Neutral safe zones that physically prevent combat

As far as I know the team wants these sorts of things to be player created.

 

Once we can build fortifications, tents, etc I could see myself organizing such a thing on my own server. Having it raided by bandit groups from time to time could make for some pretty awesome gameplay.

I see your point but I find it a bit too optimistic. In the mod there was the same expectation. That after some time people would team up. But that never materialized. And the only groups I saw so far have been people that are trusted friends already outside of the game.

 

Also the whole minimalist approach of the developers for "forcing nothing + 100% player decision" does not work out when it comes to a realistic representation of a zombie breakdown. The game models basic needs really well and the fact that humans are very dangerous creatures when society falls apart but the desire to socialize is not modeled at all.

 

And the unlimited PVP is not a great piece of design work, it is simply them dropping the ball on the bandit system. All it took for the current PVP gameplay was to remove the part of the code from arma2 that flags your friendly fire, thats it.

Its really, i mean really early days (no pun intended). If the devs are as half as bright as I think they are, you will see vast and sometimes subtle changes that will affect player behavior.

 

I really wouldnt think of this in the same way as the mod, especially as Dean left the development of it to concentrate on the SA and whilst the mod does go on its a very different beast on a very different path.

 

You guys dont have to have the faith I have and indeed I dont expect you too. But if the game was going to be pure KoS/PVP I wouldnt hang around, I have stuff to do too.

Excellent idea! They could force players to shoulder their weapons when entering a city and turn off friendly fire within 2000 meters. Maybe there could be some NPC traders where you can buy mystical weapons like "Blazing AKM of 1000 Rounds", and Guildmasters with optional quests ranging from "Zombie Assistant" to "Bandit Bean Trials".

dont blame your lack of interaction on the game.

 

it was the interaction with other players that led me onto the path of a medic, and many of my colleagues have followed a similar path. we met each other through the game, and talked on direct first. socializing doesnt need to be dumbed down by a game mechanic. making real friends in real life requires more effort than "right-click -> add to buddy list". and i think this works out pretty well. i met many people in the mod, with some of them i still have contact although they dont play the game anymore.

 

i wouldnt mind certain features that would emphasize interaction. the ability to leave persistent notes for example. but just because i cant write letters doesnt mean i cant socialize. and the fact that trust needs to be earned, and there is no system preventing backstabbery, makes the successful interactions so much more valuable and rewarding in the end.

Obviously you guys already travel in large clan groups using TS and have no need for socializing. But fact is the game is seriously lacking any form of socializing with players you dont know. Because risking my hours/days worth of loot against the slim chance of small talk with someone is a shitty bet. And this lack of social interaction except for 500 million torture tools rocked adds regularly  is just as unrealistic as a HUD in your face all the time. Because in real life people have the need to socialize at some point. And the game is not modeling that.

 

DayZ is not a socializing game.

DayZ is a game for antisocial people.

This would ruin the whole aspect of DayZ and as others have mentioned it would turn into a camp fest for those leaving these so called safe zones. If you've ever played WarZ/Infestation or seen videos you would see it happens quite frequently there. You think KoS and banditry is bad now? Wait til' you see what would happen if something like this was implemented.

There was a thread just like this posted a ways back.  The overwhelming response is "get the fuck out, filthy casual peasant."

 

So.. um.. get the fuck out you filthy casual peasant.

 

AKA I fully openly protest this idea. 

 

If you want "safe zones" have people in your server set up and enforce a zone that trading and civility is encouraged. 

 

Alternatively, go play WarZ lol they have casual carebear safe zones where no combat is allowed for people who don't want a hardcore experience.

Isnt there already at least 25square km of safe zones already sure they arent game enforced but i am sure you can find a nice spot for your guild meetings???

I love the WE ARE NOT WARZ crowd.  You realize that this game is VERY close to WarZ right?

KOS is the only real play style

You have to eat / drink

There are campers everywhere in high traffic areas, regardless of if it's a safe zone or not

 

I could go on, but I really get a chuckle out of the WE ARE NOT WARZ nubs.  If you'd played both, you'd realize they're extremely similar.

1. Camping outside a safezone is not a bad thing. EVE has pirates camping the jumpgates to highsec space. It is a major part of gameplay getting past pirates.

2. Right now there are already camp fests. And its called "ALL of chernarus, especially where many players pass through"

Also for the guys who think they are bohemian artists that are too leet to play warz or mmo games:

 

The same things that make DAYZ so fun have been established in the mmo games you hate so much. Loot gathering and player progression were first tested for mass appeal in the most commercial as fk mainstream games funded by evil large companies who sell dlc for puppy corpses.

 

(I play all COD games and bought most of the dlc so suck it)

 

 

Dayz is as much "loot pornography" as diablo is.

This isn't EVE. Nor is all of chernarus a campfest, it's not physically possible.

they have safe zones in the mod (right?). I think i remember hearing that they're going to implement some kind of trading system... It would be very difficult to have a trading system without a safe zone.

Ehem.... EPOCH DOESN'T HAVE SAFE ZONES!

Now some server admins have added safe zones tot heir Epoch servers, but MOST don't have safe zones. 

Some of the craziest times I've seen in Epoch are when someone decides to raid a Trader area. Had a plane fly over head while a friend I were at Klen. We were already interacting (non-violently I might add) with two other strangers, one of us keeping a weapon ready on them whenever they approached while the other carefully traded. Plane went over and everyone got a bit nervous and finished up what they were doing. It kept circling and my friend and I broke for cover just as a chopper came in and started dropping for a landing. One guy parachuted out and after landing opened fire. My friend and I offered a bit of covering fire for the other two who were at least neutral and then slipped away as the bandits killed one guy and looted him. It was AWESOME!

You know warz copied the idea from and because of the popularity of dayz mod right??? and did a lesser job of it..

You realize this game is really close to CastleWolfenstein? I mean you have a gun you shoot things. Sometimes you lose health.  :P 

I can't imagine why a poorly made CLONE of the DayZ:Mod might have anything in common with the DayZ:SA... can you? BTW, it is the differences that makes WarZ a mockery and poor game.

If there were safezones then that'd be the tension out of the window straight away. I love that my near-'pacifist' nature in the game (I won't fire unless fired upon, I try and initiate dialogue before any shooting will go down) means I will have an incredibly tense time. I love that. A lot. Especially when approaching towns/villages to restock. It's one of the things I enjoy about DayZ.

As someone who generally plays alone, I can understand what your getting at, I personally don't like the idea a single bit, in creating a safe zone you will have every KoSer with a rifle, 600 rounds and a tent setting up camp, they won't be there to loot you the sole purpose is easy kills.

 

You'll also have every bandit setting up shop and robbing every soul that tries to enter/exit the safe zone, no gear better then free gear right?

 

You'll be creating a spot that is a magnet for the very people who are annoying the hell out of you.

 

Every now and then I shoulder my rifle check my supplies and take a casual stroll thru the northen lands where people have no reason to go other then get away for a while, the draw of interaction brings me back to the population after my break, usually followed by death.

 

It happens if you really want to trade with people, make some friends here, have a group of you meet together on a nearly empty server and congratulate yourselves on how nice you all look fully geared up you'll soon realize that without death looming over you the game feels a bit empty, then for fun someone will turn and start shooting.
