That still wont stop the kids from playing lol.

I know, but it makes gore and other mature themes easier to pass because they can rate it as R18. In the past we only had MA15, so everything had to be appropriate for 15 year olds.

I still cant get why gta v is only r18 because of drugs! What about the violence, torture, killing of civillians, sex and much much more?

If our girly wearing pants government does somehow ban it..there is always a way to get around it. I would imagine gta v would have to banned first anyway..suicide, smoking bongs, dead chicks with their tops off and the naked men in the mountain..so genitals... but it survives with an R rating.

Hello,

After reading rockets reddit post it seems to me that he doesnt care about us aussies, and the game getting banned here because of suicidide and smoking, i like many other people would hate this! (Stupid ESRB rating system) here is rockets quote:I'm not trying to be rude, but the answer to what you're saying is: So what? If Australia "bans" DayZ, what exactly does that matter? I am not aware DayZ has large sales in North Korea, for example, and the world isn't ending for us and we're not trying to plaster the game with photos of the supreme ruler to try and appease that market. Even if Australia banned DayZ, banning things just makes more people want it. People find a way to access it. The media would talk about it lots. What happens then? More people buy it. That's what is so absurd about it all, and why I don't factor it into our decision making. We're just making the game we want to play. Given the success so far, that means we can continue to do that without having to worry about individual markets or "media".

I am also wondering why he sais who cares if it gets banned i australia and then starts talking about north korea? Is he comparing us to one another? And how the hell would i get another copy if they banned it in aus rocket! Move to 'murica?

Post your thoughts below.

Well thats a rude way to tell us aussies, thank you for your support. Wish he said this before i bought this. Then me and so many other aussies wouldnt have contributed to his $30m.

H1z1 isnt looking so bad now

Can you really blame him? It is not his/Behemia's fault that Australia, or any other country for that matter, has harsh censorship.

This is where the North Korea comparison is apt: If a Czech company lets internal Australian politics influence their creative process, why stop there?

It wouldn't make sense. You can't expect the whole world to follow your local laws.

Rocket didn't get 30 million dollars and you know that. Please stop this, it's ridiculous.

I'm loving the fact that the hate is being levelled at a guy who was just being honest about your ridiculous censorship laws. I thought Aussies were made of sterner stuff - when did you let Melbourne become the unofficial capital, guys?

I remember something like this with L4D, sure it was Aus that had the none staying corpses, or was that Ger?

Either way if that new r18 cert dosent cut it, then im sure the devs can make a few "tweaks" with a list of points from the BI law team to make it conform. May even do what l4d did and throw in an extra gun or melee for the peeps loosing a lil content. That's how I hope they tackle it if needs be anyways :)

Hmm to the rest of the free world North Korea stands out as one of the worst places considering organized human oppression and extreme censorship. That is probably why Rocket relates it to The Southern Continents ignorant and suppressive control of information and ideas. I don't know why you guys still accept these kinds of restrictive thought control from your government. With that in mind Aussies and NZ's are among my favourite peoples and I would love to visit their countries sometime.

Most of us (i would hope) realise there is always a way around getting your hands on stuff that the bigwigs in Can-berra seem to get their knickers in a knot over.  Darwin is the real capital anyway, Melbourne is just where we go when we want to see what shitty rain looks like ;)

I appreciate rocket's attitude and agree with his reddit post.

The hideous double standard and cencorship in video games is extremely annoying. Especially since every country uses completely different criteria.

In germany violence is bad. In the US drugs and sex are bad. And in australia everything is a no go

Start mass protests against idiotic censorship laws, and if that doesn't work, over-react and overthrow your country!

In all seriousness- Protest. Protest a lot, and bring the world's attention to such bullshit laws.

But DayZ should not have to skip out on adding gore, suicide, and other 'mature' features- Its a survival horror game and needs to have some disgusting shit in it, I want to see mangled corpses lining the roads from psychopathic massacres. I want to be able to look at someone's corpse and know how they died- A shot to the head or thirty rounds through the chest.

This doesn't need to be ruined by one or two country's bullshit censorship.

So I agree with Rocket.

I already did that, they said to take it up with the ESRB, they replied that they belive the current ratings are sufficient of the current games and there content though they did confirm that luckily they cant take my steam games from me so i just gotta make sure i dont accidentally delete it. Also i hope rocket ment south rather than north but he did talk briefly about dictatorship after that so im guessing he ment what he said!

The ESRB doesn't ban games, they just rate the games. Its your Classification Board, the ones that slap the E, G, PG, M, MA 15+, and R 18+ (as opposed to the ESRB's system found here http://www.esrb.org/index-js.jsp) that can Refuse Classification (even if the ESRB has given it one) that results in the bans.

The government should work for the people, that is why we elect them and pay them with taxes. Not the other way around.

Yea change the laws in Australia if you wish to no longer get discriminated upon.

Makes no sense to sensor a game and ruin it for 99 percent of people just so 1 percent can play it in Australia.

Problem is the law.

Thoughts: doesn't surprise coming from Rocket, it would seem he actually doesn't give a fuck about "clients". He should at least try to look up for some wayaround. But the BAN decision is made by Aus, not BIS

The comparison was they aren't jumping through hoops to appease that market by putting pictures of Mr. Kim all over the place so why should they jump through hoops to appease the censorship in Australia by removing the things they somehow find "below their standards"?

He is subtly comparing Australia's video game censorship to an oppressive dictatorship not the country as a whole.

And to be frank I think Australia's regulations are the dictatorship of the video game world.

I remember reading an article about this with the whole Dead Island franchise not being allowed in Australia as well due to similar topics lol.

It's ridiculous. Adults should be allowed to view whatever content in a game they want.

I do feel bad for Australia but not enough to approve of games being watered down to fit their ridiculous laws.

yep

I feel bad for you aussies they ban any game they can for BS reasons IMHO. maybe the gamers should join forces and petition or do some political activists shit to get the laws overturned. yet I don't see why the game should have features pulled because countries would ban it from a designer point of view I wouldn't change anything to please another person or another country but thats just me. as for dean and friends it seems they are feeling the same why edit the game just to make it pass inspection of course some folks will get screwed but you can't let laws and bullshit get in the way of creativity and content. its up to you aussies to stand up for what you want if you want violent video games and dayz then you need to tell your government and your politicians that you do. as in America I'm sure its the same in AUS that the citezens are the boss of the government officials some forget that I know the politicians have what we say goes not what there lobbyists or they think they are our employees and they should do what we say.goodluck OP and I hope you guys keep the game over there I've played a lot with aussies and you guys are some of the best cats to play the game with.
