What would you guys think of persistent bandages and splints, that are tied to the server and active until restart only?

The idea is simple, when you bandage or apply a splint, it will persist on that server until either your death or a restart.

This would do several things: allow players to see if you've been hurt recently, for players dressed in camo the large white bandage on your leg would make you stand out more to other players, adds to immersion, and if possible could show where a player was wounded.. so a leg shot would end up with a leg bandage, etc..

Of course this would not be something to get going soon, they have plenty other content to work on and bugs to fix, but perhaps this is something that can be worked on down the road if people seem to like the idea. Discuss your thoughts on the idea of persistent bandaging, and whether you would like to see things like this added into DayZ. Also turtles are a subject. Maybe DayZ needs turtles?

There has been talk, that the devs are thinking about making every item in the server persistant.

I suggest for the blood,to show on clothing rather than the bandages. That way people will know that something went down.

Also turtles are a subject. Maybe DayZ needs turtles?

Who in the right mind would even try to imagine, what an apocalypse would be without turtles?

They are a must and should be a priority on the dev's to-do list.

Hell yes.

Get shot in the head, SOMEHOW LIVE, bandage your head, everyone knows you're a huge badass.

Get shot in the chest, SURVIVE, bandage your chest, show you're just a slight badass.

Everyone will know you have trouble with your bowel movements now, and thus they will take pity on you, and provide you with lots of toilet paper?

Definitely an idea that I hadn't even considered.

Would be great, maybe the player could remove them after his/her wound has "healed". I always liked in RDR when you got shot, the blood stained your clothes for a bit.

I don't think it'd be that hard to implement, would just need an adjusted bandage/rag model to wrap around the legs, arms, torso, or head. I don't think any more granular awareness of "where you got shot" is necessary.

I would add that while you are "healed" when applying a bandage, that you aren't fully healed until the wound is. For example, you were shot in the arm, bandaged, blood replenished, but you can only hold up your iron sights for a limited amount of time until your character groans. Or if you were shot in the leg you would be able to sprint for a limited amount of time before breaking into a limp until you caught your breath. Over time these issues would be come less frequent and less apparent.

I'm sure this has been suggested before, but small hinderences and tradeoffs like these would help add value to your character in a way, by giving slight penalties for survivng longer and acquiring more and better gear in a reverse psychological sense.

Does that even make sense? I think i lost myself... Those fucking turtles though...

I believe they've already implemented a wounded animation???.... I could be wrong. Its new if they did. I need to be wounded first to know for certain and thats not happened yet.

Actually, my current toon is wounded. I keep getting the nagging "my leg is in pain", "my leg is painful" messages in red, although all I see is healthy, energized and hydrated. I have only one morphine so I am saving it; not using it has not produced any ill effects beyond that random message spamming in the lower left. Animation seems the same, and movement speed doesn't seem to be hindered at all- however, I do have 2 primaries atm, so no outright sprinting yet to test it.

0. Get Energized and Hydrated (or get saline bags)

1. Get a friend

2. Get him to knife you

3. Bandage

4. Repeat 2

5. Repeat 3

6. Repeat until you have a DayZ mummy halloween costume

I saw a video or something showing a wounded animation.. I think it was youtube? recently though. Maybe it was on experimental on the 23rd, or maybe I am just way too blind ? I thought I saw something that made your player move hunched over and slower, but was bugged and let you run around still if sprinting.

Edit:  Ahhh, I see.  Actually persistent on the character.  Well I like the idea except for the engine limitations that it already struggles with due to poor optimization.  I wouldn't mind seeing actual battle wounds, scars, broken limbs and proper bleeding(not the lame fountain we see).

Btw, there is a suggestions forum.  Just a suggestion ;)

Yeah, and make the low quality ones more visible. Rags: bright white, compromises camo greatly. First-aid bandages: greyish white, isn't too bad, but makes you slightly more visible. High grade bandages (the green ones from the mod): green, complements your camo nicely, but the packs only come with one bandage (yes I know the bandages aren't supposed to be green).

I like the idea of bandages and splints not being a "instant fix" and being a persistent item that displays like you said to heal over time.

If they made them work like the burlap sack(over the head) but the effect was they would repair the injury over time. They should allow for an instant effect like being able to limp on the broken leg instead of crawl while it heals though. I would like it to eventually repair the injury allowing it to be removed though.

I also went into detailed wounding in my player thread in my signature

Someone mentioned something about bandages and rags should only stop sever bleeding temporary until you find proper medical treatment.  Until they you need to keep applying bandages to keep the bleeding at bay.

Needle and thread. Just stitch it up.

I like that idea, I cover off on injuries, treatments etc. In the health section of my thread, and small/heavy bleeding in my catastrophic damage section. You should give it a read and let me know what you think

Not sure how many here have played Metal Gear Solid 3, but how about a medical system like that? It was easy to use, yet pretty realistic. Add a time penalty for each treatment and it's all set for DayZ.

I'm all for this, but wouldn't a bandage be under your pants? ;P

Yup, but that wouldn't make you look badass and battle hardened.

On topic, how about the limp animation as long as the bandage is needed (few hours or so)? Or until you've regained full blood? Getting shot should have some consequences until you're healed.
