Do Zombies Dream Of A Good Nights Sleep? (Zombie feedback)

Recommended Posts

Its not lazy to take inspiration from a mod or game that does something better then you. Its inspiration on what works, blizzard have been doing it for years and its kept wow as the number one mmo for near a decade. And rocket has the ability to not just ask creators of mods to let him use stuff, he can employ them to create it in DayZ sa and he is constantly banging on about ow if he could only find the right people.

And the pure surival game is now a myth, dayz is now how much bleach can i find to force feed to other players.

True on that first part, I liked it. But the second part is kind of like "what?". The people are the reason it turned into a kill everybody and force feed people fest. Do NOT blame the creators for the lack of intelligent people who stumble onto this game.

My feedback is I think they are the undead, thus they should - according to cannon, be able to take extreme amounts of damage to the limbs and body and only immediately be destroyed with a head-shot.

I think all firearms should do the same amount of damage to them across the board, they are not a real player with gear.

I suggest that the sum number of rounds to take a zombie down from the body is not ridiculous, there has to be a happy medium.

I also suggest you remove the jumping attack animation because it is buggy and silly.

Zombies don't jump, they don't climb ladders, they trip up and down stairs, as well as over fences and they also can not run for extended periods because their body is decaying with the virus that initially turned them..

No im not a game designer by trade but i have been playing with unity 3d, so i know how games are made basically. Dayz uses different engine, but scripting is similar. I am in no way a scripter at all, i find it impossible to learn, but speaking from experience, i have come across problems with my scripts, where adding an extra feature creates problems elsewhere. For example, my character controller, i had the walking, jumping, running and few others working properly. But when i started adding enemy ai, it wall went to hell. The answer from unity forum, by much more experienced programmers, was never to focus on a single item in the game. Everything must be a place holder, it is easier to spot and fix errors, and when it comes to errors, a wrong letter somewhere in your 10 page script can cause hell. Its simply easier to have everything in place before finishing the game.

Thanks for that, always good to get a better understanding of things!

They hit like trucks now, aggro from too far away. They ruined 2 vests and 2 TSKO jackets yesterday, each with 1 shot.

...

Also, combining the zombie patch with the "combat logging fix" results in a lot of unfair and unecessary PVE deaths. It's causing people to log back in dead or unconcious because zombies are aggroeing out of nowhere when you're seemingly safe.

Also, you need to remember that this is a game. The phone rings, the doorbell rings, people still need to take a whiz and make coffee, etc.....With the way the zombies aggro and do damage now a lot of angry deaths are going to occur when you put a 30 second timer on logout....Internet connections get lost, etc....There's lots of ways people are unjustly dieing.

I wish there was a way to conteract combat logging that doesn't involve getting people killed by zombies. A lot of the time it's happening while not even trying to log out but drop dropped connection, game crash, etc....

today i was in a forest, not too close to a little town , and zombies started spawning and running to me from all directions, it was a nightmare.
im  a old player from the beginnings of the mod, and i never seen that.
they RESPAWN TOO FAST AND RUN TOO FAST. in the mod they ran fast but never reached the player, now today they reached me and made me bleed in no time.
developers should slower a bit the speed the zombies run and the speed the zombies respawn.

OK ,  before the last patch the zombies was just decorative, but now they are harder than the mod, way harder. also we have
NO STEALTH to do, so, i would love they add the old stealth system were you had a chance to move undetected if you have the patience.

They are invisible too sometimes, SupahZombies with SupahPowahs from Kenya[TheyRunAsF!@#]! My idea from zombies is the slow one that walk in crowds and when u see one down, you can get grabbed on the foot because they are not really dead, just lying on the floor. Also It would be awesome to tear apart the zombies corpses. Yeah, mutilation would be great!

I hate that zombies...In my opinion the "real" zombie look like this from The Walking Dead. They are stupid, slow, and dangerous only in groups. Now zombie run to me from kilometers...;/

DayZ is better than Infestation, but in my opinion those zombies from Infestation are cool.

What I really want is hordes of SLOW , STUPID but PERSISTING  zombies. There should be at least 2 or three hordes (spawning from ship/heli/bus wrecks) roaming the map. Bad luck if you run into them.

So ,the danger should come from their NUMBERS not from their speed (speed is in my opinion a rather easy solution to make them more dangerous, not very creative, and it doesn t work, if you have basic skills they are still just a nuisance).

Imagine looting an empty house , suddenly surrounded by 25 zombies because you just wasn't that careful this time.

Of course "zombies walking through walls and doors" should be resolved first, giving us the option to LOCK the sommbitch's in. Would be fun to see some bandit entering the house I just used for my collection.

My point is there to busy patting themselves on the back. Who knows whats going on, maybe the mod just isnt able to stand on its own as a stand alone game. There are no objectives for players to compete or team together with beyond the sadistic natures it pulls out of people due to trying there hardest to find a reason to play. There are plenty of things they could have pulled out of the hat like putting basic vehicles in before now without the polish etc.

And i know they are doing it but its like they had no plan on what todo with the game in a structured maner, the roadmap is more like a target to reach possibly maybe. We have been in alpha for 2 years and the mod was within arma before that. Even done badly would be good and would be acceptable because we are in an alpha. Just look at epoch and what activitys that gives to players and to suggest a group of modders can do it faster then a set up funded team is just no eligable.

Even dynamic events would be good at this point just by utilising the zombies and nothing else.

This has not been in Alpha for 2 years. Plus, the modders all they had to do was write a couple scripts AND just add in items/other scripts from other ArmA 2 archives within that same engine.

Modding is not game development, pretty much everything in the standalone is original and made from scratch which takes time. If your waiting for quests and missions your going to be waiting a long time because hopefully they will never happen. Epoch is its own thing and doesn't resemble what dayz is or is trying to be. I've played epoch and while I got a few nights fun out of it, it soon became pointless. I was never afraid of players because I had so much loot hidden away in a safe only I had access to, vehicles were not difficult to obtain and everybody had one. All you need to do to survive is kill a bunch of dumbass ai soldiers and sell there guns for whatever you wanted. It feels like dayz with hacks, everybodys flying round in personal choppers and building ridiculous eyesore towers out of wood.

I would like to see some dynamic things though like chopper crash sites or abandoned survivor camps.

Oh and it hasn't been in alpha for 2 years, and this thread is about zombie feedback not what the many care bear dayz mod mods do.

Rocket left mod development just after standalone was confirmed, claiming that he would focus on the game development.

If that's not 2 years, i dont really know what it is.

stop hijacking the thread. Fast zombies are great, now you actually have consequences to firing your gun in town, and if you have a gun out zombies can catch you. They are still easy to kill so its not such a big deal. More threats than other players make people play the game in more enjoyable ways

Right, but that doesn't count as alpha dude. There are stages to a game making process and Alpha is like the middle part man.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Software_release_life_cycle#Alpha

pre-alpha/alpha is first stage of development, anything from the scratch to what we have now can be called alpha, as they were testing the game all the time, as we can see on the devblogs scattered around the forums.

Well, Alpha equals to A, when A is the first stage B (Beta) is the second and C (release) is the last one.

You clearly dont know what you're talking about.

This game is for 2 years already in alpha, accept it.

dude, have you played infestation lately? i think it's actually better than the current standalone situation. they've even implemented cars and 2 new maps.

Ironically, they're actually fulfilling their promises, while the uber hyped standalone is not.

Pre-Alpha is when the game is first on it's legs (Baby) , then Alpha is like when you have all the limbs and a head (Kid), Beta is when you have all of that plus your clothes but no Sake yet (Rebellious Teens). Then comes the release where you have all of that and your Sake, Pizza Rolls, and your lovely favorite ice cream (21+ Adults). That's the stage of game development. You need to go to a Design school man or go read up on some internet article. Damn, even reddit will teach you more than some Wikipedia page.

What is ruining the game right now, it's not the amount of Z (that's great), it's the way they spawn right next to you. If you clean an area, it should be free of Z for a while.

They're also a bit too fast while they're running up a hill.

to be honest i think we need some kind of dynamic missions, roaming NPC Ai, or something a bit more to give it the edge.

The current zombies I agree with what most say, reduce their speed to between where they were before (slow jog ) and now (fast sprint) , more of a slow run would be ideal...

Damage they do is good, just need more of them, slower, and further away spawning.

Sees are relatively easy to deal with 'as is' one a player has acquired a reliable offhand ( axe, hoe, ect) but up until that time they're nearly unmanageable.

My suggestion would be to reduce their spawn rates with 1k of the spawn points to give fresh spawns a chance to gear up or group up before going inland.

The speed of the zombies is perfect, I like that they can harass you while you are running away forcing you to stop and deal with them. Obviously the insta ruined status needs to be sorted, along with a few of their other bugs. The pathfinding bug can be funny sometimes when you see them scurry across the road then turn to come get you a few seconds later.

I know that the zombie respawn mechanic is just a temp placeholder till numbers and the proper respawn can be optimized and added.

Seems that some like them fast some like them slow, why not both? Some are fast some are slower?

Zombie speed is ok but some zombies, not all, don't make a noise when they are near you or maybe they just respawn right behind me and I don't even know it. Which sucks because I get hit and my stuff gets ruined. The zombies have eagle eyes so stealth is not an option. They still go through walls and doors which is really a bummer. How hard is it to make the walls.... Walls?

Also, since the zeeks are faster can we make quick inventory items in our hands faster or at least take it out as we are running not slowing down?
