ZombieHeadHunterALPHA 7 Posted May 4, 2014 I was looting one of the buildings at the SWAF when a single shot rang out. It sounded like a mosin so I grab my M4 with a red dot and 60 rd mag and run downstairs to the cell. As soon as I get to the window I see an armed man running for the door. No time to talk, no time to think, i just react and squeeze the trigger. I see the muzzle rise in slow motion but manage the recoil and train my red dot on him until he drops. Then in the corner of my eye I see another guy running right behind coming straight for the door. In my tunnel vision focused on the first guy I didn't notice the second guy. I take a few quick pot shots through the window and run out of the cell. As i retreat towards the stairs I unload the remaining rounds into the door not know where the second assailant was. I get behind the wall and lean over with a fresh mag. I wait and nothing happens. I finally muster up the courage to move and peek out the window. i see the first guy with his face planted in the concrete. I look around and don't see the second guy. I lean over and bare notice his partner's feet poking out of the front steps while most of his body went through the steps. Yea it was KOS but at the airfields it's kill or be killed. Especially when they have their guns out. My question is does bullets go through doors and if so is the damage lowered? Can you also shoot through stair cases? Thanks. Daemonkid 493 Posted May 4, 2014 (edited) It should, because god damn. I was denied a kill the other day because SOMEONE FORGOT THAT THOSE TIN FENCESARE NOT MADE OF THICK CONCRETE!My 5.56 didn't even go through it. I was livid. ZombieHeadHunterALPHA 7 Posted May 4, 2014 So why didnt they use the arma 3 engine?
Bororm 1156 Posted May 4, 2014 7.62 will go through any thin wood, so wooden fences, wooden doors, barn walls that sort of thing. NOT house/building walls. Pretty sure 5.56 will as well. They'll also penetrate thin metal, so stuff like the thin metal shacks/hanger walls etc.As far as I could tell, bullets would NOT penetrate metal doors however, such as the doors on the jail/atc. Wood doors, yes. I didn't test it all that well though, but in the little testing I did they did not seem to. So yeah, there is bullet penetration, but it's mainly for what looks to be extremely thin materials and the type of round does matter. Trajectory will also be altered upon penetration. Ricochets are also a thing.
gibonez 3633 Posted May 4, 2014 So why didnt they use the arma 3 engine? Time probably. Arma 3 was not ready for when Dayz stand Alone started development. Had they had a choice of course they woulda gone with the arma 3 engine because it looks so much better than standalone.
liquidsnake 275 Posted May 4, 2014 Time probably. Arma 3 was not ready for when Dayz stand Alone started development. Had they had a choice of course they woulda gone with the arma 3 engine because it looks so much better than standalone.I believe it was because they wanted an engine specifically made for DayZ for maximised performance. OT: 7.62 should penetrate concrete walls up to 4 inches and the damage should be a bit closer to 5.56 (the other way around actually). 7.62 should fire through the white barn, all wooden houses, the metal fences, the metal shacks, doors, etc. This would make the difference between 7.62 and 5.56 more in tune with reality: only a little more damage, but its real advantage is sheer penetration of most cover, but with more recoil as downside. Also better ballistics in terms of long range encounters. 5.56 should have the edge in CQ (unless there's solid cover).
-DMG-Jonesy 226 Posted May 4, 2014 (edited) I shot a guy through a wall here, it wounded him, but didn't kill him. Mosin. And another guy I shot through glass, here at 1:44. Neither seems to have taken a huge amount of damage. Edited May 4, 2014 by -DMG-Jonesy
Irish. 4886 Posted May 4, 2014 Bullet penetration and ricochet are very real things in DayZ.. but they are as reliable as the rest of the game. (i.e. it doesn't always work right)
qww 287 Posted May 6, 2014 i just got shot and killed when i was upstairs room in 1 of these houses in svetlojarsk i walked into the upstairs room standing, then crouched just before a shot was fired at me which i think hit me, but didnt damage me much or at all, so i went prone and faced the door to the hallway, and after a few more seconds they fired more shots which were hitting me and in a few seconds i was dead. noone could see me from any type of higher view , and noone had come up the steps and shot me from the hall way, im sure of these things, so i came on the forums to see if its possible to shoot through the walls of these large green or red wooden exterior houses. as i underdtand from reading its not possible so i guess this was someone cheating somehow? http://i.imgur.com/EMGOIn8.jpg <this type of house

p4triot 207 Posted May 6, 2014 (edited) If only. WHY THE HELL DIDNT THEY USED ARMA 3 ENGINE FOR DAYZ -.- //EDIT: And im not talking just about ballistic, but also graphics engine, animations, movements and so on. Holy fuck half the work would be already done! -.- Edited May 6, 2014 by p4triot
real meatshield 424 Posted May 6, 2014 If only. As someone who also plays ARMA3 and its varying mods/missions, this was a godsend. Not that I didn't know, but now I know in much greater detail about penetration and ricochets. If only, indeed.
