My short (and late) thanks for 0.62 :)

Heyyyy but I'm not crying, this is an honest thank-you post, that's all. Perhaps I might have gone a bit far with the sarcastic tone, but that was not my intention. I have cried my cries already. Now it's time to enjoy :)

gameplay over realism or other way around?

Like most other people, I agree with the balance between these two. While it is both fun and realistic to have all the stuff like bullet drops, hunger, thirst, scavenging, all that, it wouldn't be that much fun to actually have to sleep in the game. Which is one instance where gameplay > realism, because obviously, it would be quite boring to just look at a black screen for 6 hours because that's how much your character needs to sleep in order to be "fully rested". So once again, a good blend of the two is great. Sleep is a no-no in multiplayer games, but stamina still should play a big part of the gameplay. And for balance purposes, it would be regenerated rather slowly (but still MUCH faster than in real life) by, let's say, laying down or sitting.
  3. So after getting banned about two times this year (you know, for complaining how slow the development is etc., classic) I felt like this is the time to finally express some gratitude. I finally had the chance to put in a couple of hours (even if only around 30) in 0.62 and I have to say, the forest redesign is really breathtaking. Until now, I've been all like "damn, they do this when there are hundreds of things to be done that are far more important". But I guess it's only reasonable to say that in order to stay at least a bit competitive on the survival games market, this had to be done. And now, when I log into the game and see all kinds of beautiful colors and such detailed textures and trees and everything - for a moment there I had a feeling I'm playing The Witcher 3. I mean just look at the details of the leaves on the ground!! And the sounds! Finally some atmosphere! One thing completely breaks it though - as you listen to all the birds singing and stuff going on around you in the forest, you look up and there is not a single living thing, so then it feels incredibly artificial (they could just put random stationary birds on the trees or sth like that, they don't even have to be functional, just an object on the tree that would maybe move it's head in the way trees bend to the wind, to complete the illusion.) So even though there's still nothing to really do in the game and all the problems I've talked about in the past are still present, furthermore, we are all just blindly waiting for 0.63, thinking it is the Second Coming for DayZ, I gotta admit, oh man, they really did do a good job on this. Once again I can lie to myself that this is a great game and trick myself into the atmospheric gameplay while trying to not think about the fact that there is no future or meaning of life (in the game, I mean - yknow, what am I gonna do after I get all the stuff?) and just try to survive. But hey, thanks. Big time. (That's a shopped pic but it really expresses how it feels in game compared to 0.61. Doesn't it?) PS: Re-reading this post, I can see how negative it sounds. That was not my intention, but it sends the message I wanted to send. All I'm saying is, this re-design is really awesome. Please, keep this good work up. It is a huge contrast when compared to the first years of development, when the biggest thing we got was a new color of backpack or new kind of food.

Back to DayZ standalone after 3 years - thoughts

I honestly don't know why do I still have hopes in this game. It's stuck on the same spot since it came out. And the promises with 0.63 and all that... yeah, sure, okay. Been there, done that, time to move on. I can't wait to laugh my ass off at the excuse they will use in December for not being able to release 0.63 (or beta or whatever it is they promised now). Or maybe they'll just re-release 0.62, add a couple of new shirts and pants and call it a day.

"Don't overpromise" "steady stream of content" "consider player requests" okay umm... yeah. This whole presentation. Just stop lying would you?

    Character Value: A discussion.

I'm sorry for not having the time and the patience to read through the replies. I also skipped through the last parts of your post, as I felt like I already know what you wanted to point out (namely, base building and soft skills). With that, I agree completely. And the other things you mentioned. The story part of the game, which corresponds to, as you said, the loot and the artistic side of the game, is really something the DAYZ SA is missing right now, but it was in the mod, at least to some extend. I am talking about the piles of bodies scattered around the military camps or bases. But that's basically all there was, right? For a comparison, I am going to take another survival multiplayer game - I won't mention the name, as I'm not sure if I would be breaking any rules or advertising another game or something. But I'm sure everyone will know what I'm talking about. It is very similar to DayZ, and it does some things better and some things worse. The thing is, if more people played this another game, in my opinion, it has a potential to be so much better than DayZ. However, the number of people playing just makes it not so much fun. So in this game I'm comparing, they have exactly what DayZ is missing so much right now - the atmosphere, the story. When you walk into a building, you see SO MANY THINGS - okay, you cannot loot 95% of this, but just look at this: In the other game: You see a house. You walk in, there's blood everywhere, furniture half-destroyed, a lot of mess on the ground - newspapers, clothes, boxes, scatered glasses, you name it. It looks as if someone has had a really gruesome, long fight with a zombie and then either died in the basement or ran away. The paintings on the walls are misplaced or hanging in a weird, damaged way, windows are sometimes broken and the fridge might be open. In DayZ: You see a house. You walk in, there's blood everywhere. There's a bed and a closet. And that's it. There is absolutely nothing else. What the hell? It's like somebody literally called a packing company before the apocalypse started, calmly took all their furniture and EVERY SINGLE GOD DAMN PIECE OF CLOTHES, JEWERLY, NEWSPAPER, MUGS, PLATES, EVERYTHING and just went away. And then they came back to just drop some bood on the ground. This is so unrealistic it just hurts me every time I walk into a "house". It is so fake. So so so fake. This needs to be changed. What is the art department doing? We don't need more colorful clothing loot. We need more things to look at in the environment. I mean come on. Just look at the two pictures. EDIT: Now when I'm back-reading my post, I realized I kind of attacked the devs. Didn't mean to "sh*t" on them. All I wanted to say is, they should put at least one person who would simply make things prettier - add details. And I believe it is one of the easiest things to do and wouldn't really hurt the FPS or anything. Just, you know. Put some wallpapers or paintings in the houses. Maybe some slightly different textures. A body here and there. Just things that you cannot interact with, and don't affect performance. I'm sure nothing extreme would have happened if you put like, say, a pile of clothes in half of the houses. EDIT2: Okay, not paintings, there are some paintings here and there xD But you get the idea. Any small detail that makes the game more immersive. Literally anything. I would imagine plates (broken or not) with some food leftovers in the restaurant/cofee shop building that's in the bigger towns. And bodies. Lots and lots and lots and LOTS of dead, bloody mutilated bodies. The big piles of bodies with flies in the DayZ mod were really atmospheric. I'd start with that. But maybe I'm horribly wrong and this would require insane amounts of work. I have no idea about game development.

Flickering textures, bought new PC, no change

This is exactly what I am talking about. 100% exactly the same thing, just the game is different (that's dayz MOD, i'm playing standalone, whatever-same issue, looks the same, acts the same). Don't forget also that my flickering is at least 100% worse than that on the video. This guy gets only small parts of buildings - like the rims or maybe doors. I usually get half or more of the building flickering like this. And not even talking about trees. Ground is always fine, no matter the distance. How does the viewdistance work? The smaller it is, the smaller the distance I will spot players? Or does it apply to the buildings only? And don't forget that the farther the object/building/whatever is, the worse it gets. When I'm like 700meters from the "target", you know the hotel building with big windows and 4-5 floors? Well, that one, at that distance is literally blinking black/normal. The ENTIRE building. On other buildings, its just parts - usually like on the video = borders of the textures especially. It's really annoying and when simply staying still, it makes it look as if the entire city was moving, and then it's much much harder to spot players in such amounts of noise. So if it was only annoying, i'm fine with that, but it's straight out disatvantageous.

Exactly. And I reinstalled the game and tried all the other stuff, nothing worked. Any other ideas? :'(

Flickering textures, bought new PC, no change

Okay, many many thanks to everyone for the answers. I'm now going to try to play around with the nvidia 3d settings etc. If nothing will work, I'll just reinstall the game to have it clean and see if it still happens. There is a possibility that I screwed up some settings in one way or another, as I haven't noticed this until I got binoculars (and they're pretty rare and I suck at the game, so I just die everytime before I get such a thing xD) - it was there before as well, but I was too lazy to solve it and it didn't affect me THAT much. I mean, you can live with this... until you look at a city through the binoculars/scope. Then it's literally nihilist christmas with black lights everywhere lol Anyway, I'll try everything you mentioned and will report back soon. Thanks again!
  10. So, yeah, title says it all. Been playing dayz with this hell of an uncomfortable thing literally since it came out. I bought a new computer recently, few months ago, haven't played since then, now I tried and yep, it's there again. However now the flickering is literally unbearable - for example, when looking at something in the distance with binoculars or a scope, I can barely make out what it is due to the flickering. The problem is clearly visible even when merely zooming in with right mouse button. Does anyone have at least a vague idea how to fix this? I mean, even a little bit of improvement would be great, since the game is, well, I can't say unplayable because FPS only rarely drops below 30, but it's annoying as hell and yeah, it looks like the game is having a seizure. I have tried playing around with the settings, both in the game and through the .cfg files, but nothing makes any difference. Also, when I play the game through the 32bit client, it's ... well, framerate goes down and it's very unstable, always crashes, or I have these moments of 30 seconds up to 3 minutes, when I literally have 1 fps, then it "jumps" back to normal. I haven't had the chance to notice if the flickering is present in the 32bit version, since it's literally unplayable for me. I have: Intel i3 6300 skylake 8GB DDR4 ram GeForxe 750ti 2GB Windows 10 ultimate If someone can at least point me to a website or anything, I'll be extremely grateful. This is one of the very rare cases where even exhausting in-depth google search doesn't yield any results - or nobody seems to have any idea how to fix this.

where to find guns every time in 0.52

I confirm that the spawn rate is 100 percent, and if there is nothing, somebody took it before you. Mostly, I find handguns and shotguns there, rarely a crossbow and sometimes stuff like SKS and mosins.

Mosin Nagant Rangeing and Sniping Tutorial

Right so uhm. This guy Retr092 says that this way is incorrect in the game and I don't want to believe him. Your post is brilliant retro, I just want to have it nice and easy instead of complicated as fuck as it seems now for me. So how the heck do you range in dayz standalone with mosin and a long range scope ? I'm not asking about any IRL ballistics or whatever I want to know how to range in Dayz Standalone with the mosin with Long Range Scope. Is the video tutorial right ? If so, thanks a lot and if you are a bandit just go to a corner in the airfield and tremble in fear, waiting for the bullet from my mosin. If its not right, then .. ?
