Some suggestions to improve gameplay

Hello!, I've been playing for weeks and I want to share some suggestions I have. I know that Dayz is on alpha stage and I know too about searching on this forum. This thread is about gameplay and not only 1 suggestion.

 

If you like some suggestions please share your opinion about it to improve gameplay and find real solutions.

 

Shall we start?

 

Important:

 

 

  • Know who are our friends in combat.

​          - Green name on the top (like every MMO out there).

          - Green circle on the ground.

 

          // This is really important, we keep asking "is that you?" all day to everyone. If we know who are our friends in combat, gameplay will be more effective. 

 

  • HP bar or Health bar.

         - At the bottom of the screen where the fast-shortcuts are.

 

          // We need to know how is our health all time, will be helpful to survive.

 

  • Be able to choose where to respawn.

         - Visible map to choose where we want to respawn (maybe not for cities, but near spots or cities too).

 

          // This will be a huge change, the world is bigger than Elektro and Balota. If we can choose where to respawn the enviorment will be more balanced and not only 1 city.

 

  • Be able to add friends to steam.

         - Right-click on players screen -> view steam profile.

          - Add one option to action-menu where hide-body is -> view steam profile.

         

          // Will be great to improve gameplay and network, making new friends or enemies.

 

  • Time in-game (server time).

          - Bottom-right on the edge or near the hp bar or even on the top-left.

     

          // Great to know the respawn time.

 

 

Not "THAT" important:

 

 

  • Different climates.

​          - Hot high temperature: Thirsty more often, exhausted, run slower. Visual effects as well like no clouds and "water illusion far away". Wailing sound on our character.

          - Hot normal temperature: All normal.

 

          - Cold low temperature: Hungry more often, numb, run slower. Visual effects as well like snow or snow storm. Breathing animation with "smoke"

          - Cold normal temperature: All normal.

 

          - Wet heavy rain: Sick more often, hypothermia, run slower. Visual effects as well like heavy rain, poor vision and water drops with some blur on the character, real rain. Sneezing.

          - Wet normal rain: All normal.

 

          // This will improve gameplay and the enviorment to survive. Wet stage could appear together with hot-high or cold-low or alone if there're normal climates.

          // We need to know the temperature, maybe with new gear or maybe on our interface in-game.

          // Wailing, breathing and sneezing will do noise and other players can hear it, great for inmersion, gameplay and enviorment.

 

  • Traps, all kind of traps.

          - Bear trap: Broken leg.

          - Landmines: Dead.

          - Baits: For players or even wild-animals.

          - Rope traps: Restrict movement.

          - Wokitoki: Voice trap (I know that there're wokitokis in-game but not really sure if they're working).

          - More.

 

          // Traps are really good for inmersion and improve gameplay, even the enviorment. New strategies for survival.

 

  • Doors lock.

          - Maybe a global key for some buildings or special item to lock some doors and unlock as well.

 

          // Will be awesome to lock and unlock some doors, great for inmersion and gameplay.

 

  • Binoculars.

         - Low-range: Not big deal.

          - Medium-range: Normal loot.

          - High-range: High loot 

 

          // Gameplay will be more smooth, great for inmersion.

 

  • More tools to fix ruined/badly damaged/damaged gear like scopes.

​          - Special tool or even new individual parts to fix it.

 

          // Not easy to find it but easier than finding new gear.

 

  • New clothes, weapons, gear.

​          // This probably will be added soon, but is not good only 3-4 weapons in-game.

 

  • New food/drink/etc.

​          // Same here.

 

  • Trains working.

         - Maybe a way to fix it and use it or maybe all time working (only with a player "drive").

 

          // Great for travel long distances for now (new vehicles will be added soon).

 

  • Better nights.

          // We always avoid night, and is frustrating. Where is the moon?, the real moon do some reflect from the sun but here is no vision at all 100% black.

          // Would be awesome to have some "electric building" and can turn it ON/OFF at night to have at least some public light at the streets or not.

          

  • Gear stats.

          - Boots: Add +5 to movement speed - (high-end loot).

          - Gloves: Add +5 to accuracy to any weapon - (high-end loot).

          - Glasses: Add +5 to vision - (high-end loot).

          - Kevlar vest: Resist 5 shots - (not on the head / high-end loot).

          - Helmet: Resist 5 shots on the head - (high-end loot).

 

          // Some examples of what I say, stats on high-end loot will be great. Also stats will change depending on gear condition.

          // Pristine = 5 stats, worn = 4 stats, damaged = 3 stats, badly damaged = 2 stats, ruined = 1 stat.

 

  • Molotovs.

​          // Be able to turn on fire a building would be extremely awesome (server respawn will fix the building).

 

  • Thermal sensor and night vision.

          // Great for survive.

 

  • Red name on bandits.

         // Red name with 1 hour cooldown per kill.

 

  • Achievements.

​          - Survive X hours.

          - Kill X players.

          - Loot X gear.

          - Locations.

 

         // All kind of achievements like other game out there with A LOT of achivements, small, big, easy, hard.

Oi not to discourage you but quite a few of these are a bit too "arcade". For example your idea of marking friendly people with green names and bandits get a red name is kind of unrealistic (personally I want some simple way to mark players that you team up with so you can tell at a glance if they are your buddy keeping in mind a game doesnt allow high levels of personal details which allow humans to figure out one person from another.) However the bandit markers are totally unrealistic, in real life when your walking down the street you dont see a giant IM A MURDERER name pop up on some guy.

 

I am for some way to tell if someone has done some naughty things, for example you might see blood spatter on their clothes and hands this I feel is a nice sudden way for people to try and figure out if someone is a crazy murder.

 

A health bar im totally and completely against, health can easily be approximated by seeing how blurry your screen is, not to mention I dont have a life meter in the corner of my eye.

 

Choose area to spawn im iffy on, while I wouldnt mind a sort of general "spawn near so and so city" (limited of course and not right where the city is)

 

I dont want any silly + to stat items either gloves and glasses dont suddenly make me more dexterous or smarter.

 

Aside from that most of these ideas are fairly solid and should be included.

These suggestions do not agree with what DayZ aspires to be. All the things listed as "important" will never come into the game. Gear stats and that kind of achievements are also never going to happen. As is the red name thing. Basically the rest is what will be coming in the patches come summer.

Gloves doesnt work for anything, glasses Id like them to cover sun rays as well as hats and caps. boots naa same shit. helment covers 2 shots from a large fire arm from a distance and more shots from low caliber bullets from a shorter distance. There are not kevlar vests yet in-game.

How do know your friends in combat, 

 

- remember how they look like ( if you are in a team then have some sort of team clothes to make yourself more visible for eachother ? )

- Communication is always the key. (use teamspeak, skype or whatever with whoever you are playing and people wont be able to hear you unlesss you want them too)

 

Too many wierd world of warcraft suggestions. Cmon a green ring under a player ? that would make the game feel so bad. 

 

- achivements +1

- hp bar +1

- Spawn should always be random, i think spawning should be 100% random on the map.

- more food, drinks and weapons, clothes, etc. More items is always nice +1

In the first section everyone can notice you play too much RPG

Respawn location isn't RPG thing.

 

Add friends isn't RPG thing.

 

Time server isnt RPG thing.

 

HP bar, not everyone. Just our character, and watch our health "healing" by "healthy buff".

 

Know our friends is important. In other games, there are "no friendly-fire" clans, factions, etc. Here we have friendly fire, and isn't good killing friends. Other solution would be the chance to add some unique cloth or even a flag to "groups".

  • Trains working.

I'd love to see trains up and working but they should be somewhat endgame (Trust me, I'm an Engineer Brakeman in real life, you're not just gonna hop in the cab, push a button and pull a leaver and be off).

 

  • Better nights.

You're settings are probably wrong which is why you can't see at night (Not talking about Gamma, there's a setting involving the sky that if it's set too low you won't see the stars/moon at night.

What's powering the lights?

  • Gear stats.

Meh...gear will have atributes (IE raincoats keep out the rain, ballistic vests are bullet resistant) but not outright 'stats' (+2 Perception Beret)

  • Molotovs.

Would be nice

  • Thermal sensor and night vision.

FUCK NO and maybe, in that order.

  • Red name on bandits.

You must be new around here.

 

Most of this isn't going to happen. Ever.

There will be no health bars, there will be no respawn options, there will be no name tags. Learn to tell your friends apart by looking at them. Make everyone wear bright red caps if that's what it takes. This isn't an MMO, you're going to have to work for things around here. If you're going to tell your friends apart from anyone else, it's because you made the effort to memorize what type of clothes they're wearing, and because they let you know whenever they change their gear.

So you don't think everyone won't just use it to instantly respawn where they died or, otherwise, back in Elektro or Cherno without having to travel? Do you use your brain?

I made a nice, concise list of the super-nos for you; things you should never, ever again mention here.

Also, with your "gear stats" idea: You're being too RPGey. DayZ is a realism-based game. Boots don't "add +5 to your speed" in real life, especially because boots are big and clunky. They're more likely to help you grip to the ground better and be more durable. Gloves do not "add +5 to your accuracy", because we don't have stats for players and gloves do not make it easier to hold and aim a gun they can actually make it harder sometimes. Also, walkie-talkie, not wokitoki. Unless your whole post is Pidgin English.

No offense but one of the most out-of-touch-with-the-game topics I've ever seen.

Sencha I can say what I want. This are suggestions, you're not the developer and is not your game, never say never.

 

bobotype3334 if you run with a poor pair of shoes you have no problem at all?. Now, when you run with new and sport shoe you run faster and better, right?

 

Gloves +5 accuracy, if there're some low temperature a good pair of gloves will help you to aim. Worm hands -> better aim, numb hands -> poor aim.

Alot of suggestions. 90% which I don't like and which are never going to be implemented. This is a game made by Bohemia Interactive, not Blizzard or activision. Name and health bar? No. You can know your health by seeing the vision change. Real life health is not measured by a health bar. 

 

In-game clock? No, they will release watches to the game, just like in ARMA, where you can see the time.

 

Stats? Oh yeah, when I put my cap on I get +5 intelligence....

 

This is a survival _simulation_ not a regular MMO.

 

I have nothing against players who are not used to Bohemias ways, playing DayZ - Easier people to kill in-case you get caught in a gunbattle.

edit: How serious you may be, this will be regarded as a clown-troll-thread. It's like saying that football should be played with a basketball and that you should be able to use your hands.

It is not your game either, so don't act high and mighty.  Most of us actually listen/read what the Devs do post.  Rocket wants there to be risk, if you make 'bandits' clearly visible as well as your friends easily distinguished from everyone else there's almost no risk, shoot anyone who's not green or on your friend's list soon as their health bar shows up.  Confusion and friendly fire happens in Real Life.  If I can't hit the side of a barn with a shotgun a pair of gloves isn't going to automatically help, hell a pair of mittens will make it HARDER to use the gun.  There won't be stats on items, there will be attributes, shoes/boots will protect your feet from injury (when it's implemented) not give +5 Speed, raincoats will keep off the rain (for the most part) not give +5 Water Resistance, gloves will protect your hands, not automatically give +5 accuracy just because you're wearing them.  Most Kevlar vests are compromised after the first bullet, helmets don't magically block 5 shots (again, lucky if you can stop one)

I can't even believe he said a helmet should resist 5 shots to the head....Imagine firing off an entire mosin mag into someones head and he just sprints away after. I'm sorry you took the time to write all this OP, most of it is worthless and the rest of it you could have figured out by yourself that it will be implemented down the road.

I was thinking the other day that it would be nice to have visible rags on your character where you chose for team identification eg two rags on left thigh so every one has two white stripes on there left leg or whatever combo you want. No one wants blue on blue in there team. Any thing like names and rings would spoil the aesthetics of the game. Also if you see someone with rags on them chances are they are in a group who may be well hidden or covering them from some where.

Maybe they could implement something like in the mod where there are different skins for bandits and heroes but needs to be more subtle maybe you can chose your gear like normal but bandits heroes and grey men have slightly different aesthetics on each item I have no idea how it would work that's why I'm a mechanic not a dev.

I really like the idea of traps in game especially when camps are put in.

I would like to see traps for small game rabbits and such large game boars and dear.

Large game other players

Punjy pits would be brilliant ( broken legs, bleeding, and sickness infected wounds if spikes are smeared in shit)

Victim and operator triggered IEDs

Trip wires pressure plates

Trip flares would be good too

I will try and be polite as possible, as many posts here have stated why majority of your suggestions do not belong in game. The top half of your thread is clearly out of touch with the dayz concept, and what it is renowned for. Your suggestions, as thoughtful as they are will not improve game play one bit, but rather hinder it, dramatically. Same goes with a couple of suggestions in the not important parts ie stats, buffs and red rings for bandits.

 

If you are finding it hard now, it is only going to get harder as we further along throughout the development process. Example, the cross hair. That will be a thing of the past, clean water from lakes, forget about it!

 

I am sorry I don't agree, I usually wouldn't post and just ignore a thread like this. However you are new to the game and forums so I think you will be getting some major hate from this, so keep your chin up and take it with a grain of salt :)

 

It is what makes dayz  unique, embrace it for what it is and stick to it mate!

No, lets skip it, most of it is coming or highly unreal.

  • Be able to choose where to respawn. (No, death should be bad and avoided by all cost. And everyone would just spawn at NWAF or right where they died to kill your killer)
  • Be able to add friends to steam. (You can already add them in the Steam client)
  • Time in-game (server time). (No, find a clock or lock at the sun. To arcade)
  • Different climates. (Suggested a million times)
  • Traps, all kind of traps. (Suggested a million times)
  • Doors lock. (Global key? Realy? whats the point locking a door if every player with a key can open it?)
  • Binoculars. (Soon to be ingame)
  • New clothes, weapons, gear. (On the way and ALPHA)
  • New food/drink/etc. (On the way and ALPHA)
  • Trains working. (No. Because: No electricity and driving a train takes skill which an average human do not have)
  • Better nights. ( The moon is not always full and theres no electricity beacouse all power plant has stoped working(which they will without anyone loocking after them))
  • Gear stats. :facepalm:

 

  • Molotovs.(Suggested a million times)
  • Thermal sensor and night vision. ( On the way and shoud be extremly rare)
  • Red name on bandits.(NONONONONO!!!!. To arcade)
  • Achievements. (Suggested a millon times)

 

 

A lot of them are way to arcade for Dayz which is a realistic or authentic apocolypse simulator. And a lot of the suggestions are suggested a million times over (learn to search)
