KoS in relation to the new spawn mechanism of Zombies: Good or Bad?

Recommended Posts

Good, you'll be the visible one then and the one's the zeds go after.

Trust me, some psycho tried to shoot at me the other day in experimental. I ran and even aggroed some zeds. You know what happened? Even though I aggroed them first, they went after the guy that was shooting at me.

Lets just say I still heard shots going off well after I made a safe getaway into the forest.

Trusty buckshot to the legs normally stops them running away to agro more ;)

Complaining without ever played the game. Lol.

Commenting without a brain lol

Its not a complaint it’s a concern, huge difference mate but I guess everyone gets there in the end. I did not realise special needs school was out until you posted now that is less of a concern  and more an insult ;) just to keep you right!

Trusty buckshot to aggro all the zeds in the area you mean? And have them respawn on your face? Zeds will always go after the loudest player, so one lying on the ground would be safe until you died. Shooting them would cause even more to spawn, running would too...

I currently don’t have the pc to play it, rocking a November 2004 PC here that has done me proud. Watching a twitch stream is as close as I can get just now. Just bought a split new Car that is arriving early next month from the factory and as you do I went a bit silly with the  toys in it.So the new high end PC is later in the year probably after summer now when I can appreciate games again when the weather packs in.

Really looking forward to this and the new Elite. I wanted BF4 to be the BF i'd always wanted since BF1942 & 2 but its not by the looks of it. Even Sim city that I bought more years than I care to remember looks really poor and so watered down and small. So I have High hopes for Dayz.

If I've just shot you in the legs to stop the zombies from eating me, do you really think I am going to hang around to watch?

Defeats the purpose of using someone as a decoy.

disappointed Dean would allow such a poor system to arise in a game with such promise. I live in hope this is not the case having never played the game yet!

I imagine the zombies will make their jobs easier in some respects and harder in others. Sit in a campy hole someone high, shoot at a poor sod minding his own business, laugh maniacally as the target legs it away and attacts every zombie in the area. Then suffers as the rest come to him spawning all their mates on the way.

You got it, this will bring a new "trap-like" tactic where making noise will see swarm of Zeds coming for another player nearby!

The mechanics don't work like that. Yet. Just by that first shot, you'd have aggro of all zeds within 200m (not approximate). By running away, you'd aggro even more with the sound of your running. You wouldn't have time to bandage if you got hit once before a zed spawns on you. You're not safe in a town, or even on the outskirts as zeds spawn in fields near towns now too.

Have you even been playing recently?

Kneecap a fresh spawn. Zombie problem solved.

LOL! The perfect solution.

There's so many zombies now they can finally be considered a threat, which means a real reason to team up with people rather than make noise by shooting them.

No way. They are sheep still.

They can start to be a menace when and if:

- humans move at normal speed - read Arma2/Arma3 speeds

- zombies move faster

- zombies hit harder - knock down

- roaming hordes ( avalanche effect result of new respawn code if devs want to work with it )

Zombies can only be regarded as a menace when they are dangerous enough to ensure some sort of loose cooperation between players so they ensure both survive or none does, if they choose to fight each other.

Considering I play deep enough north, I've had zero issues with zombies. More interested in surviving the elements on rationed food and supplies, then coast humping and fighting barrack rats.

Bring on the snow!

Teaming up ... to fight zeds?

See, what you may not be considering is the more in your party.. the more zeds can spawn in around you. So teaming up is only good to an extent..

I see the zeds being more of a reason to go solo.. also more of a reason to kill other players as looting is much more difficult than shooting someone, running around for a bit to shake the zeds and then going back to loot his body before the 10 min timer..

I really see KOS becoming much more prevalent.. just give about a week, and people will start to adapt. Watch.

That's cool though I doubt you would need to ration. There is a lot of foodstuff added in this patch. Plus people never go north.

You have a good point. People will adapt in how they want to play.

I think its going to be a mix of more KOS and teamwork. Very interested in seeing how the dynamic changes - but looting a building doesn't cost you ammo and risk breaking legs at a bad time. I think it's going to morph over time.

I can definitely see a rush to Elektro where Bambi's are looting Bambi bodies fallen by the Zeds. Especially if they drive the player count up.

Ive not noticed this, ran with 4 people and easily dispatched them even with guns

Spawned about 5-6 zombies at a time, does the same for me solo so I must be missing something

At the moment you can avoid being punched by the 5 zombies following you by slowly walking in a circle, it isn't often I get hit. Then you slow walk your zombie pack across your new friend and wander off. Zombies change agro to the closest person at the moment, which is why you need to run rings around them while a friend is bandaging, or the idiots re agro on him kneeling there.

As a bandit I continue to kill on sight regardless of the zombie count or difficulty. Not sure why zombies would matter when it comes to kos.

^THIS^

We don't kill people for their loot we kill to make them cry. Zombies spawning doesn't effect people running around shooting every one they see with no intention of looting them 1 way or the other.

Only thing I can see this effecting is the kids who have such a lack of life they are able to camp on a sniper hill for 6 hours straight to kill the 3 people who go near them in that time which there wasn't much of in the SA yet anyway. And I guess when I break people's legs to feed the zombies they will die a little faster?

They didn't change anything about their AI or pathing; they are still ridiculously easy to basically just ignore them.

I do think this change will affect all players, KoS or not.  I noticed the zombies just never stop spawning and auto aggro you when they respawn.  So unless you're at extreme ranges, I would think shooting a player in or near a town would cause you trouble unless you caught them after THEY aggro'ed the zeds.

But I had to get a good ways out of town and kill my pursuers to get them to cease spawning.

Zombies last time I watched had little impact on the game, if anything a low level annoyance like midges that are around. Yeah some do lash out and some get hit. The players enjoy them certainly not seen anyone having a heart pounding moment over any Zombie.

The game seems to kick in when someone sees players not in their squad or group. If a fire fight happens and you’re injured or out cold then the Zombies are a problem.

What personally I’d love to see is Zombies that are capable of making you think they are a real problem. Path finding, Ai, disease threat and how they actually detect you need to be spot on to make it all come together and work.  We already know the PvP aspect of the game works well and what most people are interested in. Certainly the best moments come from human  v human contact as far as I can see when the game runs ok without lag etc.

I don’t want to see wave after wave of Zombies to balance the threat out. You should be able to clear an area. Spawning zombies out of thin air after you have just killed some in the same place just seems wrong to me. I always hated in BF2 that a squad leader could enter an empty Bunker and because squad members could spawn on them you could have a constant stream of players leaving the bunker as if entering out of thin air.

I’m sure Dean and the team will focus more and more on Zombies as time goes on.

Some KoS opposers passionately stated that more zombies will lead to less KoS.

Agreed. Though a lot of people are moaning or slighly annoyed/bothered by it.
