Kiev Riots - DayZ SA Gear Inspiration

I'm not from Ukraine but I know there are riots happening over there. First of all, I would like to say that I hope things resolve there soon enough and that the uprisings bring good changes to its people. Neverthless, I came across this article on RT, which features a lot of pics of geared rioters, and I couldn't help but think these scenes fits DayZ tone somehow.

What happens in DayZ SA is that there is a lot of military grade gear, so most of the people I come across looks like they were taken from an average modern shooter. Don't get me wrong: I enjoy military gear a lot and I think the team did an awesome job with the models so far.

 

Even so, I would love to see the overall visual style of DayZ's itens matching this improvised, "military/civillian" mixed look.

These pictures even gives us some ideas for itens, like homemade riot shields, bike/motorcycle protective gear, molotovs, and so on.

Would really love to see different type of gas masks and helmets like the yellow worker helmet instead of everyone running around in a motorcycle helmet for protection.

After seeing these pictures I'd like the devs to add balaclavas, hard hats, knee/elbow pads, tomahawks, rain ponchos and more heavy coats (trench coats anybody?).

Yep, things like worker helmets are a must. I've visited a fair share of construction sites and port/harbor areas IRL (there are plenty of them in Chernarus) and using this kind of protective gear is a nobrainer.

What I want, balaclavas, and goggles. What would come really nice are balaclavas of different themes such as green camouflage, and the red punk anarchist one.

 

I too hope that a peaceful resolution comes to Ukraine soon. First it was the people demanding Ukraine integration into the EU, and now the anti-protest laws that were issued. Hope that no more people's lives get lost in the clashes :(

People need inspiration. There wouldn't be a lot of action games great stories and amazing artwork if terrible things hadn't happened such as the two world wars.

 

Also, haven't said it yet, props to the photographer who took those pictures. The quality and visuals are great.

You must have skipped the first sentence and other replies of the thread. I don't see anything wrong in taking inspiration from the protester's clothes and makeshift items and armor.

Inspiration comes from both beauty and destruction. Some of the worlds greatest art is based on, or satirising horrible events/persons.

 

I don't see games as an exception to art, personally.

Also to stay on topic, would like to see some of those objects/clothing indeed. Riot shields get me inspirated for some melee zombie action.

Dude that dosnt stop ppl from playing games where you mass muder veitnamies or mid easterners in more modern war games. Inspiration has to come from the darkest of places sometimes. And a zombie apocalypse needs as much as it can get no matter how real the inspiration comes from and no matter how wrong. Unless you want to have zombies that ride unicorns and give you flowers.
