alexeistukov 272 Posted February 14, 2014 That is impossible... The T-34 that is mounted on that monument would probably of add ALL of its firing, control, and movement mechanisms removed. It was met to be a monument of the Red Army's Tank Division most likely, but not to be taken and repaired by people later. The tank would require so many parts in order for it to get it working even it was added. It is a useless suggestion, and i usually don't say that, but this one is truly useless is every way.
Awruk 216 Posted February 14, 2014 It's not even a tank. It's a casting.
IkaikaKekai 1957 Posted February 14, 2014 (edited) Good luck finding parts for that empty shell, if it even is/was a real tank. Not to mention getting it down from it's pedestal without breaking the tank again. Edited February 14, 2014 by BigMike

janol 65 Posted February 15, 2014 Yeah, well. I want to repair and operate that ship near Berezino. Needing some scrap metal and a welding torch. Or maybe just duct tape.

Like, a tank would be very OP and kinda dumb IMO.Especially one that everyone knows about and will go for first.Tanks just don't belong in DayZ IMO.

The Chernarussians would of probably used light tanks to APCs to transport soldiers and have maximum firepower to contain the infection and or rioters that would follow with the infection. There would probably be a few left around still after the outbreak, but the chances of finding one would probably be extremely rare.
DerDuderich 149 Posted February 15, 2014 (edited) Well, it's surely a stupid idea to repair a tank that was obviously meant to be a memorial. But there are several other broken down tanks around the map. I don't see why you shouldn't be able to repair them same as cars. They just have to be implemented the right way so they aren't OP:They should be harder to repait than carsIt should be hard as hell to find ammo for itThey should need WAY more fuel than regular vehiclesThey should move historically slow, which means at most 1/2 the speed of carsThey should be really, really loudThere need to be weapons which are capable of fighting tanks Edited February 15, 2014 by DerDuderich

janol 65 Posted February 15, 2014 Just for the record, I have nothing against tanks or similiar vehicles being in the game. After all, you would find them in military bases, wouldn't you?

blackberrygoo 1416 Posted February 15, 2014 It would be cool for one of the three or so static tanks (not the monument ) to be repaired and driven around I would say that the ammo should be non existent though . So if anything this tank would just be the only "house on wheels" (before they add rvs if they do) and a death trap if you run out of fuel in a zombie crowd. So hell I say lets do it I would love to see( and hear) a guy ballsy enough to take two real days to repair a tank come rolling through Cherno/ electro , it would make a great conversation piece for the time being :). And like I said a great place to hide/ protect yourself maybe with a little escape hatch at the bottom of the tank (I think it's usually for making repairs but could be used at an escape route if someone's waiting for you to open the top hatch ). So we shouldn't consider it for any of the first vehicles and IMO it should never be able to be shoot , maybe just the machine gun but I can see it being op with a team of bandits being buttholes in a tank even with just a machine gun working . The tank cannon should be working.. what is the use for a tank if you don't have a working cannon? The APC would make up for the machine gun you want lol. A tank is designed to break through heavily armored positions and destroy armored vehicles/other hostiles.
Pandema 352 Posted February 15, 2014 I'm fairly certain the tanks in those statues are not actual tanks. And if they are, they're missing everything necessary to operate.
alexeistukov 272 Posted February 16, 2014 Im talking gameplay wise not lore wise.IMO, tanks don't belong in this game. Tanks do fit in this game though. It would give players a variety of different vehicles to choose from other than the helicopters, trucks, cars, atvs, or other types of vehicles that may be added. The tank could be used to bust through heavly fortified postions (either hero, bandit, or just the regular band of survivors). It would be so useful for clans trying to build basically a small PMC too. The tank would be extremly hard to maintain in the sense of the amount of fuel it would require, the ammo rarity (plus how you load it into the tank cannon), the ammo could not be functioning, you would need to repair the tank every so often, etc. More difficulty= better survival. Pandema 352 Posted February 16, 2014 It makes sense for their to be things like tanks and APCs. Yes, but then you get the problem of dealing with the tanks and apcs. To deal with them you add AT rockets and then everyones running around with rocket launchers killing eachother and blowing up cities and it all spirals out of control. It'd be realistic but it'd be a pain in the ass gameplay wise.
