For those complaining about development pace

Recommended Posts

Look, well all get that its ALPHA.

I think the problem is once the excitement of the DayZ Standalone Alpha release wore off there is the growing perception that we have paid $30 for a VERY stripped down version of the MOD with a lot of the same exploits and bugs.

Yes they warned us all.... but the fact is that back-end improvements just aren't sexy and the average user looks at this game in its front-end state and thinks WTF were they doing for the last year.

I wonder how many users have gone back to playing the MOD?

A lot have.  I even picked up Arma 2 and the mod out of curiosity.  But that means that as each addition to SA is released I get to play it for free and follow the development as it happens.  I like that.

You said it yourself.  They warned everyone, so to those who are more focused with shiny and front-end changes over fundamental and required changes that need to happen, they should have read those big "DO NOT BUY" warnings a few more times.

I don't mind it at all. I have waited 15 years for games like Duke Nukem or 10+ years on Fallout. But at least he (Rocket) can share a picture of that INCREDIBLE Ice cream he and the DayZ dev team are having. ^-^ *Slight sarcasm*

Pretty much this.  I'd rather them take their time with it and do it right than have to wait for them to go back and fix what they rushed.

But this game had a leg up on most other alphas these days, it was already a mod, my biggest problem is that this game is (For the most part) behind the state of the mod, it seems that they have spent the majority of the dev time working on server stability (Not a bad thing) and adding a broken degradation system a bad thirst/ hunger system and  adding weapon attachments.... on the plus side the ui is better than the mod, still clunky but better than the mod.

If you actually had read up on the development of the game, they rewrote chunks of Arma II engines code so they can do stuff that they couldn't do before.

As for the it is "Alpha stfu", they are right. This forum section is not for posting bugs or reporting issues. If you have an issue with a feature you can post it on the Suggestion forums. If you are experiencing problems with a bug you can post it in the Bug tracker. Making a thread complaining/whinging about every single bug and issue no matter how big or minor, on the General forums is counter productive.

If only people actually did this.  What do we get instead?  At least 30 threads a day all relating to KoS, ghosting, server hopping, and badmins.  Another ~40 posts a day with "awesome suggestions to "fix" problems with the game" that are all just terrible in their own regard and could have been posted in one of the other 10000 posts on the same subject.  These forums man.  I don't know.

I'll quote myself from another thread:

Try be a backer for the game called Cube World. The we can talk about time between patches. Seriously, let them take all the time they need to make a good

finished game. No need to rush any updates and make things worse.

Also: i don't know if anyone here is a backer for Star Citizen,  but not long ago, us backers was promised a dogfighting module for the game. Unfortuanlty we did not get one, because it got delayed. This made into a SHITSTORM of people complaining about it, constructive or not. Here is Chris Roberts answer, which i feel i something WE as a Dayz Standalone backer might learn something from, instead of whine about how long it's before next patch: https://robertsspaceindustries.com/comm-link/transmission/13432-Letter-From-The-Chairman-On-Dogfighting

Ha ha, awesome! :) So happy when https://twitter.com/wol_lay made his comeback;)

Agreed, it was good to see that the people overreacting about a man and his wife having lives outside of creating a game for a few weeks.  I'm confidant in the creators of Star Citizen and DayZ.  Now WarZ on the other hand.....

Someone just posted this in another thread complaining that the game is never going to be finished (I'm sure you can find which one I'm referring to)

Mod was made and released. Never finished.

Standalone was made and released. Still not finished.

At this point we should hope for members of the community to be able to pick it up and make their own versions eliminating the need for speculation threads like this.

This is the kind of crap I'm talking about in my original post.... Unbelievable.

Personally, if this game doesnt get done till 2016, but we get regular updates, and interesting updates, this game will stay like new.

I agree.  I doubt it will take that long, but I mean, think of how much time people have already put into this game.  It's in early access and costs 30$... I've gotten more fun and entertainment and hours on this game than most 60$ games released in the last year.  That says something.

I am seriously about to keel over from the amount of whining on the forums though.  I may need to take a week or two off from coming here lol

Very many people say omg theres no guns, omg theres nothing to do. And in all honesty, it is an alpha. So many people say that it's a bad thing to say and that it's not an excuse, but it kind of is.. I get tired of new players whining too. :(

It's not an unreasonable complaint.  An open-release alpha is fairly uncommon.  It means that nearly everyone who has been waiting for the game has already purchased it.  And those people purchased it at $20 when many of them would have paid $60.  So what has to happen is that the game has to continue generating enough interest for new players to keep funding the game for the next year or two while Rocket and his team go through various builds, beta and production releases.

I agree, but also realize that the more that people scream "MOAR MOAR MOAR" the better chance the game has of having rushed, unfixable features down the road.  I want the game to be perfect, and it can be provided people stop making the complaints that there's nothing to do or that there's no guns.

There is as much to do in this game as you allow yourself to do.

It won't stop.  Every day there are about 20 KOS QQ threads, 30 "omg theres nothing to do" threads, and at least 10 "Omg the game is a scam it'll never be done" threads.

Yeah.  I'm sure there are more people than just me that are getting tired of constantly saying "It's alpha".. as much as others are getting tired of reading it.  I long for the day people will start being able to read and I'll finally be able to stop saying that it's an alpha game.

Or maybe stop being a fanboy, so you can objectively look at these things?

Check this:

It's DayZ mod for arma 3 (note the date of video) and was made in few months by very small team. Also note that Bohemia blocked this mod as it infringes DayZ trademark or something.

I can objectively look at things.  Not once did I say the current state of the game was perfect.  But it shouldn't be.  There is a difference between being a fanboy, as so many whiners are accustomed to calling people who don't bitch, and saying that complaining about the game progress will only make it worse - not better.

I also am not going to explain the fundamental differences between creating your own game from scratch, and using an existing game's code and assets to create a mod.

Hello there

One has to remember there are certain licencing rules in place, one cannot simply take assets and whack them in another engine, even if it is "doable" without permission. Doesnt make any a fanboi.

Nothing to complain about the developing pace, but more updates on process would be nice. (Looks at announcements.)

Not just Twitter. I tried setting up a Twitter account just to follow the developers, but it just feels like a mess.

It could get rid of the unnecessary forum post's asking about updates.

Create one forum sub-category for development updates/progress. And like i stated about Twitter, the sub-category is just a mess of confusing posts.

(And stuff that has nothing to do with the game and Developing it.)

I don't think anyone who hasn't created their own game, faster than Bohemia, has any right to complain about the pace of development. It's slow, yes, but it's slow on purpose, and I'm confident it'll get there in the end.

Maybe you should look at some of the "real" DayZ look-a-like mods for Arma 3, and see how long its taken to develop, from scratch.

As Orlok says, anybody can copy paste content from Arma 2 to Arma 3, but that doesnt make it your work lol.

Theres 100's of examples of people doing this and claiming it as "work i have done".

Take 2017 for example, its been under development since the beginning of tha Arma 3 Alpha and its still not in any shape to play, havent been publicly released, not even as an alpha mod.

So please understand, making things from scratch, with a small dev team, takes a shitload of time.

Hence why we where told the Beta wont come till late 2014, if we are lucky :)

I'm happy with the way things are progressing.

I'm glad we don't have Rocket on here every 5 mins telling us what's going on. People would only misinterpret and there'd be even more moany threads.

I refused to buy the last Total War game, (the first time since the franchise started I've not bought an instalment), because I was sick of buying a game for full price like the last two and then having to wait 6 months to a year to be able to play it when the bugs and crashes were finally ironed out.

Creative Assembly would go on about how complex the game was and bugs are to be expected - Sorry don't release the game if it can't be played.

The Devs have been very upfront and honest about were they are heading with DayZ. We can't start telling them to change what they are doing just cuse we are getting bored.

We need to have a little faith and patience.
