Cool Spawn Idea

Recommended Posts

My idea is more in favor of a RolePlay style DayZ, but it would make more sense then randomly waking up on the shore with a flashlight and such. Ok so my idea is you spawn in a full house randomly on the map and by spawning there it makes it your house, meaning that you have stuff pertaining to the house and you would have it as a mark on your map when you get it or a sign saying so. You could then loot and everything, but industrial supplies such as Wooden planks and other items could be used to fortify you house or build furniture or even a new part of the house. Maybe a garden or garage. You could lock the doors, fortify the windows with iron bars, or board them up.

So, I would love to hear what you all think and how it could be improved.

This sounds like a good idea. I would have no doubt that Rocket has an idea similiar to this. But I could be wrong. Either way. ROCKET LOOK AT THIS FUCKING POST.

Hmmm...

We have over half a million players so far. How many houses are on the map?

exactly. base building is what rocket wants to implement. I would love to build a shallow, hidden, underground base on a server lol.

I don't see how 'owning' the houses would work with the hive system, but using houses all over the map as spawns instead of the coast sounds great to me. Makes more sense both in terms of 'story' and practicalities like everyone swarming to Balota.

Not a big fan of the idea, I'm afraid. I like the way that Chernarus seems alien, everything is in cyrillic, the placenames and the buildings are hard to recognise, you're a stanger here and stanger still the locals are violently insane and the fellow survivors are insanely violent. I think that giving you a home to live in would detract from that. Plus I think that camps, bases and dwellings should be captured and defended, not awarded to you on arrival.

one of the funnest things i did in the mod was running around in the woods looking for tent's and camps to raid.

as it is now (yes i know ITS ALPHA) its get kitted up go hunt people..

hope tents get added soon so people start making camps to raid.

Hmmm I am no coding/servers guy, but it could just be on one server and thats it. But you could have multiple Server Groupings such as a server could be like US142 or whatever and say in bold SECTOR 3. I'm not sure how this would work but if someone knew another way to solve this I would love to hear it.

Im afraid to say but don't you spawn on the shore and think where did I come from? Having a house would add RP and make the game less PvP, but more based on building a community.

I'm quite happy to leave a character's backstory nebulous; It adds to the tension. As for community building, base building and establishing oneself ought to be part of the survival experience later in game. If you want to establish a community on a server half of the fun is picking a spot, clearing it out, starting to build and defending it from zombie herds and invading squads. It's not the sort of thing that the game engine ought to award you from the outset.

How much more fun would it be to have the good fortune to find a shack somewhere inland that's in a good tactical position, and then to begin scraping together the tools to fortify, secure and protect it? It would be far more fun to be a survivor than a resident.

Hmmm you could abandon your house as an option and scavenge from it and claim a area or just start building, but for the story I feel it makes a bit more attachment to your character.

I don't think we're going to come to an agreement on this one, ALK. I like the fact that we have no backstory and that we don't belong in Chernarus. I want there to be base/community building but I want it to be something you accomplish through teamwork and effort in the long term. You feel there should be more connection to the gameworld and more emphasis on base building from the outset. No biggie. :beans:

I think a better idea would be the ability to find padlocks and keys to be able to lock people out of a building. That being said, most of the buildings on the map should be locked already and either forced open (loudly) or lockpicked (time costly). This way you can add more end game content by being able to craft higher "tier" doors and shutters that would be difficult enough to break down that it might serve as a deterrent.

i.e. They have a metal reinforced door? You require a power saw and car battery to obtain access.

This might produce a problem where some cities could be closed to outsiders entirely. If player can troll others they will troll others, even to the point where a server is ruined because of it.

I like to imagine that I came from one of the wrecks and not know Chernarus not speak Russian (so do not know how to read the signs) and it showed up on the beach

Great idea since it would remove coastal spawns and as a result will populate different parts of the maps not just the coast.

Maybe as an optional mechanic, but I doubt they're going to break away from their long list of plans to do something like this (for now, anyway).

It's not a bad idea by any means.

I personally like fresh characters waking up washed up on shore with just a flashlight and their clothes.  Adds to the challenge and immersion.

I do believe however, that back when this game was originally drafted up that Rocket mentioned his idea of "end game" achievement would be some sort of fortification.  He mentioned specifically underground bunkers and subterranean dwelling.
