Dean Hall encourages server hopping at egx rezzed

Recommended Posts

If you want exact times.

* Listen from (44:15 – 44:41)

“Bearing in mind”

“Combine with our centralized loot economy. There might only be parts for that helicopter that you need on one particular server. So that’s where you are like “we need all these different parts to finish off our helicopter, we are going to have to go steal someone else’s from a server we know about”

^

If I didn't write his words exactly, due please correct my wording.

The central loot economy just seems a reason to make server hopping even more popular, but tbh it already is.

* Can't find a pair of NVG's in the NWAF?

- Just server hop the next twenty servers, like the five minute timer is going to really stop players. It takes easily more than five minutes to reach any other military base area by foot.

But as server hopping is atm, it's kinda sad that rocket supports this system...

* Can't find food / basic gear in a town - Server hop the area.

* Can't find parts to your vehicle at some industrial area - Server hop the area , just like the mod.

* Can't find military gear at a base - Server hop the area.

You didn't understand him at all.

"...so they'll have to go steal someone else's on the server"

He isn't encouraging server-hopping. He's encouraging player-interaction based on the availability (or lack-thereof) of helicopter parts. >.>

I did not see that from dean at all, i think he was acknowledging the reason why people server hop and can understand it but he would like to eliminate it like applejax said, he wants certain parts to be hive based so say for example there are only two pairs of night vision goggles and people have already got those two pairs of night vision goggles your ass can server hop all you want, Your never going to find a pair of night vision goggles. You need to interact with other players if you ever want to find them.

Every god damn thread.

We know. That doesn't instantly block any criticism  or airing of concerns, the whole point of being here is to play the game and give feedback, hopefully improving the game along the way.

OP is most likely worried about nothing, but he's still doing his job as a player of this ALPHA by reporting and discussing his concerns for the games future.

No I am sure he mentioned a different server entirely, not the same server.

Might I also suggest re-watching the idea around the "central loot economy"

* He plans to add a limited amount of items in the hive.

An example would be a limited number of NVGs

* The server that some random player is paying for might not even spawn a NVG due to the NVGs being spread across thousands of servers.

- Thus you must server hop to find a pair.

What's wrong with 3 or 5 or 8 different player's popping up every 4 mins at NWAF, in the bushes, in the buildings, in the hangars, and shooting the crap out of each other to try to get whatever loot is left, and rushing off 3 mins later to do it again? On a good day there must be 200 people go through 1 control tower...  with an average stay of 3 mins..and a good death rate. I think its GREAT, they all kill each other, and rage and shout, and snipers LIVE in the bushes full time...

For some reason that's all BAD, but 'hopping' to a full server, to hit CHERNO in gangs and groups and mass fighting to the death is GOOD..

I don't get it

(but I don't GO to NWAF, lol, ... I lost my LRS)

While it's fun for you, for me it's just stupid.

If my group of four players clears an area out of enemies. Players shouldn't be able to just appear on a random tower / bush to begin death-matching.

But then again that is the public hive in a nutshell.

He has never said you should sever hop, only that items will be hard to find. He did NOT say, "If you can't find helicopter parts, go to another server."

Those are rockets words, aka server hop to find the parts to your heli

that is a completely stupid system. I really hope he rethinks it. if they start putting crap like this in its gonna turn this into a really crappy game. I don't like playing on multiple servers, and I don't like server hopping.

Read my last post, and correct any mistakes I might have taken from his words.

Dont worry - look around - there are MANY private whitelist kick servers with only 1 player, or 2, or sometimes as many as 5.. there are A WOLE LOT OF THOSE SERVERS...

So just join one (pay your dues or join the clan, whatever) and you won't ever have to worry about other players ever again..

Enjoy

Wasn't there almost same named topic few days ago?

Didn't find it on the search, go ahead and find me the topic if you know.

Private hives only exist in the mod.

* Any attempted private hive is still part of the official public hive.

Hello there

You are micro analysing and making a mountain out of a molehill.

Im sure during his life Dean's said lots of things that are incorrect or are taken out of context.

I am just stating of what I heard and trying to confirm of what he said.

* Thus I am asking anyone to correct my wording from rocket if I made any mistake.

I am not surprised people will come to rockets defense, it's to be expected.

I am sure you can filter my name under "Anti-Public Hive movement" on the DayZ forums.

Every server should just be private hive's in my opinion. Just need to fix the respawn first!

Hello there

It's not rockets defence Im coming to, but anyone who's micro analysed.

Im positive if you went through all my posts you'd find loads of contradictions of phrases which dont represent what I mean.

If rocket made a post explicity stating X or Y then thats one thing, taking a fragment of an interview and flagging it up as

"Dean Hall encourages server hopping"

Thats a very different thing to asking  about it, thats a statement. And the rest of your post is on that slant.

You're wrong. Stop.

He isn't saying, hop server-to-server to look for helicopter parts. He's saying find a server that has a helicopter on it (not the individual parts) and go contact those players, and take your parts either through diplomacy or force. There is a huge difference between server hopping and that.
