Any love for the PKM ?

Recommended Posts

I really hope the PKM is the first Machinegun added into the game. This is such an engineering marvel and easily one of the most common squad machineguns in the world.

In order to do the gun justice however DAyz would needs a complete re-haul when it comes to its shooting mechanics and how bi-pods work.

ACE style shooting mechanics are a must.

Pressing SPACE + Shift at the same time deploys the weapon on a surface, once this is done the weapon is snug against the floor or a surface, recoil is greatly reduced and the weapon is far more controllable.

So anyone else love this beautiful weapon ?

I love it as well and it would fit right into the environment. But all those people pushing for less military weapons would hate this...

Would rather see RPK, it can share AKM mags as well (30 and 40 round 7.62x39, maybe drums, or 30 and 45 round 5.45 if they opt for the RPK-74 I suppose).

Some people don't want it cos it's military, I don't care, it's a common gun and it fits the setting, it shoul be in, period. It should have its drawbacks, would you want to carry one around for kilometers every day if you could have a lighter rifle instead? Neither would I, it's meant to be used to support others and with support from others, a rifle or carbine would be superior for the lone survivor and the game should reflect this.

I think the general hate is for military weapons that would never be found in such an environment. aka fn scars, as50s, Barret 50 cals.

The pkm is extremely common and easily found in Eastern Europe.

personally, I also love LMGs. I love them in arma, and I love them in BF.

I DO NOT think I would love them in DayZ....

Yea the pkm would be a very specialized weapon, its quite heavy at over 20 pounds however it would be unmatched at certain situations.

For one the pkm would be insanely good for ambushes especially on light vehicles. The 50 rounds of 7.62x54r on its belt would shred a car to pieces and the weapon when deployed on a bipod is quite controllable even at long distances.

Not really, I personally want to see more civillian weapons because frankly, they should be more common. I don't want to see everybody and their mother running around with an AKM, and I don't want so many military weapons spawning around that civillian weapons become "trash loot" that people pass up when they walk up.

If we could get some sort of suppression system in place, I think it would be a nice addition.

As others have said, it's a common weapon to the region. More so than an M4.

The Akm is the common civilian weapon in eastern Europe and the Czech republic.

In the Czech republic for example the VZ58 in full auto is the most popular rifle.

LOL i want weapons in general far far harder to find (when they start making improvised weapons) but that certainly doesnt mean i dont want there to be any .... They should be rare but there and in great variety as such this would make a fine and fitting inclusion to the game.

I really want to run into surviver groups and get a feel for the length alive by seeing groups with melee and improvised weapons with maybe 1 or 2 civilian weapons (shottie or hunting rifle) then see the change when you find an experienced long lived group who carry higher end gear. Will that make the game fair or even perhaps not cause you know which group would win but it does make it authentic IMHO.

But hey if they are there you can always have luck and find one straight away i find that to be Dayz one life ya struggle the next everything clicks ya luck runs wild and before you know it you are fully geared... Every life is different....

Edit make that a plus 1 for ace weapon mechanics ( and realistic improvised ones like bows throwing spears etc lol)

People forget that the team can control exactly how many of each weapon spawn throughout all the servers.

So pkms being extremely common would never be a problem.

That being said the pkm is pretty common throughout the world. More common than the rpk 47 and 74 and far more common than the rpd.

Move slower while PK is equipped, can't sprint while equipped, can't shoot while moving, firing from hip only while standing, using ironsights only possible if it's deployed, overheating and finally rocket should add item weight. Bam. LMGs are now fine in DayZ. I would still carry one anyway.

Now that that is taken care of - MG42 when.

Put it in (or something comparable and equally plausible), as long as the ammo is extremely rare. Linked ammo wouldn't exactly be lying around in people's basements. I'd love to see someone waste 40 rounds that they took twenty hours to find, just for some ruined tuna. Assuming a scarcity of ammo becomes the norm at some point, variety could only help this game.

Never happen. Too many complaints with common gems like "overpowered" & "military items don't belong"

100 round clip. Nah. Just a bad idea to make bad players good. Sucked in the mod, would suck now.

And here lies the problem with this "community". Someone wants to add something to the game? Nah, better not. It's not like diversity is good or anything.

The pkm is quite heavy so I can definitely see it fatiguing the user faster. While it is entirely possible to fire the weapon from the shoulder the gun does not have a heat shield so it is impossible to fire it by holding it by the exposed barrel , the bipod makes for a poor holding point for crouch and standing unsupported fire. The gun when fired undeployed should have heavy sway showing the players fatigue. When deployed it should be really controllable that is when its deployed on the ground or off a surface. The game would be quite easy to "balance". At the end of the day if they make it realistic the gun balances out and even then the devs could control the loot chances anyway.

The Pkm comes is fed using 50 round belts these belts can be used over and over again.

SGMT%20Can%20With%20Belt.jpg

I also hate to inform you but certain ammo types are extremely common in large quantities.

The 7.62x54r for example comes in huge spam cans of surplus ammo that was mass produced decades ago all over the former soviet union.

Surplus-Polish-7.62x54R-Ammunition.jpg

That small case has 440 rounds and its dirt cheap.

Anyway they could have a cool mechanic where you combine the rounds with the belt and then after some time and an animation the belt gets loaded with whatever ammo you had on hand.

I understand the reasoning with limiting ammo availability in order to prevent kos but lets be honest limited ammo does zero does nothing to stop kos. If you give players 3 rounds for their mosin they will use those 3 rounds to kill a player.

Considering the loot % can be altered for any military grade weapon i think the more gun variety the better.  Sure they should be quite rare but finding one would be an achievement.

I thought they could even control it even further. I thought it was in their power to say spawn only 50 pkms across all of the servers if they wanted to.

Hence only 2 revolvers being spawned across all servers for a little while back.

This sums up my thoughts. granted what it really means is that you'll just get killed by an axe more often than a gun (Let's face it, being a dick is just human nature, it's only the concept of consequence that prevents the actual world from being like this game.)

I fully support the PKM being added as it's a beautiful gun that fits well with the setting. That said, as someone else said above me, there needs to be some serious drawbacks (I like the idea of hip-fire only unless prone, and no sprinting, make sense for authenticity, and game balance, because you have to ask yourself if the awesome gun is really worth an extra hour of travel time on top of what already a long as balls run from the NWAF to the Coast.).

I think once the game takes 'weight' into consideration when modeling how fast a player can move, adding things like the PKM shouldn't be too much of an issue.

It should be relatively self-balancing if a PKM with any serious amount of ammo slows a player down to a sustained 6kph or so.

Wouldn't be my choice to lug it around.
