Since this is supposed to be so realistic

Recommended Posts

Shouldn't we not have to worry about dying from dehydration in 3 days and starvation in about 7-10 days?

Just a thought, it'd make the game easier to play later on and give players time to do other things once the game has more features? Since for the most part, I usually have to run around worrying about finding a drink or food.

What would you do if you didn't have to worry about food or drink for days? Hunt people?

Try not eating or drinking for just one day and then try jogging for an hour irl.

Authentic, not realistic.

It also wouldn't be a lot of fun. Most people don't even survive for a week on a single character. This would give them another reason to run to NWAF as freshspawns.

I hate these kind of posts with a passion. Have you tried this? No? Then why did you post it as an example?

Oh you did do this? Woah! How are you posting? Aren't you dead? Surely this would kill you right?

Haha no it wouldn't kill you , and lets not stray from the issue this is a survival game , eating and drinking is an essential mechanic in this game cuz like everyone has said it honestly gives people something to do other than kill eachother . Although some kill just for food and drink , as would real bandits in an apocalypse , but it truly adds authenticity and is much more enjoyable when you get past the frustration of basically life in a video game .

Play the game 10h more and thats the last thing you are worried about.

You can't die with supermarkets beeing filled by fairies with cans of food and drinks every every ten minutes the moment you look away...

I would agree... If the activity levels were factored in.

If you were running many KM a day, you would be very hungry and thirsty all the time too.

I think it's a little over the top - and some kind of algorithm with activity + time should be implemented, but this is more realistic overall than what the average person needs in real life. Because the average person doesn't do a fraction of the exercise that the average DayZ character does.

Anyway, in real life, say I was eating tins of beans and sardines... I work out a bit, but I'm not running tens of KM a day - so I don't need half as much as a DayZ character. But I'd need maybe an orange and a tin of tuna in the morning, a tin or sardines and a tin of beans in the evening and a tin of beans, an orange and a tin of sardines or tuna in the night to not be tired, moody and unable to murder zombies. Obviously there can be days when I eat a lot less - or a lot more, but on average, to keep myself healthy, that's the amount I'd need. (Just thought I'd put it in DayZ terms.) I generally drink about 6 equivalent glasses of water on a not-very-active day - that's 6 canteen refills.

I'm 5'3.

I do eat a little more than the average healthy person, but unless your DayZ character has a base and doesn't run miles and miles all the time, it's not enough for that.

It's probably purposefully over the top currently, to help put players into all the different states of hunger and test them out more frequently,

I'm fairly positive it will be adjusted later.

Uh.. that's the point of the game. It's a survival simulator with zombies.

Take out the need to eat and drink and you have a pretty boring game that is even more deathmatchy than it is already

I like it the way it is now, If it's any less then it almost be like not having to worry about it at all.. as it stands I get full and I last several hours before getting thirsty affix, I go 3 or 4x longer before getting a hungry affix ...

I would really say that the hunger levels should burn threw them a little faster tbh as I rarely ever have a hungry affix and I always have a Healthy affix. :(

Depending on the weather, your level of exertion and how hydrated you are, lack of water can kill you in a couple of hours.

If players are able to last a couple of days without water, it should then be extremely rare. Yet many players don't live that long, so they would never experience the stress of trying to find food and water. That would remove a large aspect of survival out of the game. In this case, shortening the amount of time it takes to die from starvation and dehydration actually makes the game more realistic, not less.

Due to the constant adrenaline rush you'd probably be running on in such a scenario i'd say re-hydrating and eating would be very important.

I think we should have a longer period between a bad state and death, things like extreme fatigue.

Keep spawning us hungry, I think hunger system is pretty good.

Food needs to be rarer, especially when wildlife & cooking is added.

Some annoying things that could happen when hungry to simulate hunger? Heavy head, camera very slowly tilts down over time.

Chance of being unconscious, coma.

Walking once very hungry should be the most sensible option (a notification would be good) "I will last much longer if I conserve my energy by walking" when hungry, it should be your only priority as you scour houses and fields for signs of something to eat.

Food and water should still be priority when spawning, none of this get to the guns crap that ain't survival that's murder.

Adrenaline won't keep you up indefinately. And the body only works as long as it has something to work on.

The effects of hunger and thirst have to be severe and players should not be able to disable them like they do in the game...i was so shocked and confused the first time i played the game because i was wounded and my whole view was blurry then another player told me to turn of PP and all i said was wtf do we have the effects for when you can just turn them off? If the effects of wounds/huntger/thirst would affect a player it would also affect his playstyle/lifestyle. If you had blurry vision and can't stand straight ( unstable stance visible to anyone ) because you didn't have food and water for 2 days but you have a gun would you attack the two players who just looted the supermarket with the chance of finding to perfectly healthy individuals who are superior to you atm or would you wait and hope for some leftovers? Something like that has to influence a players decision and not "CHEWING ON A STEAK WHILE PRONING ON ELEKTRO HILL: OH LOOK A PLAYER...AIM..."
