I'm constantly shocked they don't throw all development into vehicles

Recommended Posts

Every time a new patch comes out and I check notes, I'm surprised to find vehicles haven't been introduced. As it is, the game is monotonous as hell. People find food and a gun within a few minutes, then progression is finished. There's nothing to do, so people get bored and end up just killing on sight for kicks.

DayZ the mod centers around vehicles as the ultimate progression. It's the most coveted item, but it's also hard to keep because it draws so much attention.

The developers should stop all development on anything else and just get vehicles in the game. Even if the physics are kinda wonky and unfinished, that's okay. Vehicles will add depth to the game, not foraging for blueberries.

P.S. This is my first post, and I love you all <3. DayZ will be the best gaming experience out there when completed. I'm sincerely posting with the intention to help, not just knock down.

I'm constantly surprised by people who want things at this very second rather than wait until the engine is good and ready to handle such things. As if performance isn't bad enough at the moment you want to throw cars, planes, helis, boats and bikes into the mix just to fuck over everybodies FPS and desync some more?

No thanks.

Full servers are lagging badly and he wants all the devs to work on vehicles. What a troll.

I want them ALL to stop making ANY items and to work on the optimization.

Hello there and welcome to the forums. Make sure to use the searchfunction prior to posting.

Vehicles are confirmed and being worked on, though not highest priority.

I have posted this numerous times already, but I will repost it, so you can get an idea why it will take a while.

There have been multiple topics about this and multiple answers as to why it's not possible and not as easy and quite frankly: not worth the time they're spending on it.

To name a few things:

  • Fuel
  • Fuel Economy
  • Repairsystem
  • Repairparts
  • Serverperformance while handling vehicles
  • Databaseconnection for vehicles
  • Vehiclestorage

It is not about the models - it's about the entire system, that needs to be right. Please use the searchfunction.

This. Vehicles will come when the dev team are good and ready. At this current time this will be Q3 of this year (for basic stuff).

They are not the most important thing right now. Bugs are.

Awesome, thanks for the replies. Was worried this might be a forum where you thread goes on for a week with no views :P

Sorry for not using the search. I did use it and found a couple threads mentioning vehicles, but nothing that seemed to address what I wanted.

What everyone said sounds right. I can understand that there are a ton of technical things that need to be done before vehicles are ready. I know nothing about programming.

I was being hyperbolic in the OP. Of course they shouldn't stop everything and put it into vehicles. But I just don't get why some things get development time. Like why there's such a focus on foraging and cooking. These things have virtually no effect on the experience. Right now, everyone can play for thirty minutes and have a gun and plenty of food and be finished with progression. There's nothing else to want. It doesn't matter that there are more varieties of guns introduced or different types of food.

I want to convince my friends to get the game too, but at the moment I really can't recommend it to anyone. Certainly bugs and server issues need to be addressed, but in order to maintain player base and grow, I think there need to be long term goals. Vehicles or barricades or something of that sort.

It's nice to see that you are actually concerned with things and not just pushing your agenda like at troll :)

Anyways, I very well understand you, but we should be honest with ourselves. This is what we've been warned about. Alpha, alpha, a dead horse, I know. But I wouldn't neccesary recommend the game to friends neither atm (they all already got it already anyways, :D ) The point is that we/you should come back in half a year, the we'll see how things are. It just takes time.

you are a customer that has agreed to pay for early access to the alpha, and because you dont get why some things get development time, is not important, 'you' think there need to be long term goals, really?

just enjoy teh game for what it is, and always play on busy servers, show your fiends some videos on youtube, i wouldnt try to convince anyone to get this game, i woudl suggest it, but this game isnt for everyone, it seems like you might not fully understand what the game is about either going by what youve said, just keep playing though, and enjoy this testing stage, like many of us are, dotn expect everything to be right, the game isnt being fully released for a long time

Welcome fellow survivor.

Don't get down about the negative comments. There's been a lot of whining on forums lately and it wears on our collective patience.

I'd love vehicles tomorrow as well. However I think they are making a smart play with focusing on survival/hunting. This is an area never fully realized in the mod. I think, if done right, it will effectively make DayZ two games in one.

First game is your classic DayZ-go find a gun, walkaround, loot some more, hopefully kill a guy

Next game will be hunting/survival sim which hopefully will be awesome-stealthing around the forest so as not to attract a bear since you don't have anything to defend yourself with yet.

It's important to remember that forums were going mad for awhile during mod dayz demanding some sort of end game beyond vehicles. Because from those player's perspective, the vehicle was part of the "same old find a car, drive around kill guys, isn't there anything else to do in DayZ, when are you going to implement (insert wishlist here)?"

So don't think vehicles is the end all be all for DayZ. You'll get bored of that too if you aren't playing the game correctly.

Oh you guys!  Picking on the new poster for asking silly questions.  At 2 posts he is still wet behind the ears.

OP, Your questions and concerns have been brought up many many times before.  But since you are new, you probably are unfamiliar with the road map that most of us have probably committed to memory after reading numerous times.  But just to get you up to speed and not forcing you to read something longer, here are upcoming features** that make us quiver with anticipation:

ETA: Sooner than vehicles - AK weapons.  Probably some sort of Sub Machine gun.

ETA:  This Wednesday (I hope) - Fireplaces, ovens, and lighting shit on fire.   Not literal shit, not yet at least.  New clothes to look more militaristic?  Maybe not yet.  But we have track pants, so we're ok for now.

ETA:  Not soon enough! (within a month hopefully) - new animals to hunt, with meat to loot, and the ability to cook it.  After that, all they need to add are NPC indian wives/slaves so I can be Jeremiah Johnson.

Oh shit!  I didnt mean to be offensive.  I meant I would want Native American wives/slaves

** = it has been over a month since I read this stuff, and suffice it to say recreational drug use has hindered my ability to remember the dates and/or items correctly.  Also it has left me with no motivation to fact check myself.

Anyone who played the mod and thought vehicles and helicopters were the end all be all was playing the wrong game.  They just allow you to get to places faster, make you louder, and definitely announce your presence a lot more than being on foot.  In Standalone, they're going to be deathtraps and things you won't be able to touch if  you really want to steal a working one.

If you shoot up the vehicle all to hell to kill the occupants inside, well, good luck with all those ruined car parts you now need to replace before it starts.  Anyone posting about vehicles at this point clearly has no idea what they were playing before or what they've gotten into now.

Because we all know in Standalone, Cars will only need some scrap metal, four wheels, some windshield pieces, engine parts, and fuel tank parts that aren't ruined. (10)

I don't really know what people are expecting DayZ to become.  Are there people out there that think we're going to build houses/bases and just sit around hanging out without guns?  Because you can already do that now, go claim a house and have your friends holed up in it, doubt you'll really last that long or have much fun just sitting in a house, ready to play the victim.  Do people really think that's where the game is ever headed?  This game will always be pvp, even if they make the zombies a real threat and something to work together against.  People will never stop killing one another in order to stay alive, or to gain an edge and lose a second (or more) mouth to feed.

Alot of what this thread contains is people talking about how broken the game is. I feel I should state my opinion.

I feel they should abandon this current build of the standalone and start fresh. The entire game is broken and the dev team doesn't seem to know what they are doing as far as the development goes (not saying they don't know how to create a game, but how to develop it well). The issue is that the core of the game isn't there. Let me list how they could go about things if they were to remake the game.

The servers are broken, they really are. And while I don't know anything about game development and servers, I don't see how it is so hard to use ArmA 3 like servers as those run much better than the standalone servers. So, let's say they use ArmA 3 servers. Sweet, now they can do a lot of stuff and not have to sorry nearly as much about their limitations.

Now let's throw in the pretty ArmA 3 engine and use that (and possibly modify it a bit). Now, we have a great engine that is ready for vehicles and more. Alright, so now we can add in some basic vehicles. Now, I don't know how possible this is, but they could copy & paste the vehicles from ArmA 3 into DayZ standalone and improve them however they want later. If not, then they can just add in a bicycle and not have to worry about things like fuel.

Now they can add in some guns, zombies, change up the map however they want, and more. And with these great ArmA 3 servers they'll still have things that they can add. Also, I feel they should change how the game is played.  Make guns and stuff harder to find. And don't add in a bunch of military items that makes your character look like they're soldiers in a fucking war. Also, do whatever you can to make sure it ISN'T a pvp game. A zombie apocalypse survival simulator is what I want. Now, do I expect the developers to do this? Hell no. But this is what I think.

It is a survival game. Your first priority should be finding food and /or weapon to defend yourself, not cruise down the highway.

I agree with you on easy to find food, and its something that can never be fixed, unless they can make a script, which controls loot amount according to no. of players in a server.

I dont believe cars should be top priority, for me its fixing melee weapons and infected glitching.

I'm the same.. what the hell man, I would rather be ranting about wanting zombies but my current dayz obsession allows me to understand whats going on in that area of the development process

Hello there

I've emboledened the relevant bit.

Now, I can understand that from a novice view that simply "moving" to the A3 engine is the way forward. This simply is not correct.

Just porting A2 vanilla assets over to A3 is very problematic in many areas. If it wasnt us A3 players would be blissfully happy with all the A2 content. The AiA mod team (with help form BiS) are trying to move stuff over but its far from simple.

Now, throw in all the vast changes to the RV engine that have already been made in development and you would be looking at a large turnaround time.

And that's just the tip of the iceberg.

Its a nice idea in theory but if it was that easy and helpful to do, do you not think they would have already done it?

Rgds

Vehicles are the least important thing right now.

The very fundamentals of the game are either broken or downright suck. Vehicles would do nothing to fix those so its unimportant.
