DayZ's Sales Money

Recommended Posts

So during my recent DayZ session, I realized, I paid $30 for this, and over 1.1 million people have bought it, so I got the exact numbers and it totaled to be around $34,000,000 (yeah, 34 million 'murican dollars). Obviously a percentage of this goes to Steam for distribution and some goes to the payment of Bohemia employees, but where does the rest go? Just bank accounts to make shit tons of interest money? That's what I would do.  :D

I bet Dean is building a mansion on Mt. Everest. He climbed it just to find a suitable spot.

Better  think about publishers like EA  or Actavison which earn millions by releasing the same shitty game every year based on the same engine using the same animations  and complete cut scenes from old games , shutting down complete studios after release....giving a shit about supporting their games but selling stuff that should have been ingame in the first place as booster packs...

I think Rocket said he was looking to get a Maserati and herpes. That's probably where all the money went. And coke.

Hello there

Firstly, Im unhappy no-one posted my dayz 3d lambo. That took me minutes to render. poo

Secondly, the way the money is used is a little more complex than the OP has suggested. There's sooooooo many things that cost and need to be paid for.

What you might be asking is what happens to the gross(? or is it net, i always forget) profit that Bohemia makes as a company?

Well, you'd have to ask them I'm afraid.

Steam takes a (probably rather large) cut. The Czech Gov't likely takes a cut. The US gov't almost certainly takes a cut. BI just hired a load of people to work on the project. New offices to house them. A lot of the money will get rolled into current and furture development. Some of the money will get rolled around in by a buck naked BI CEO.

I would recommend doing some research on business. An answer on here would be difficult to give and many people who give out advice also have specific information from owning their own business in the past or are currently owning. Definitely not always and not all good advice is "good" advice.

34,000,000 is kind of an illusion.

Couple examples listed below.

Steam takes a cut

30,000,000 (just an even number for now)

Expenses

26,000,000 (just a random number)

After examples the real number is 26,000,000 (34,000,000 was an illusion of how much they made). That was just the total of sales nothing to do with actual profit. The margin in here can make or break it. This is also

a random number which would give it no basis and it could be much lower than that.

Future Expenses (one year)

22,000,000 (just a random number)

Now investments.

Open a route to a new project with the cash earned.

20,000,000 (just a random number)

Advertising - Why would this be an investment? You are taking a risk that this advertising company will sell your product to help you see future sales. Choosing the wrong company could mean the difference

of millions in many situations. With a single game I would say it wouldn't be so high, but it's possible.

BI = business intelligence. This is also an investment in itself.

One last area. I always see people get confused a billion in sales does not mean the company made a billion. It means they had a billion in sales. They received a billion for the products that went out the door, but this is where it could be tricky. This could be at a complete loss or just to help the company float in a rough time.

Rough example of it all. I am in no way a business expert. I am also not a lawyer. I am also not an astronaut.

I did once read an article on how to open a business and with my million dollar idea I will make trillions.

34 million? I'd give it to Peter Oei so he could make back what Goldman Sachs supposedly cost him for one dinner, and make a friend. Yep. That's exactly what I would do.
