I think the zombies now are more annoying than dangerous, i mean you cant even have a gun fight without 16 of these things coming at you nor loot a dead body lol. I suggest zombies respawn every 5 minutes or something other than instantly!?

I like it, it simulates aggroeing a crowd of zombies when firing a gun without actually having to ruin FPS by spawning an entire crowd at once. Fixing suppressors is what they need to do here.

This is how dayz should be....grrrrr. Fire a gun anwhere near a populated area....high chance of death. I carnt see why so many moaning threads....did no one expect to die to zombies in this game. If your still pulling a train then fall back away from buildings into the woods......swap to mele so you don't pull more. It should be like this....firing a gun in cherno should result in a never ending wave of zombies draw to the sound. Only way to stop it is to go quiet. Even then it wont stop strait away, you will have to dodge or finish the ones still arriving from your last shots.

 

Didn't you guys see those doodle rants for the mod. Dayz should be die 20 times to zombies before you even find a gun! Not find a gun 5mins after spawn and be rambo kitted for a zombie clearance mission. If you want to go take on zombies with a gun, you will have to work for it. 

 

Even in the mod if I went to a city to have a zombie battle id leave good stuff in a tent somewhere. Just take an LMG with a lot of ammo and a couple food/drink. I fully expected to die....if not to the constant stream of zombies....then to the bandit that followed said stream of agro to find and kill me. Point being getting agro is always a bad thing, learning to avoid, or contain it when you do agro one is all part of the experience (not continuing to fire after the first shot pulled zombies is a good start haha) ;)

 

Did they even fix the hearing? or can we still just walk on concrete right up behind them? Wait till your very footsteps will draw a crowd....making stealth a real game aspect :)

 

PS agree that collision is bad, but just imagine if they did follow buildings properly....because they will eventually....its gonna be EPIC :D

It needs more work definitely. Right now i feel like the speed increase is a lazy attempt to make them stronger. There were other ways to do this but this would mean zombies would have to be there main focus first over hunting and cooking and all this other crap for awhile.

 

Im surprised so many ppl like this magic teleporting instant respawn crap.

I like how it is, maybe just not the number of zombies that come after you.

 

the only reason I think it should be left alone at the moment is it stops people from shooting at others, because the person being fired at doesn't have to run from zombies, they run from bullets, and the people firing have to deal with the zombies they attract from the shooting, making them eventually stop shooting at the guy they were shooting at.

Yes, it needs to be reworked. Although it's a placeholder, the concept of spawning zombies pre-aggro'd and within the sight of the player is laughable.

 

For one, if relied upon to "simulate" aggroing a large group of zombies... it really doesn't allow for realistic "threat assessments" on the part of the player. It'd be too formulaic if I went into a relatively unpopulated area, fired, and was immediately accosted by an infinite number of zombies.

 

Even if they put an artificial limit on how many zombies can be spawned around the player, it's still highly formulaic. Go into an area, fire, kill 20 zombies, you're good. Rinse and repeat.

 

As opposed to just having large amounts of zombies be spawned in the world already, which allows the player to assess the situation and make a judgment based on that assessment of how to approach the situation.

 

But first and foremost, they need to revamp how zombies draw aggro. Zombies now rely almost solely on line of sight to draw aggro, which is a mistake (and contrary to Rocket's description of zombies as having poor sight but amazing sensitivity to sound). Likewise, they do not respect tangible changes in distance, silhouette, movement speed, and other factors on the part of the player.

 

Simply put, with the current (and previous) zombie mechanic, there's only two options... run away or fight. There's no third way, meaning stealthily sneaking past the zombies (making oneself vulnerable). Stealth is non-existent in the Standalone. It was essential to some of the earlier versions of the mod where zombies were difficult, I remember having to crawl into every town just to loot. I'm not saying everyone should HAVE to do this, but it should at least be a viable option. Whereas now, whether you're prone in a bush or sprinting across an open field, zombies aggro you regardless.

 

That needs to be addressed before they up the count. Tweaking the spawns is fine, and I suspect it's the main goal of this tweak. But it raises the overall number of zombies encountered by the player, even when the zombie-player interaction mechanics (i.e. aggro and damage-dealing) aren't finished/good. Nevermind that it's a bad approach to spawn zombies within 100m.

 

I have no issue with zombies being a threat. I've advocated for it for a while. But the current status of zombies isn't anywhere near what I had wanted, and am glad it's a placeholder for something else.

I think it's good even with gunfights. I like to take The Walking Dead as an example, in that show the gun fights are always short and quick and afterwards they have to deal with the zombis that they attract. Firing a gun is a big decision and you have to take the consequences.

 

The following are TWD examples up to the current series:

 

In the second season when they captured Randall they had to fight his group and were swarmed with one of their attackers being killed by zombies.

In the third season when they attacked woodbury they had to fight zombies in their escape when they didn't have to fight them before the attack.

In the latest series when the governor attacks the prison and blows it up the prison is taken over by a HORDE of zombies making everyone flee.

 

I like the way these simulated what a gun fight would be like in a zombie apocalypse with the survivors always having zeds on the back of their mind's.

Current respawn is fine - needs other work in where they spawn, pathfinding/physics correction, how they agro (allowing more stealth options),LOS tweaks, and then MORE please.  They way it is works better than before - as they are now actually part of the game - it just needs to be enhanced, which is on the developers radar obviously. 

 

Drop that second primary and join the game that actually now has some zombie related tension.  (Not perfect, but anyone expecting that at this point needs to be alpha'd)

Works just fine as the placeholder it's intended to be. Zombies will be back to useless with any sort of longer respawn.

 

We know a more robust respawning system is down the road.

I think that it was suggested that zombies would spawn in the woods and run up to the town to replenish the zed pop on it.

People voting for 5 mins should got to the game that has them 'never' - pick up any copy of Arma and enjoy a pure PvP experience. It includes more bang for you PvP tastes and you dont have to be troubled with Zeds period. I honestly think a lot of people are just playing the wrong game when they don't want to be 'troubled' by Zeds...

Anyone misses the zombies from the mod? I think they were great, you could sneak around them (they don't have good sight so as long as you are prone you are good) but if you make nosie like firing a gun or running over a solid surface they would aggro instantly. Of course with the amount of guns and ammo in the mod and the OP hatchet they never are a threat but if they were somehow buffed they could be interesting in SA.
