So... in the past four weeks, I somehow kept getting killed surpisingly often at wells or fountains or whatever they're called. Tulga, Balota, Kamenka. (Elektro and Cherno wasn't that surprising.) And a couple of other small towns as well. Most of the times I was able to hear at least a gunshot, other times it just goes all black and 'you are dead'.

 

But seriously - is there someone sniping at popular "gathering spots" like fountains instead of stalking rooftops now? Seems like a nice strategy to KOS, you don't even have to be that far away in most cases. But it just has picked up so much in recent weeks that I am starting to wonder...

 

Anybody else had this happen? Or did anyone actually try to snipe folks who are looking for a drink of water?

If you try the spigot in Kamyshovo or the one in Elektro, you're probably going to get attacked.

Yeah, I mean High Kill Zones are a given, I just used them because I was really dehydrated (after getting killed by the fountain in... Kamenka and respawing in Kamyshovo, I think.) But in Tulga? There barely ever is anyone there and maybe I had just bad luck that day, but it's just really happened a bit too often for comfort.

 

Someone hiding in a nearby house? Probably. I mean, who is such a fountain hogger? I'm not really annoyed by it, I die all the time anyway, but it just seemed to increase a LOT lately. Fountain Police? Water Security?

ill snipe at wells, but i dont camp them. only if i happen to be in the area, but i dont hover over them waiting to pop people. id rather catch them on the move, on the road. more sporting that way :)

 

then again, the well in elektro thats in plain view from the hospital? you deserve to get shot if you try to use that and you dont have a whole crew providing cover.

It is a lot easier to hit a target standing still. Wells are a good place to find them.  They could also have been watching you for some time and then took the opportunity when you stopped to drink.

I have never had this experience though.  I've been shot at a well few times, but never sniped from afar.

 

-Scan tree lines, tall buildings, and windows with LOS on the well before hitting them.

-Don't linger at them... eat food, rifle through backpack, etc

-Hit it and quit it

 

The better your situational awareness the safer you'll be. 

Of course sometimes you will still get shot regardless of what you do.

As a new spawn i only ever hit the well for four quick sips and then leg it, takes about a second and a half to get four or five in which gives you enough to run most of the map while giving ole snipey a minimal still target. Wells are the new Elektro hill.

As a sniper myself i usually don't shoot a target until i have an upportinity to be 100% sure i'm going to hit.

 

Those dudes that killed you may just have stalked you waiting the good moment , then you sit to start drinking => "boom headshot"

I usually strafe around the well in a zig zaggy circle.... Even if I'm way out in the wilderness and its a low pop server.

At the moment I just find a nearby pond and run around whilst looking down to drink at the same time.

 

If running to the ship you can run through the boggy area look down and hammer the F key to drink.  You'll be full by the time you arrive, even if you were on empty.

Welcome to the Deathmatch Permadeath KOS Standalone.

 

You might as well shoot everyone on sight.  There's no benefit not to do it.  If you don't do it, you'll end up dying a lot.

 

They should implement a humanity system like the one in my signature below, that would at least BALANCE out the hero vs KOS bandit gameplay.

Theres more than enough streams lakes and ponds in the inland area that u should never need to go to a spigot ever

I'd rather not get in the habit of using the random nasty water on the side of the road, I only drink from fountains and bottles. I've never been sniped at a fountain that I can think of but, my character most stays hydrated and only refill canteens at far off villages.

Tulga? That arse-end of nowhere? I didn't think people actually WENT there, much less took the walk to kill people. Damn, that was my favorite spot, too, up in it's own little valley...

Technically, the water pumps should either be drawing water from a well or directly from an aquifer. Such water would be safe, unless there was a chemical contaminant in the ground already, which would fuck up the water throughout the water table.

Well, as of now, whenever I drink from a pump, the game says I drank from a pond... I have no idea how they're gonna eventually solve this but it doesn't seem quite safe...

Probably just fucked-up text, or recognition. I hope that is all it is, because there is a SERIOUS difference in water quality when comparing wells vs surface ponds......

Yes, that's what I think too. If you are filling up bottles / drinking from a pump, it should be at least somewhat safer than drinking from a mucky pond (still water - more bacteria, flowing river, if ever implemented, less bacteria etc.)

You know, if it was a problem before... after enough bandits see this post, it may become an epidemic. 

 

Because that strategy is so easy street there is no way people will not catch on. Almost everyone I know hits the water well if its nearby.. gotta top off the hydration tank! And since people routinely stay at the well for at least 30 seconds, still in one place drinking.. its like the easiest shot you could take. 

 

Im glad I find playing that way to be cowardly, otherwise you all would have a serious problem with me after reading this. Id be stacking bodies at the Elekctro fountain all day long. But since I play with a bit of honor, I just my try to hunt players that are camping wells now. :)

'Surprising'? How is this surprising? It's like the place you can most reliably expect to be attacked, aside from stupid places like the ATC tower roof in Balota or something.
