What do you think full modding support will do to DayZ

Recommended Posts

Modding will come too soon and will slowly but surely ruin the game. Even by the time it comes, the game will not be as feature complete as the mod was meaning it will turn into something even closer to a generic shooter compared to what happened to the mod. I always knew it would happen but it's disapponting to see Dean talking about modding being some kind of priority this early in the development.

You should really watch the road map discussion. Modding was being looked at Quarter 4, which is basically, around release. That isn't early development.

Personally, I think modding will enhance the game, but yes, it does bring a democratic element to DayZ. That is to say, what is popular may not be what you want in DayZ. Maybe not what want either.

You sir deserve some beans!

A lot of people bought this game because of Epoch. You can't have it both ways. A game with millions of players, but one that doesn't appeal to most of them.

My 2 cents...

Just look at Mount&Blade guys ! Some mods of the first MB have been added as features or core basics mechanics in the second episode by the dev team (naval battles, diplomacy... ) who still in dvelopment btw :()

It s a good example of how a community can handle making mods, IMO

Greatest example of why this will lead to dumbed down servers. 24/7 Daylight Servers already exist and are the most popular. The only method of making the game easier via the admin is already the most popular way to play.

Also: I know night sucks blah blah blah

You don't think the current visibility problems on night servers have anything to do with the popularity of 24/7 Daylight servers?

What current visibility problems?  You mean people throwing away their flashlights and bitching that it's too dark?  Or the gamma exploit?

I love night time man. Such a shame so many people hate playing at night. And the time cycle is broken anyway in stable atm. (only daylight even in night only servers. yes I will keep spamming this)

I was thinking more like how the beam of the flashlight shines right though the walls of buildings and screams COME KILL ME

I don't see a problem at all. Why is it so important to some that others must see DayZ the same way as they do? DayZ is many things to many players.

Plus... whitelisted private hives - less dicks, far less hackers.

I agree that we need private hive servers to stop server hopping but I must say no to full modding. For now.

I'm fearful it will just be the DayZ mod all over again. Vanilla and all the difficulty (hardcore included) will vanish and yet again it will de-evolve into a subpar deathmatch game with zombies.

The problem is that this community just can't control itself and doesn't actually seem to really care about the survivor horror elements (despite what they say). Server providers will encourage it because they only care about traffic and it will just spiral out of control again.

the dayz sa is already a subpar deathmatch game with zombies. that is why the vanilla servers will be deserted when modding happens. as long as there are massive amounts of kos (and the completely childish bandits everywhere)in vanilla, mods will outshine vanilla servers. that is just how it is, and the standalone is no different from the mod in this respect.

The SA is also at most 20% complete. Hell people are bitching already because of the infected interfering with "their" pvp. So yes the pvp and the game is subpar because, guess what? It's incomplete

it doesnt matter if the game is 100% complete. the point is mods do not chase people away from vanilla servers. the players do. if there are no mods, dayz will end up a dead game, just like the dayzmod would be right now if it wasnt for the player made mods for it.

I really think that it will add some cool mods to the community as long as we have our vanilla servers i dont see one bad thing about it... I'd perosnally like to see some map with only horses and no military loot :) returning to the medievil (spelling? :D) will just be so awesome! i wanna ride around my horse fighting other survivors with swords :D i know its lame but i would do this when for example my mates were not online to play real DayZ....

Rocket said in the roadmap that they're going to let the community "run with it" when it came to modding the game, citing the MOD as an example of what has been done. If I remember correctly this led to very few people playing the original MOD for things like Epoch, Origins, etc.

So now it's pretty much been confirmed, what do you think about this?

Considering I'm running skyrim with 270+ lore mods, quest fixes, detail tweaks, ai fixes and tweaks, graphics fine tuning such as tree texture replacements, town 3d enhancements, the whole fn 9 yards.......

I'm bloody giddy as a schoolgirl with a justin beiber lunch pail packed with cookies and milk. Maybe a cheese dip and breadstick snack pack to.

The pure amount of amazingness that could be brought our way is simply staggering.

See, now here's the problem. You call it a "dumbed down server" but then recognize that night is completely broken right now. That is important to understand. Modding is only a threat if the base game completely fails to deliver.

So, right now, night fails to deliver. It is too dark in general. There is an easy way to cheat, which creates an unfair advantage. There is really no good way to play night "right" at this point. But, they are working on it. If they don't deliver a decent to play night, however, yes people will choose not to bother with it.

If you remove all but two guns per server, forcing people to use bows or flailing FPS melee, yes mods will kill the vanilla game. If you require someone to hop twenty servers to get the parts to repair a car, yes, mods will kill the vanilla.

See a pattern? The base game needs to offer a challenge, but still fun game-play. If it doesn't, mods will take over. Challenge can absolutely be fun. It can also just be completely annoying. So finding that balance will be key to keeping people playing the vanilla game once competition is available.

but what about people did with epoch, origins etc...they turned dayz into something more then just run and gun in some ways. I have a friend who is a game dav by day then by night he works on other projects. I introduced him to dayz and he loves it, when i told him about what dean hall said about the modding communtiuy the first thing he said was 'DayZ UK'. there are so many people out there with great ideas but it would take to much time for dean and the team to impliment everything they ask for, so thats why dean said he will let people run with it.

All and all i think its a awesome idea, having different varies of dayz will be cool and will be awesome to see what people will produce. :)

Agreed, i think the difference with this will be that this is the 'standalone' and not a modded military sim, therefore i think it will be a lot more tamer with the excess's on guns and vehicles and stuff.

One thing i know is that with this game i would not be straying to any servers that overdid it so i think we should be in safe hands and the modding wont be so overboard.

Modding will fix everything that is wrong with the game.

- Stupid dispersion

- 4th wall tpv fix

-  More depth

- Better zombies

- Better map that does not concentrate the action on one area.

- Base building

Mods will be what gets people to stay playing the game.

Maybe, i think you are getting a bit ahead of yourself there though. Lets give the dev team a chance to finish their work yet, they may solve all of those issues themselves.

Apart from the extra maps, at least not anytime soon.

Point im saying is regardless of stand alone ending up being amazing, the mod community would always top it somehow. They always do , always will the mod community for Arma is just amazing.
