits (don't we all?). However, I believe Dean Hall has repeatedly stated that he has no intention of doing anything which restricts a certain playstyle (unless of course said playstyle is abusing bugs/glitches in the game). A magical respawn button which does the DayZ equivalent of Chivalry's F10 command would not be a practical method of suicide and would completely break immersion.

Given that it is an early access alpha, enabling the respawn function for players with broken legs is a no brainer.

It doesn't restrict a certain style of gameplay bandits will still bandit it just adds a new spectrum

Suicide is shown including the official trailer of the game, do not understand why this option has not added to the game.

Then up and down the coast of High pop servers you see bambi bodies everywhere

Isn't that already in the game?

I think you should only be able to commit suicide if you have a weapon e.g a knife, pistol or rifle

well that's just silly as in real life I am quite capable of stepping off of any high location to my impending death without any real obstacles. for a game that somehow strives for "realism" there are a lot of hugely unrealistic suggestions from the community.

Problem is the heights are unrealistiic in dayz.

You should only die after a huge fall , most of the falls would at best break your legs.

yeah I would have agree the heights are kinda out of sorts - nothing like loosin ya life to a one meter fall off a rock - but I suspect the construction sites, all (or most) of the apartment buildings, and a few other climbable structures are high enough. novo is full of such places.

So now that random spawns are in, it's probably essential to have a suicide button. Today, I spawned in the middle of a forest, with a broken leg. I crawled for at least an hour or two, looking for a barn or a player or something to just kill me.

It'll be an option in a future build.  A fun way to suicide now is to get a horde of zeds to follow you to a high traffic area and let them beat you to death there.  Then they will lie in wait for the next unsuspecting hiker to show up.

Leave your game running eventually the elements will take you away.

Dude, just cause there's a solution, doesn't make it any less annoying. It takes ages to die of natural causes, when I buy a game it's so I can PLAY it, not leave it running hoping something will kill me so I don't have to crawl to a town only to find there's no way of procuring medical supplies anyway, and despite all that, the process of getting to the aforementioned town would take forever.

if you spawned in a forest and you have a shirt you can tear up your shirt for rags then search the forest floor for sticks to make a splint. apply said splint and be on your way. should take 10 mins tops and that's stretching it. if you have no rags or items to make rags you could be in for an extended wait. there is always the option to request a medic or someone else from the forum to come and fix you up, be it meds to get you going or an axe to start you over. as a rule you should ALWAYS have something to make rags, that's just good planning.

I'm all for a suicide option.. as far as it comes with a penalty. Like 10 minutes to respawn again, or a fix respawn area.. a bit like going to hell...

i'm on board with the "button" as per such to kill yourself, every now and than you just need to be able to and it would be very handy.

i think that having a button that you press and hey presto your dead is good, HOWEVER, there needs to be a catch to it. say for example, you have a limit on how many times you can use this method within a certain time frame and there should be some conditions that make you able to press it.

this is just off the top of my head;

1- you can not use this button within 10 minutes of spawning, lets face it, if you cant get some type of bearings within 10 minutes, be it near a town or some land mark of some kind, are you REALLY playing dayz the way it's meant to, cause i know c.o.d is pretty cheap these days so..

2- if you've had a player that you've been playing with for say, 3 days in a row minimum, you should be able to use this button if something was to happen, say, you fall off a rock and are in the middle of no where, it would be handy (keeping in mind, if you last 3 days you actually know how to survive/craft and this would be a "last resort" style option)

3- bugs, atm there aren't many bugs that will make you need to kill your player, but, there still are, it would be handy.

i'm on the "it's a survival game" train, and fully agree with anyone who says "elements this, time that" type of shit, yeah, i agree, HOWEVER, there is always that one time when you just think "fuck this is annoying" and stop playing for an hour or few days simply because of something so small. no matter what game it is, dayz, cod, eve, what ever floats your boat, you're gonna have a "if only" moment where you wish you had something that you didn't.

in closing, i would like to be able to shoot myself in the head sometimes on dayz, or hang myself from above, or simple just jump off something and have it kill me, not hurt my leg or sprain my ankle.

Yeah, whatever it works.. but it have to be a penalty, suicide should always be the last resort .. both in the game and in life.

well, as they recently implemented the feature of drowning yourself I might have a comment on this.

I don´t understand the need of some people to suicide. but as everyone is crying for this, here a few options, better than: I´m lying in the water and drowning myself or jumping of any small building.

So i would like to see the height from which you die falling down enhanced to towers and the highest buildings. rest can break legs/bleeding/damage.

Other suggestions for suicides:

- shooting yourself with a chambered weapon (Immediate death)

- cut veins with a knife (strong bleeding => death)

- hang yourself on trees (immediate death) with wire/rope

every suicide should go together with a penalty, as bean king already said before.

it wouldnt make sense to kill your self if you have a gun with ammo , why would you when you can shoot others with it?, it just means you will respawn with no gun and search for a gun again?, i would say they should just keep it at drowning and jumping off buildings

would be funny seeing people hanging from trees and when you check the body "events got too much for player 'Y' and he had to end it all"
