Fabik 71 Posted January 28, 2014 is the use of a 3rd party VoIP software. :) And no, I'm not trolling. And yes, I know this is a lost battle. ;) DayZ characters are not telepaths and shouldn't be able to communicate beyond what 'Direct Communication' allows. Oh and these cheats make KoSing an even better behavior to follow because you never know if the guy's who's acting friendly is not leading you into a trap. VoIP = gamebreaker
novogeek 253 Posted January 28, 2014 Not sure how you would prevent this. You could be sneaky and test for the Skype or TeamSpeak process and prevent the game from starting ... but is this legal, would it be considered invasion of privacy. This is a tough to even enforce ... and if it could be enforced ... would you want to. Not sure.
Gekkonidae 270 Posted January 28, 2014 I was going to say combat logging or ghosting, because these are fixable and even more annoying. I've played using TeamSpeak and without. Yes, with an organized group on TS against you, you're probably going to have a bad time. My advice is for you to do the same as those groups because you're right, it's a losing battle.

boneboys 7988 Posted January 28, 2014 Meta-gaming, dean with it. Loot maps, = cheat ? Meta-gaming, dean with it.
hoopman130 6 Posted January 28, 2014 i see your point. Although like it was previously stated, it would be hard to prevent this. I have a couple friends i play with and we just use steam voice chat.....so how would you be able to disable that seeing that DayZ runs through it?
OrLoK 16182 Posted January 28, 2014 (edited) Hello there I too think that TS is "cheating" as it doesnt allow for distance etc. What we need to combat apps like TS is a more robust and fun in game system to use. The problem is, if the devs make an amazing radio system, the "instawin" folk out there will just use TS and negate any radio effects. Tying the game into TS like ACRE might be a solution. But there could be a monopolies issue with that. (Ill need to chat with my legal team) I dont think using TS is as evil as proper cheating, rather I find it a shame folk wont use the in game viop. Its as offensive to me as Gamma "exploiting". ie..It's "bad practice" and "not cricket", but people will do it as folk are lazy. IMHO Its a shame IMHO. MadMags 32 Posted January 28, 2014 Most of the time spent on TS for me and the group of guys I run with is us talking absolute and utter bollocks. We do use it during encounters but more often than not we still end up shooting each other as well as the other people. And luring people into traps is all part of the fun. We only ever attack people who attack us but we'll happily rob gullible fools if they are too trusting.
Mos1ey 6301 Posted January 28, 2014 The game would undoubtedly be better if it were not for meta-gaming, but it's more or less impossible to prevent.
irl-calibre 744 Posted January 28, 2014 tbh I tend to find that we use DC in game way more when in teamspeak.. also use the radios in game as well.. everything is about effective coms, and given the quality of some of the opposition you face in this game (I mean lets face it most people new to dayz have no idea what they face really) people are going to talk.. seekeronpc 3 Posted January 28, 2014 What you're really saying is you play alone bro,get some friends,it hella fun !
Khad (DayZ) 293 Posted January 28, 2014 It actually is gamebreaking. Okay... not gameBREAKING ... but... it's not the proper roleplayway. But I will use skype as long as the quality of Ingamevoice is not as good as any VOIP-software.

Mags, if they actually jumped in our TS chat they would quickly realise that it gives us no advantage what so ever, infact, it makes it 10x more difficult in a fire fight, but hey, that's all part of the fun! :)

There is no way to enforce it. Also op if you know it is a lost battle why post a useless thread?

A properly organised team of players using TS would probably have some rule where only one person gives the orders and the others just say "Roger".. I know.. I've experienced it. There's no soul to it. Each to their own though. Edited January 28, 2014 by MadMags
jprime84 22 Posted January 28, 2014 Could they code such that the game will process anything picked up on a microphone as "direct communication"? People would hate this, but I bet its easily doable and doesnt require you to worry about whatever other apps they have running. If you dont want to make sound, you literally cant make sound, or you mute your mic.
TLa/-Elrico 9 Posted January 28, 2014 So if you play next to another person i suppose you'll have to face each other with headphones on and remain silent at all times? Hey, people alt tab and use the online maps with loot locations aswel. Should lock their computers on DayZ whilst its open to stop people from doing that.People have to shit too, stop them from having a crap, its not ingame, and EMAILS. Dont you dare check those emails you normal f#ck. Oh god, think of the complete loss of reality when Joe Bloggs tabs out in a bush to answer his mobile phone. THE HUMANITY!
Sinphaltimus 262 Posted January 28, 2014 What if you have more than one mic. For instance, mic on web cam and mic on headset? It's not do-able. People will play the way they want/can.
bad_mojo (DayZ) 1204 Posted January 28, 2014 Meta-gaming is so immersion breaking. Trying to work teamspeak and loot maps into my role playing is difficult to say the least. I rarely use either, but everyone I meet does.
Korsbaek 1778 Posted January 28, 2014 Bah, it is a game after all. There won't be a lot of players left if we can't use TS, Skype or whatever people are using. I know I would stop playing it. I also think the people who want it gone are the ones who play alone. They don't know how fun it is talking to your friends while playing.Running along the shores without anyone to talk to would be sooooo boring..
tomroadrunner 69 Posted January 28, 2014 I get wanting to role-play, but I can't believe there are so many people out there that think playing with friends is cheating. Ultimately we play the game for fun, and part of the fun is chatting with your friends while you play. I get the desire to play solo every once in a while, but one of the biggest parts of the game for me is shooting the shit with my friends while we make the long hike up to the NW Airfield or what-have-you. The in-game voip is so laggy and low-volume that having an enjoyable conversation is hard. You can't whisper or use sign language in-game either, so just pretend external voice is one of those two things if you're bothered by the RP aspect of enjoying time with your friends.
Grimey Rick 3417 Posted January 28, 2014 ...and then have your computer scan for other communication devices within its immediate physical vicinity and disable those as well. It's a game. I like to talk to my kid while we're playing. It's how we spend time together (I work 5,000km away from my son).
S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Rorschach 11 Posted January 28, 2014 the most ridiculous thread ive ever read among those other 99% of QQ about "being killed" or "the world is such unfair"-threads... move along, nothin to see here.
akafugitive 244 Posted January 28, 2014 (edited) Wouldn't the simple solution be to detect 3rd party voip and cause it to force in game direct chat?(or cause direct to be always open?) Then to reward using in game radios would be reducing direct chat radius while using the radio.Megaphones to increase forward direct chat radius would be nice also.Don't kill the ability to use 3rd party software just tie it in Edited January 28, 2014 by akafugitive
