Why Private Hives should be limited when they become available

The DayZ Mod is a clear showcase of what can go wrong when you give players the ability to change the starting loadout, spawnrate of loot, and the ability to spawn in items. Private Hives on the mod ruined the game for me. Why? So many servers with SELF BLOODBAG - 5000000000 VEHICOOLS - 204032350 HELICOPTAS - SPAWN WITH SNIPER & NVG. So many of them. All near full. Barely ANY vanilla servers, on the public hive, that had players.

 

Throw in the fact that server owners end up selling gear to their players, spawning in weapons and items for them if they get some real life money in return, and you have a problem.

 

Donating to many servers results in pay2win style advantages. A good bit of mod servers do this.

 

Though I love giving the community the option to modify the game, I'd like the plague of Private Hives like the ones in the mod that frankly took a shit on the purpose of the game to be avoided this time around.

I totally agree with you, there is no good vanilla servers  on the mod anymore, every server you go in will have 5000 vehicles spawned, with a military grade starting gear.. and most crowded servers will have donator features as well. 

I do enjoy private hives and the ability to slightly modify the mission file ..but the community has abused this in the mod and I don't see why they wouldn't in the Standalone.

 

That being said, I miss the good old days where there wasn't 400 sub mods of DayZ and heavily modified mission files on the Vanilla version.  :(

I remember killing a guy who had a guile suit and a DMR, seconds later, he spawns on the coast with a guile suit and a DMR again.

Didn't play the mod that much but I did assume it was something like what you described. I definitely don't want THAT to happen to this game.

I have nothing against donator features beacause it helps servers pay the bills, but ... yeah spawning with a ghillie and DMR ruins the whole point of the game. If I was owning a DayZ mod server, i'd probably have a donator loadout, but it'd be something like...

- Spawn with a little bit of food drink

- Spawn with some additional medical supplies

- Spawn with a better sidearm than the "non donators"

And perhaps a better backpack, but that would be it as far as donation perks goes. :)

Imagine joining the server and you immediately have a fully operational helicopter sitting there on the coast.

 

Or having a SH*& ton of barracks added to the map.

 

It ruins the atmosphere and makes it truly feel like... wait for it... Call Of Duty

lots of people like infitity vehicles and spawning fully geared.

 

the modded servers are an example of dayZ mod players not liking the vanilla branch.

 

server admins adapt and profit.

 

i have no problem with private hives.

 

i have no problem with admins selling loadouts for donations.

 

i just don't play on those servers.

If I had donations on a server, I would only allow people who donate to have maybe a headlamp instead of a flashlight, anything that gives that player an extreme advantage, I feel, should not be in Dayz.

 

Better yet, make a no micro transaction policy in Dayz SA!

It was when I first started off the mod that I encoutered this blasthemy!

 

I prefered spawning on the coast with:

 

-Painkiller

-Bandage

-maybe a flashlight

 

Rather than:

 

-Winchester

-3 slots of ammo

-blood bag (self applicable)

-a glock with ammo

-3 bandages

-a fully cooked steak

-and a check backpack

 

this is pretty much defeating the purpose of survival completely

so couldn't you just separate the characters from the private hives and the public hives much the way experimental and stable are separate here? never played the mod, saw a ton of vids (which prevented my playing the mod) and I would have to agree some o that stuff was a bit over the top.

Defeating the purpose of survival and giving donator perks makes it a pay to win deathmatch in which people have even less a reason to be friendly because there is no reason to be.

 

I like having KOS in this game, it would not be fun without it, but the fact that it becomes a deathmatch defeats the purpose of struggling to get gear, because there is no struggle.

 

Dayz deathmatch server = COD deathmatch server

The problem is that people gravitate to the path of least resistance. Despite all the belly aching about how hard this game is, people adapt and overcome.

When private hives come out that tweak features, even juuuuust a little bit, the majority of people hop off of the public hives and into private ones.

My friend stopped playing the mod because if he wanted the true, real DayZ experience he had to play on servers with maybe 5 or 6 people, 3 of which were usually hackers.

Amen, This is EXACTLY what happened in the mod, If I were BI, I would make private servers have very limited options because what happened in the mod was a joke.

Oh I see, makes good sense and that would kinda suck. I find there are a ton of empty to low pop servers for stable already.

I'm going to play devils advocate here and say that people should be allowed to run private servers as they see fit. This thread smacks of why-doesn't-everyone-play-it-my-way-ism. I played vanilla 90% of the time and I never once had an issue finding good servers and I don't believe for a second that anyone else couldn't either. If people want to play with loads of vehicles and loads of weapons then surely they are exactly the kind of people that you don't in a vanilla game.

i never had to run 20km to a small town across the map to beat someone to death with my fists in call of duty.

never had to stop and eat after a 30 frag killstreak

When you remove that choice, people either have to deal with it or play a different game. Considering how many people play this, despite all the bitching, I doubt forcing this experience will be an issue.

Now, if you splinter the community into 5,000 servers with their own character data, it hurts the community as a whole.

I don't bitch about KOS, Yet I feel having servers that give donator perks, adjust spawn rates, etc. changes the survival aspect of the game. That is wrong, and affects the public hive as a dirrect result

alot of dayz players like dayz but not the whole "dayz" part of it.

 

sometimes you're just like "fuck it, i wanna drive a car for a while and not care, i'll join a modded server...."

it only affects the public hive by decreasing their population and getting the noobs out of the vanilla branch

 

i think its postive for those who want vanilla with a vanilla player base

 

nobody likes staight vanilla the best, not even in dayz
