dobrowney 55 Posted January 5, 2014 As of right now to me there is no reason to get all four parts of the in game map and use it to nav. With sites like Dayzdb.com/map . There map is 10 times what the in game map is . Aleast in the mod you could use the in game map to mark waypoints and move around. I understand the reason for making the system real. But some real life stuff does not work in video games. When a 3rd party website offers more to the map then your in game map what is the point of even picking up the in game map. You need to look at things like this. You need to offer a reason for us to use the in game map ..
Frostbyte_ 44 Posted January 5, 2014 I mainly use it for rangefinding. There´s 2 other topics on map on the front page btw, why not contribute to those?

Max Planck 7174 Posted January 5, 2014 You don't need to look at 3rd party maps if you don't want to.I don't want to, for example. As for waypoints in the mod, proper servers had those turned off...
SoWeMeetAgain 100 Posted January 5, 2014 with a compass and landmarks you can use it to accurately determine your position on the map ... even in the wilds
terrvik 2409 Posted January 5, 2014 Awesome people only use the in game voice even when playing with friends as well. Third party software can go to hell! ;)

Am not just talking about the waypoints. In dayzdb.com you can mark stuff in the map and it will be there next time. They need to work on stuff like that .. Make the map something amazing and like a real life map .. Make it so you can right on it and it will stay after restarts.

Element47 2481 Posted January 5, 2014 writing annotations on the map that persist between sessions has been suggested numerous times and iirc was positively commented on by the devs. im pretty sure it will come as for dayzdb, it is a great, extensive ressource if you want to take shortcuts - both literally and metaphorically. but its one bigass spoiler. it takes so much away from the experience that i cringe everytime when someone suggests dayzdb to a new player. when i heard about a new military base in the proximity of stary, i actually ran in semicircles around the town till i found it one hour later, all the time with the tension of danger from other potentially hostile scavengers in the area. i could have looked the location up on dayzdb and be there in 3-5 minutes, and lose all that spine-tingling experience of actually discovering it for myself.
victusmortuus 1074 Posted January 5, 2014 I don't even bother with maps anymore. Chernarus is pretty easy to navigate.
fluxley 2228 Posted January 5, 2014 Some of us like to play the game without using 3rd party maps, just because its of little value to you doesn't mean others won't appreciate it.
captainvette2112 84 Posted January 5, 2014 Am with ya Bro. I never use it .. It is so limited and pointless right now .. I have a map pulled up on my tablet sitting right next to my computer. In-game map for SA LOLx10000

Fabik 71 Posted January 5, 2014 Same goes for people who use teamspeak or other 3rd party communication software... Last i checked, survivors weren't supposed to communicate if they aren't in shouting range. (which is shorter than shooting range ;) )

I mean if you want to get into what is "supposted" to happen then there arent even supposted to be survivors because zombies arent real. So I'll just stick to playing with my map on my tablet and talking to my friends on TS.
MurQ 33 Posted January 5, 2014 Rangefinding and seeing who's on the server (unless there is another way to do that I'm unaware of). "p" Having the map split into parts is a terrible idea. The game map is too small with too little in it to have more than 1 mapAlso having 1 map is helpful for new players which is a good thing

OrLoK 16186 Posted January 5, 2014 Got no time to look though the Forums .. Need to get back to Killing Bandits. Sorry Hello there If you have time to post you have time to search. IMHO external maps, no matter how well executed are just a massive spoiler and one only lessens the pure experience by using them. Dayzdb map is for the weak. slyder73 94 Posted January 5, 2014 (edited) The ingame map is better for navigation than the 3rd party website map. Ingame has the countours/elevations etc and geographical landmarks. Using a map and compass or just the map and landmarks, it is easy and realistic to navigate or plan a route. That being said, I did that in the mod days and have played Arma2 since it came out so pretty much have Chernarus memorized and have no need for the ingame maps at all. Even a compass is not necessary because you can always tell which way North is by the direction of shadows at any time of day. I guess you could say I've "leveled up" and have intrinsic knowledge of the landscape the same way I do in the region I hunt in real life. LOL I use the 3rd party map now to see what has been added in terms of loot probabilities or new items/vehicles etc. Edited January 5, 2014 by Slyder73
