Shortest restart time possible. Day only. Name it "LOOTING ONLY - NO KILL".

You will draw hordes of server hoppers. After a week change the title and settings.

1h restarts for more loot, military starting gear, spawn points around NWAF only, recon drones after 3 kills, dogs/rabid sheep after 6 kills and artillery/attack helo after 7 kills...did i miss something?

Then you should be fully prepared to jump on this guy's server and help out the population! :)

@OP - as mentioned, if you rename the server to show it's no PVP, you will attract a ton of people looking to PVP. It's part of the Laws of DayZ.

I've noticed a large drop in activity as well. Not that my server is maxed out all the time but I was averaging at least 20+ players. Now I'm lucky if I have 5. Meh. I'll wait another month and see if it picks up and if not I'll shut it down.

Edited to show server ip/port.

Yeah i would imagine making it a 1hr restart would attract more looters/server hoppers for sure.  But would that really help in attracting general population through out the day.

FAST LEWT - COLD BEER - NO PVP - EXTRA BOOBIES

Yeah I'd say that about covers it.

Side note, I've noticed a humorous trend for hosts to begin their server name with a space, so that it's at the top of the list when sorted by name and therefore easy to find.

Over time people have added more and more spaces to their names in order to compete for top spot, and now it has this silly cascading effect

Stable and advertised here were my recommendations with frequent, scheduled restarts. The first host that figures out a way to broadcast admin warning alerts in advance of restarts - say 10 min warning, 5 min warning, and down to zero - will have me on it regularly. Nothing like dropping your mosin with LRS to eat and getting the red alert!

That's against the rules.

Make an official post here http://forums.dayzgame.com/index.php?/forum/125-servers/ and keep your members posting into the thread in order to keep players looking.  2 hrs is off putting IMHO, you might make a quick slate and place it on 24/7 day for a week or so which I am not a fan of but it does tend to populate servers.  From there try to seed it as best you can at one time with your friends so others see a population during primetime and join you.

Best Regards,

Steak.

From a players view my opinion is having a well performing server running without annoying issues should be your best bet. Server admins that f*ck around with the server, which kick player and abuse their power are not very enjoyable. And those who try to lure with loot are the ones I avoid first.

My question in return would be: Why you need a full server? Is that somehow important?

At $100/month it'd be in your best interest to having a full server

Yeah, of cause, but mine would be that I get it the way I like, meaning hard, tough, vanilla dayz unforgiven with rare items.

If some like that and realize by time that the server is reliable, they come back.

In return I'd gladly like to block server from my server list, because for example the admin kicked me because we were in the same area that he wanted to loot himself. (Yep, actually happened)

Whats worked for us has been having teamspeak and website so non-members are aware of events on the server e.g - clan wars, fight nights, even have a TLa team similar to the Reddit Rescue Force. Just do your best to communicate with your playerbase and keep everything fresh, yes this is even possible in an alpha game.
