Summary of dev Q&As from streams

Recommended Posts

Hmwell.

So the machete will get a buff/change?

But i really have to say, that Wolves are, often not a too serious danger to humans. They become serious however, when there's not enough food, winter, or their "area" becomes too little. but actually, none of these things is in DayZ. there will be bears, deer and rabbits, so there's food. The map is pretty big, so they don't have to fear a small area. and there's no winter, too...

So i don't understand, how they should be a real dangerous threat ;)

But i'm curious how this will turn out.

Dogs and Wolves... ;)

  • Beards may not get in due to being to gender specific and too much work.

This was disappointing but hopefully we can get a guy with beard in the character creation like in arma 2

Machete will get buffed it seems

Wolves: Yeah, but well you know...Authenticity and realism in video games (even that ones that want to reach a certain level of authenticity) is always a thing of consideration ;) ...i think it's better if packs of wolves are a danger as additional predators (especially since i don't get my infected apes in the woods :( ) than sticking to the "wolves are no danger to humans in most cases" authenticity - just my opinion.

Dogs: Really want to see this. Can I tell my dog to attack somebody? Can i tell him to search for things (fruits...things he could smell) in an area and apport it? Hopefully the next streams give us some more answers or ideas from the devs on this, even if it may be not so close to implementation ;)

Beards: Since there will be a greater variety in face customization and beards will not "grow" >:( <_< :( I think that beards will come in character creation.

A buffed machete would be really cool, yep.

One, two hits to the head should be deadly for both, zeds/infected and humans.

Maybe we find a blunt one, but are able to sharpen it?

Maybe we'll be able to sharpen(=repair partly) damaged melee-weapons, like machete, ff-axe, wood axe, knive, bajonet?

and u are right.

Sometimes, realism in-game =/= Realism

Because you dont get sick, just by being wet/cold. Cold/wet just makes it easier to becomse sick.

Maybe you could have more than 1 dog. I'm really really curious, what happens, when me+dogs meet a pack of wolves.

Repair things: That was exactly the exampkle Dean talked about when I mentioned this:

Skills: It will mainly be passively skillbased. So as you get better at repairing certain things, you will be able to repair more and more badly damaged stuff. It won't be something you'll put a skillpoint in. It will only be the more you do it, the better you get at it

So maybe it starts like this: You find a badly damaged fire axe and have a...hm...grindstone and water? something like this, maybe a gravin knife ....but you can't fix it, because you jus't don't know how (maybe additional the axe handle is splitting and you'd need to replace it by finding another handle/whole axe...maybe with a ruined axe head?)...but you can repair worn/damaged ones...and if you're good enough (see quote) you can repair badle damaged/ruined ones as well...

  • Currently in 3-4 week update cycles for stable branch.  This should be the expected time frame for updates to Stable branch for the foreseeable future

Hope that patches, after 3-4 weeks, will be pretty meaty  :)

Well, we just have to play experimental/watch what is on there ;) But yeah, considering the time given that rocket and his team needed by now for various content, i think that it may be bigger updates...especially if all the new members that were (are?) hired since release "get into it" and are more of a help (not trying to be mean, but working as programmer I know that dilemma of coming to a half finished project and finding a way into it pretty good -.-)

I suspect that wolves in a post-civilization world would have a very different relationship with humans than they do now. Wolves are no danger to humans in most cases, at this point in human history. There's a reason we fear the dark, and it isn't monsters.

I'm a little worried when they mention skyrim style bow play... Hope they have a damage multiplier for the head/chest

Bump because I linked this post to the changelog thread. Too many questions already answered here, so not everyone is seeing it, I guess.

Just curious, but why? Bows in Skyrim were pretty much perfect.

Like I had said in the post, in skyrim bow damage was not modified by where you hit on the target. So, in the skyrim world, a hit to the face was the same as a hit to the foot

Or the knee, as it were.

Sorry, I'll see myself out.

Mh, I guess he meant the way that you are shooting and not the way that hits are resolved.

Because as rocket stated earlier, it is possible for the game engine to determine exactly (and since it's arme it's really exact for a game I guess) where a bullet hit (and an arrow too) ;)

If I miss a stream (and don't even know that one was made) please let me know^^

This is awesome, +10 points  !  Can we sticky this in the Suggestions Forum? I think it would be fun enough for people to read that they actually would, and maybe trim some of the zombie clipping threads, etc.

The way dean hall says 'bear' really grates on my nerves, you're talking about an animal not an alcoholic beverage lol.

That is all I gathered from the stream, the rest was zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

Very excited for campsites and base building! And especially hunting, that will make the game just that much more survival based. Im also very happy they are focusing on civilian weapons, makes it much more gritty and that much more realistic. I can wait for cars, but can't wait till we can create camp sites and actually build a home :)
