Duplication exploit - need for global wipe?

By now I think that almost everyone know about duplication exploit and about 90% of DayZ players is doing it.

 

Most of us have seen duplication charaters parked near spawn zones. Scale of character duplication exploit is huge.

 

So huge that there is need for global character wipe in my opinion when the duplication exploit gets fixed.

Hardly 90% of the players are doing it, and if they keep fucking wiping characters due to THEIR lack of security and THEIR lack of internal bug finding, it's not going to end well for them.

Rampant duplication is always a decent reason for a character wipe.

 

Would love to fit it in with next patch, not the wipe in particular, but certainly the fix.

I have never heard of this exploit. But I have no issues with regular character wipes to prevent it. After all this is just the alpha.

Experimental .33 is supposed to hit stable Feb 5-7.

 

So expend all your ammo before you log out on the 6th.

Hi.

 

Did the devs actually announce they were going to wipe the characters with this patch? The last patch didn't wipe mine, the people that were wiped was the result of a servers connecting to the hive bug. I just lost a can of pop because it didn't exist in the newer version.

Patches only wipe, if there's a reason for a wipe, like if a duping exploit has been fixed and if said duping has been determined to have a sever influence on the item economy.

Character wipes aren't really necessary, just fix the dupe bug and the rest will work out in time.  its not like people can horde duped loot in tents or vehicles.

Just take a fireaxe and whack away at their body. If they are dumb enough to stay on it'll ruin all their gear.

Tried to duplicate myself on experimental servers and I failed, so that's a good sign.

 

Going on stable servers now to get me m4 and some ammo *wink*wink* becouse on new patch server hopping will be real pain.

I seriously doubt you have much basis to assume this. Speaking purely anecdotally everyone I know is aware of this exploit and 100% of us choose not to use it, for the same reasons we choose not to server hop or use other lazy methods to acquire gear.

 

As for the exploit itself, I am sure the devs are aware of it and I imagine there is a high priority on fixing it. This is exactly why we do alpha/beta testing, you may not like it but the people who found that exploit and are using it have done us a favour in the long-term.

Wasn't the wipe done before because people had spawned in loot that was causing servers to crash?

 

I have no problems with a wipe, but I don't really think it's needed if it's only to clear some dupers inventories. Seems like we're all being punished for the sake of a few.

oh, and expect wipes as needed when the devs see fit.

 

Not always when one may think they are or are not needed.

 

Dont get attached to your gear, especially in alpha.
