Want to See Molotovs in This Months Update

So anyone who has been keeping themselves up to date with the developers of DayZ would already know that we have a patch inbound by the end of this month (April)

 

A few of the main highlights of the next update are the new throwing physics, & the ability to light flammable objects on fire. What better time to implement molotovs now that we're getting both throwing physics & fire?

 

They could be a craftable item that require a bottle of alcohol & a rag to make. Whenever you want to use it, put the molotov in your hands, & drag a box of matches over it, & it's now on fire ready to be thrown. Throw it, & watch the radius of where it landed burn for X amount of seconds (think Counter-Strike: GO). This could vary as we haven't yet seen what will actually be "flammable" & what will not in game.

 

What we can expect in the next update has really inspired this idea & this is something I would love to see in game.

 

Feel free to post any opinions as to way this should or should not be put into the game.

Far cry 2 style fire. Server restarts, 10 people log on, 10 minutes later, Server crashes because We thought it'd be funny to light that bush on fire, Now half the world is burning.. I like it.

Sounds cool but no way they can do this now.  They cant even render dead zombie bodies, a bunch of shit on fire would crash our currently shitty engine and servers.   The lag to pull out my weapon has gotten me killed...... But you want big molotov cocktail fires? What planet do you live on?

I like this idea, however I currently I think there are 2 problems about implementation with this atm.

1. Actual alcohol bottles (anyone know when they are going to be implemented?)

2. The realism factor or in other words the fire spread system. I see you already mentioned of letting spot X only burn for a couple of seconds but that wouldn't be very realistic would it?  The other side is you let the fire spread and let half the map burn down...of course that's not an option either..

Seems like a cool thing to have in the game, altough I don't really see any other use for other than ambushing/distraction to use on a group. 

EDIT: Also, shouldn't this be in the Suggestion forum?  :P

Love this idea, it makes perfect sense. Kinda reminds me of The Last Of Us.

 

Come the next update, we should really test out the physics system, see if there's any bugs, and basically get used to the system. Then move on to molotovs and whatnot.

 

I really like this idea, though.

The awesome planet where badasses like me want Molotovs!  Make it so!

But can we have a planet where 30 million dollars in revenue can get 30 eastern Europeans to fix the damn engine first?

Why don't we first fix zombie behaviour and performance issues? Then we can add fire, ponies and sh!t

1. Well, alcohol tinctures are in the game already. Could be used quite easily.

 

2. Doesn't matter about spot on realism does it? I think OP made a pretty cool suggestion. Letting an area burn for a few seconds or minutes would work really well, just like the mod. Obviously the fire spread would need to be a reasonable, but I think this could really be well done, if done correctly.

Those things are subject to adding new content.

 

Say they fix zombies & optimize performance & all is peachy.

Roll out next update.

Zombies are broken again & performance suffers.

 

It's the adding of new content that creates the problems in the first place. That would have the dev team working ass-backwards.

What do you mean? I always liked to stop, wait 2 seconds, think about it a little more, throw it in an animation of about 5 seconds and then eventually release it 3 seconds after the animation ended.

 

It's not actually that bad, but frustrating at times - and made grenades / smokes almost useless.

Static fire (camp fires) is not the same thing as a dynamic fire.

Yes, indeed 'if done correctly'. I do think tough that if they're gonna implement Molotovs, they need to work really well on the fire spread & damage etc.

Also, considering Molotovs, would you also be able to light people on fire like a human torch?  :|

I keep seeing in the update details that "Players will be able to create fires and light flammable objects on fire"

 

Now maybe I just interpreted this wrong? You would think they would refer to it as "cooking", & not "the ability to light things on fire" if that were the case.

 

Now if it is the former scenario (you can only make static campfires as opposed to lighting in-game objects on fire), then this isn't how I originally interpreted the initial update announcement.

 

ALTHOUGH, I would still love to see molotovs in game even if this is a concept that would need to be worked from the ground up at this point in development.

 

Again, think Counter-Strikes incendiaries & molotovs

Well, we do already have fire exstinguishers in game

 

although they're not functional.........yet ;)

I can see myself killing.... Myself... Many many times with a poor throw trying to flush someone out.

It's happened plenty of times in CS:GO
