Experimental, is it worth it?

Recommended Posts

Okay, so, I was thinking, is it worth playing on experimental, I know it'll be super buggy, and random stuff can happen. But, my idea is, when I die next on the normal servers, I switch to experimental, and test out all the new stuff. I just want to know if a lot of people play experimental. It's already hard to find loot on normal play, will it be easier to gear up, and test out the features on experimental servers? I'd love to help with the testing process, coz, well, as we all know, there's not much to do on the regulars. I've helped new-spawns, sampled banditing (not my style) tried big squad play. I feel there is nothing left.

Bottom line is, is it worth going experimental?

Hi.

I haven't played on experimental for a couple builds. I would like to, but my experience then, was that you spend more time refreshing the servers trying to get a open slot than you actually spend testing.

Regards.

Oh, klesh has a new Avatar. While clicking on the Beans-button I realised you were one of the Ghostbusters and had to look closer, because I didn't recognise the Avatar. :D

But like klesh said. If I jump on, I am on the experimental build to test out what could possibly come in the future.

I've had a lot of fun with experimental lately.

Switching is just a matter of seconds, maybe minutes depending on your internet speed.

If it comes down to it, there is no shame in taking a break.

I've been playing experimental for about a week. On hardcore servers. I mean, there aren't that many servers but it's usually between 15/50 and 50/50. I have always been able to get in to one. It's fun and haven't had that many weird experiences.

I use experimental branch to reset my characters that are stuck dead because of glitches in standard branch. Other than that I recently I wanted to try out high population servers. Unless you have a particular change in mind that you want to experience, it's not worth it.

Can't get on experimental because there are no servers in my region. All the experimental servers have +500ms pings. :(

I just realized there are two branches to this alpha, and that stuck me odd.  Here I knew it was alpha and I would be filing bugs and it has a fraction of the features the mod has, but I wanted my front row seat and here was in coach?  Experimental has the newest features and I can contribute more if I get to try them before they enter that nebulous area of stable alpha.

Why are there so few experimental servers?  Are the devs afraid of too much attention there too?

Experimental servers have the opportunity to be far more buggy. Other than that enjoy, you can freely switch back and forth if your willing to download the 'patch' each time.

The exoerimentals have been great for me.  Today was the first time I've found a hardcore server that actually had players on it.  The gameplay is smooth and I have found no bugs, yet.

The major problem with expirimental servers is that they are all picked clean by the server hoppers. I die from hunger A LOT when running from coastline to places like NWAF and trying to find loot in buildings north of cherno is useless. I prefere regular servers because then the server hoppers dont pick EVERY server clean.

I quite like the experimental servers but with there being so few of them you can't expect to find much, they're usually rammed with players.

The "eat all" features, plus the new buildings, some bug fixes, etc, etc are nice. I haven't had any problems with the current experimental. Not alot of servers available is the only reason I play on stable.

Ive noticed that most people just hang out in elektro and starve to death on the fuller servers lol.

The experimental servers give you a quick look at the next update and they are always full if there is some very interesting features added. When vehicles get thrown into the experimental one day, you probably wont be able to even join them.

My internet connection is horribly slow so I just play on the stable versions. If you can download huge files quickly then you should go for it.

lol wtf, Even playing about 5 hour's after restart and managed to survive and prosper just fine, maybe it's something wrong with your playstyle.

Experimental is good, the main thing to note is there will be bugs when it initially goes live, but due diligence on the part of players filling out bug reports, helps clear them up so it's less buggy when the patch goes stable.

Until the experimental build goes stable we @ TMK won't be touching stable.

Experimental is smooth and with a great deal of bugs and exploits fixed.

Also there is always action everywhere.

There are some issues... alpha issues, but it is worth all your time for sure.

I tried out experimental for the first time last night and it was a lootless wasteland!  :D

Looted the outskirts of Berezino, then went to Dubrovka.  Every building had been looted thoroughly.

I ran around for an hour and found one can of tuna someone had missed and a motorcycle helmet.  The good news was all the zeds pretty much had been killed.  However this does raise the concern that if zombie respawn comes in before loot respawn these servers are going to be brutal!  All the zeds and no loot, heehee going to be doing a lot of running!  :D

I've never had a problem finding loot. Even in 45-49 person servers. Maybe try smaller towns and also there's lots of times I've logged onto normal stable servers and had all the loot gone.

Take away: there's the same amount of loot and roughly the same player to server ratio so probably just bad luck.
