DayZ is FailZ (Lacklustre Infected comment)

Before you hate me, let me explain. I absolutely love the game, and the mod as well. Its the best survival mmo out there, although " massively multiplayer online" are kinda strong words for 50 players on one server, but whatever.

 

DayZ is FAR from what its meant to be. It has NOTHING to do with a zombie apocalypse, not even the zombies. (and im not talking about the fact that there is absolutely NO sign of zombie apocalypse in chernarus. Some blood and a few destroyed buildings doesnt mean by far that there has been a zombie apocalypse.)

 

If a zombie game is done good, the zombies should be feared and respected. They should be terrible, flesh ripping, cruel and gross creatures that just give you goosebumps everytime you see them.

 

In DayZ, zombies are.... dolls. They are nothing more than retarded weird bugged dolls. If you would want to make them as they should be - you would need to completely change the engine, at minimum. Arma is, always was and will be an army simulator, a SHOOTING simulator, and even though melee works to some degree, its awful, not smooth by far and visually it doesnt even look like melee. When you are fighting a zombie, you should be able to chop its damn head off, or see it ripping your flesh, charging and jumping at you while pushing you to the ground so you have to actually take him off you before you stand up and finish him (no, not in the bugged retarded way they do now in standalone).

 

Now Im not whining about anything. The game is really awesome and I love it. But imagine there would be no zombies, SA or the mod, doesnt matter. Would that do something beside removing a rather annoying aspect of the game? No, I dont think so. Zombies mean nothing. They do not jump at you out of the doors when you open them. They do not try to break the doors and they have no intelligence AT ALL. They just stay there, and run after you when they "detect" you. Thats it. These are the big, scary, cruel zombies of dayz. Retarded dolls running through walls that cant even punch you right. Wait, zombies and PUNCHING you? They should be eating your face off while another 50 would be ripping off every piece of flesh on your body.

 

what im trying to say is, DayZ is an awesome game because of its survival aspect. Zombies are, always were and always probably will be a huge fail. 

 

 

 

 

one last piece: I think that if zombies actually are meant to represent any danger, we would really need a LOT of them, like 500 in a big city, 100 in small, and they would have to be roaming arround the world in HUGE groups (500+). That way, the next scenario would ACTUALLY be possible: (which I think is one of the goals of DayZ as it is a zombie apoc. simulator)

-you are walking in the woods, you see a guy and are about to kill him as 90percent of players would do

-suddenly you see a massive horde of zombies surrounding you and your target

-now you would actually think "oh fuck the zombies are coming i need his help" because if not, they would just outnumber you, instead of "oh fuck the annoying zombies, gotta kill the player before they just annoyingly give away my position" 

 

 

I think that would also have a big impact on the KOS mentality.

 

I also think that is not gonna be possible with this engine. EVER.

Disclaimer says this, and Rocket has said this numerous time. Your post is the only fail.

 

this is an early alpha, which the disclaimer says, and the majority of the features arent even implemented yet, which yes, includes zombies.

Not flaming and honestly i stopped reading half way but they by far are not happy with AI and have officially stated that the zombie AI and spawn amounts aren't even close to done again it comes back to the whole alpha thing just give it time and we will see what happens

When I first saw this thread I thought you were going to be a cry baby carebear who was upset about dying to constant PVP. You are one of those people however you do give constructive ideas. I think the zombie count currently is FAR beneath what it will be in the future. I mean, you'll barely see any. Then again you have to remember they've been working on their network infrastructure.

did you read the plan.

there will be 6000 zombies. 300 in elektro for example.

hordes will come.

special zombies will come

special zombi movie will come

they will get dangerous.

please read the plan before you are talking bullshit.

you bought an alpha and thats it. i know many people dont understand that or are too stupid.

if the game is realeased in one year and it is bad THEN and only THEN you can say: it is a shit game. but not now

According to interviews from Rocket, massive hordes of zombies is one thing they're working on for DayZ SA.  We're at a very early point in the Alpha right now so I wouldn't expect much right now.  To be honest, functionally and otherwise this is the best Alpha of a game I've ever played.

You have my beans, also Rocket said that he is making zombies respawn after you kill them which I think is very retarded.

It doesn't even make any sense.

 it is fun clearing out towns and looting them instead of zombies respawning.

I agree that zombies should respawn after server restarts.

Granted the OP didn't do a good job of getting people to read his post or do anything to prevent them posting before reading but its not going to be very good for this game if every suggestion made people just say... Its Alpha...  its just like... what is that, i dont even....

Granted the OP didn't do a good job of getting people to read his post or do anything to prevent them posting before reading but its not going to be very good for this game if every suggestion made people just say... Its Alpha...  its just like... what is that, i dont even....

 

I read it. I'm sure others did too.

 

But you can tell exactly what this post is in the second statement. It's been addressed. The answer to his woes is "Alpha". Sure feedback is great, but making a big long complaint that they're a massive disappointment when the Early Access has only been accessible to us for a little over a week is ridiculous. It's been acknowledged, let them show us what they intend to do first before we complain about how shit the zombies are, eh?

Now seriously, I agree with you on one point: I'm quite doubtfull on the capacity of arma engine to handle my "dream" zombie. As you, I would like to have damn clever zeds, able to socialize, to react to llight during night, to jump on your neck when they are 5m away, to ambush you...

I just fear that Rocket goal is only to increase the simultaneous number of zeds, but keeping their current  behavior.

 

On the other side, I understand that performance optimization is a  mandatory step: if the engine current can't handle more than 10 zeds in a town, it's useless to try to get them smarter or scarier.

 

But (just to flame you a little bit as you seems to look for it :lol: ), it's just an alpha mate ;)

They gave us a chistmas gift to show us the work was in progress, now let's get the team some time to show what they really are able to do ^^

Yeah the game is in alpha but there are so many bugs! There shouldn't be bugs in alpha! They need to have some sort of notification to tell you that the game is unfinished and there will be bugs... OH WAIT  <_<

Eh. 

 I like how every 5 threads there's someone suggesting that they should change engines just after they worked for a year +  to release SA on this one. 

There is no engine out there more suited for the DayZ experience.
To get an engine that gives the best of both worlds (the realistic feel of ARMA and the flexibility of other engines) would mean to build their own. 

It would be a pretty ambitious engine. 
Unless anyone around here backs their arguments up with about 50 million dollars worth of funding, then expectations/requests for a new engine are rather daft. 
 

Furthermore I believe DayZ is about survival first and foremost.

I totally agree that, to some extent, the zombies feel like a catalyst instead of a main focus point, and I think that's exactly what the developer(s? still not sure) intended. Even if they ramp it up bigtime in terms of zombie threat, I still probably won't see zombies as the main element of the game.

The Zeds are meant to create tension, to give the feeling that the lands aren't safe, to stop you from feeling 100% comfortable camping behind a bush because an infected, even buggy and glitchy as he may be might puncture your neck and drain you of your blood if you happen to not have any rags on you. 

So far, to me, that has been achieved.
Right now there's not all that many zombies on the map, but I believe Rocket said he's working on getting more in(?). 

 

All in all I think there is a disconnect in perception. 
I don't see DayZ as a "zombie game". Left 4 Dead is a zombie game.

 

To me DayZ is a thrilling survival game with zombies in it. Replace the zombies with any similar threat (packs of radioactive psycho-wolves) and the essence of the game remains.

He did an absolute piss poor job. If people would just think and read there own post before they hit that "post" button I think things would've of went a bit differently.

Constructive criticism, suggestions or bug reports are one thing but I have no idea wtf the OP was thinking... Or was he?
