Missions and meaning in the game

The game needs missions. Because now its just pointless PVP. Seriously, why the game need such complex survive system (blood preasure, hunger, disease) and so big map to explore if only that matter that you will kill other player or you would be killed? The game must have some meaning, some goal to achieve (Sorry for my english, btw, I`m from Russia) This game is not a f@king Counter strike or Battlefield, right? It more like S.T.A.L.K.E.R. or Fallout. Its looks like the old good classic. So I hope it become more then another pointless PVP shooter.

 

Теперь по русски. Игре нужно придать смысл, добавить миссии или задания. У игры сложная система выживания и огромная карта для изучения, но всё это теряет смысл, когда игра сводится к простому - Я тебя убью, или ты меня убьёшь. Это же не очередной Контр Страйк или Батлфилд. А сейчас все быстренько находят себе стволы чтоб только пострелять в других игроков. Тогда че бы не ограничить карту до одного посёлка и чтоб там в каждом доме валялась пушка, и нафиг зомби, нафиг систему здоровья, нафиг еду и лекартства, ведь это щас никого не интересует, а важно только что ты просто получишь пулю в лоб. В общем, отбросив сарказм, хочу сказать что надеюсь что эта игра станет большим, чем очередной бессмысленый ПВП шутан.

I understand it perfectly. The mission is to stay a life for verry long long time.

But If we can eurn a achievement or a way to se how long the streak is to stay a life from fiends that will be nice to do bether then your friends.

So the longest ingame time that you stay alife will come in a top 10 - 50 - 100. Now you must get on top to be the best survivor.

The building forts must be inplemented right away so we can defend and atack the forts from ather people. But for that the servers must be placed in Hives. (now its like this: respawn <-> eat drink <-> kill or be killed <-> respawn. and every thing begins from 0) gets boring afther several dayZ.

This is the reason i geared my character fully up,mosin,sks,aphibia and a magnum.My clothes are like a bush now.

 

Im waiting for a new patch that make the things more motivational.Comon maked so much money and now they work like DICE lol :p .And a update for a STABLE FRAMES PER SECOND!!!!!!.

I totally agree with you but since this game tries to simulate real life as much as possible, a mission would not be "realistic".

 

Maybe a mission could me something like a global event that happens on the server which forces everyone to do something (which is the mission then). This could also force players to move to some hotspots on the map, which makes it even more interesting because then you'd also have to fight or avoid (or sometimes team-up) with other players.

 

Another idea is that certain places of the map provide missions. If you go there something like a KI-Player begs you for help to retrieve something.

I think if Dean follows the Epoch mod with the Fort/Base building, you will have groups of players collaborating to build/attack/defend bases. And as soon as you have vehicles, the dynamics will change completely.

That looks like another Battlefield. Why do we need that? I rather play Battlefield instead, if I want just shooting and riding cars and tanks, without worrying about my health.

It has to be some motivation that stops players from killing each other. Now the game just have no sence - The world is ruined, zombies everywhere, so last of us must survive? No, lets just kill everybody who still breath.

The point I was trying to say is, that the missions should be included into the game in a way that you don't really realize it's a mission, rather than you think, wow this world is fascinating. What I reffered to as "not realistic" would be someting like "go to place x, and and do thing y", which is how most missions in computer games look like I hope you understand what i'm trying to say.

Well, why not? For example you have some mark on the map and must find it using compass or something like that. I think that be interesting. But now the only mission in the game is find weapon, and shoot first. Where is no collaboration with other players in the game, especialy at russian servers. Everybody just try to shoot you as soon as they see you, wtf...It looks like monkey got a gun, monkey starts using a gun. What so interesing in that? And I understand it - you finaly find all the ammunition that you want and what next? Of course  use it. Because there is nothing left to do in the game exept that, till now.

If you played Epoch, you would know this has nothing to do with Battlefield. I'm not saying you ride a tank. You could build custom cars with planks on the sides and spikes on the front and back to attack other people bases to steal supplies. Give a watch to the debut of Mel Gibson in films on his biggest role yet in Mad Max, specially Mad Max 2. That film portrays exactly what DayZ is supposed to be in real life (without the zombie aspect).

People have bases and try to steal other people/bases supplies to ensure the survival of their own group.

Vehicles + base building = Battlefield. Got it.

Seems logic *lol*

They are missions you set to yourself, just do that in the game?

I've been into the dayz universe for almost 2 years now (anniversary soon :D) and as much as I love and understand the game I would still like to see something like the op suggests but on a very small scale..                        --- randomly generated --- I'm thinking something as simple as a note of paper with some basic information on it found on an infected person. The note could explain something is hidden close by, example..

 

" Each night the infected numbers grow stronger.. It's just me and Anton left now..I cant take it much longer.. the moaning and the screams of the dead is all I can hear even in my dreams. I have to get out of this house. We plan to wait untill the cover of darkness and leave tonight.. we only have enough food for another day. Anton has a compass, lantern and a pistol which should help us get to the mountains where his uncle is or was living.."  

 

you get the drift, obviously the characters in the note didnt make it hence the supplies are in a house close by.. or maybe its been looted REGARDLESS.. great for immersion.

 

The same idea could work for when locked doors are introduced and finding a key on an infected you have destroyed

at the moment there is not much to do in the game, you gear up, and kill people, and maybe help some freshspawns, in the future, there will be more stuff to do in dayz, fix up a car, build a base, and that kind of stuff, but i do agree with liquidcactus´s idea. (Above me)

Yes, I think the idea could be simple enough and shouldnt really have much of an impact on controlling the game in anyway. A bit of "non player made" back stories in the way of notes that inform you of goodies should be accepted as something else that adds atmosphere and immerses you in the environment like that of the weather effects or zombies moaning in the night

it also takes too little time to recover from anything, it makes status effects a mere inconvenience. To take example with cataclysm-dda (and many zombie survival stories relate this kind of things), a bad encounter with a zombie mob left my character near dead in an abandoned cabin for more than a week, surviving to it was a miracle and recovering from it took a while.

In the past there were cool ideas like repairing the electricity for a town to have light sources etc. I still think it would be cool to have missions to have benefits to them but I'm totally against about making Dayz like every other mmo out there.

Quests would be the death of dayz imo. Having tons of ways you could play the game and for having the NEED to have them makes the game for me.

Repairing my get away vehicle and driving somewhere where nobody ever goes would be my ideal "ultimate end game". Fishing on an island with no care in the world would be epic. Would play until I die irl.

I'm all for things like repairing power stations to bring light to a town, power fridges for food storage and power vending machines for bottles of water, cans of soda or food. I'm even all for random NPC events like a small group (1-3) of survivors requiring a an escort to an area in exchange for food/water/ammo/meds (with their bodies working like a player's, where doing tons of damage to them will destroy what they're carrying so trigger-happy bandits can't just take free stuff for not doing any work. I'm lookin at you KoS CoD kiddies) or a lone survivor who's wounded and has been infected and has a hidden stash that you can have for putting him out of his misery. Hell, I'm even all for crazy things like weapon jamming when your weapon is in disrepair (speaking of which, firing seriously needs to degrade weapons a LOT more than it does now... Weapon Repair Kits have no use otherwise). One thing I'd really like to see is a trap system (one day...) where one can do things like rig a doorway with a tripwire attached to a shotgun at head-level across the room, allowing to "fortify" a house and defend it from dirty bandits and the like.

 

Sadly, all of these ideas are moot until the devs are finished dealing with more important things... Like Zombie Pathing (finally they're getting around to that... we've only asked about 10000 times a month) or a loot respawn system (btw... that Quadrant idea they're going with... totally worthless when there's more than 10 people on a server... no quadrants will ever be empty with that many people on... it needs to be a timed system per structure type... like 3 hours for weapon spawns, 2 for medical, 1 for civilian [clothes/food/drink/etc], 4 hours for military spawns [airfields and tents]... stuff like that) or the fact that military tents and deer stands don't spawn ANY LOOT at all. Just sayin guys... *HINT HINT*!

i think you create your own missions in the game, just by moving over the map, and with more mechanics, im imagining it wont be such an easy mode in future to survive, so mission will be more stay alive, sometimes maybe its mission to meet your friend, o r mission to an area because yo need ammo, or whatever.

anyway i really hope we dont see any thing that is npc generated or any forced mission structure, even suggested mission structure.

i dotn think everyone plays this game as if its pvp only, even in its alpha state. i know i dont. some friends do though, so i just dont play with them much.

I can see it now: Sitting in the woods With a friend holdin a newly added umbrella over you, another using his new fanning motion to.keep you.cool, and a whole squad bringing you.food and drinks to.become the top.survivor
