Performance Comparison/FPS Thread (Post with full system specs)

Recommended Posts

Hey

inb4 shitstorm because there is already a FPS thread but let me finnish and read the next paragraph :)

I know there is a "Your FPS?" thread and I don't want to denounciate this thread but people often provide insufficent information on their system;

e.g. they post FPS without any system specs/graphics settings or just provide CPU and GPU,

although FPS of course depend on grahics settings and also other system specs like Harddrive(due to heavy script load and processing with the VR engine).

Also FPS will change with newer builds*.

So I the goal here is simply to make the results more conform.  :)

To keep this thread nice & clean please no discussions, just results. :)

(still open for critic/ideas)

Here you can share your experience on the FramesPerSeconds with your system and DayZ SA build.

So people can not only see if there system can run DayZ but also what FPS they can expect at the current build* with their system and if they can live with that.

(*would be appreaciated if you post new results with newer builds to keep results up2date)

I know FPS still can vary on system with same specs due to general system stability and how "clean" you keep your system,

still people could see what approximate FPS are possible on certain system specifications.

As I get a good amount of contributions here I'm thinking of taking the most used system specs and calculate an average of what FPS people get and post it in the opening post to make it easier for people to check for their system and are not forced to read the whole thread.

To make the results conform and easy to compare you should post relevant data like this:

Example:

CPU (@overclocked?):

GPU (@overclocked?):

Memory/RAM:

HDD/SSD(only post the drive DayZ is running on):

Operating System:

Monitor Resolution:

Graphics Settings:

FPS in cities:

FPS in wilderness:

(Average FPS:)

no worries.

well this thread is not meant to be a "How many FPS would I get on my system" kinda thread, this is meant to be a thread where people can share their experience with performance on their system.

So after I have a good amount of contributions here I'm thinking of taking the most used system specs and calculate an average of what FPS people get and post it in the opening post to make it easier for people to check and are not forced to read the whole thread :) ( <---I'll add this part in the first post as well)

i5 520m 2.4ghz (2 cores)

hd5650 (clocks clocked equal to 5850)

4gb ram

(~4 years old laptop)

Playing on like 1000x800 or whatever resolution (80%), textures etc maxed. Filtering, AA's off. Shadows/post processing on very low.

I haven't bothered using fraps, but overall I should have ~30 fps in cities and probably like 60+ in wilderness, I have no stuttering and game works smooth all the time (with 1366 (my max res) I feel the fps drop tho).

Overall game runs really smooth in my "I play games 30 fps as long as I can run em max" opinion, except I can't understand how post processing in this game takes away so much fps without really even seemingly doing other than bloom/doh/motion blur (which is only a matter of ~3 fps for me in most games and UDK, unless its dx11 doh)

Had a quick run around this morning fiddling with settings..

PC Spec:

CPU : i5 2500K @4.3GHZ (Watercooled)

GPU : HIS Radeon R9 290 - 4GB DDR5 VRAM - Stock clocks : 947 GPU / 1250 MEM

Memory/RAM: 16GB Corsair Vengeance 1866MHz DDR2

Motherboard: ASUS P8P67 (latest BIOS)

SSD : Crucial M500

Operating System: Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit + SP1

Monitor Resolution: 1920 x 1080

Graphics Settings:

Catalyst Control Centre: Adaptive Multi-sampling ON , all AMD texture and surface optimisation OFF

DayZ SA Video Settings:

Overall Quality : Custom

Rendering Resolution : 1920 x 1080 (100%)

Vsync : Disabled (running 144Hz monitor)

Textures:

Video Memory : Auto

Texture Detail : High

Texture Filtering : High

Quality :

Objects : High

Terrain : High

Clouds : High

Shadows: High

Rendering :

AA : Low (not much of an FPS hit and makes everything look sharper)

ATOC : Disabled

Edge Smoothing : FXAA High

HDR Quality : Low

Ambient Occlusion : Disabled.

Postprocess Quality : Very Low (just enough to get a little motion/rotation blur).

Performance :

FPS in cities: 50 - 70 (10 players on server, none believed to be nearby)

FPS in wilderness: 70 - 90 (10 players on server, none believed to be nearby)

(Average FPS:) 70

DayZ Build (DayZ Standalone only): Latest as of 10 AM GMT 19th December

Impressions :

Seems to be better optimised that the mod as I am seeing reasonable CPU load balancing across all 4 cores. Core 1 is still 20% more loaded than 2, 3 and 4.

GPU is being kept at or very close to 100% load, an improvement over the mod where I’d frequently see loading dip below 75% at similar settings.

VRAM remains woefully underused as I didn’t see more than 1100MB being used at any time in my 20 minute test.

I don’t know whether this is an AMD “thing”, but enabling ATOC at any setting makes all the grass render looking like Shredded Wheat..

Couldn’t see much difference between High and Very High Quality settings, but it does drop the framerate by 10-15fps.

Couldn’t see any difference with Ambient Occlusion on or off.

Despite these gripes, Chernarus has never looked prettier!

i7 2600K @ 4,4GHz

MSI 560 Ti 448 1,2GB @ 800/2000MHz

Windows 7 64-bit

Graphics settings:

jPuRgDvh.jpg

7ibiXkbh.jpg

EdwNGVZh.jpg

2whMmLih.jpg

7tkUv1vh.jpg

Forest:

CPU usage 20-30%, GPU usage 99%

FPS mostly over 60.

Cities:

CPU usage 20-30%, GPU usage mostly under 50%

FPS vary between 25-40 depending how many buildings in fov.

Conclusion:

In cities CPU is "bottlenecked" BUT it is always the same no matter where I am so something is badly optimized.

I tested alone in the Arma 2 editor and my CPU usage in Cherno is more like 35-55% which means that even hyper threading is used though I've set my CPU count to 4 and my GPU usage is 75-99%.

So in DayZ standalone something doesn't let me use the CPU power that I would have to run the cities at 60 or more fps. Multiplayer testing in Arma 3 in domination server gives me the same CPU usage as in DayZ standalone.

The difference with this bottleneck compared to Arma multiplayer bottleneck is that the game does let you to run very high fps outside of the cities. In Arma it seems way more limited. But the CPU usage in Arma multiplayer and DayZ seems to be the exact same so DayZ is still bottlenecked like the same way as Arma multiplayer does but in DayZ that seems to happen in the cities only.

Something is still too much synced in DayZ so the CPU doesn't get fully used because CPU usage alone in the editor is much higher than usage in MP. So saying that "you get about the same fps as in Arma editor alone" is far from the truth at this point. My end conculsion is that when there are a lot of syncin inside the bubble which is mostly in the cities because players, zombies and loot are there so you get bad fps inside the cities because the buildings would demand more CPU power. The CPU usage doesn't rise because it needs to be synced with the server just like in any other RV engine game but this time in a smaller area.

Still you've to remember one thing. Rocket has said that they haven't optimized client side yet at all so this hopefully turns around at some point. I'm still not sure is this still a very deep problem or just a small optimization problem now. That would be really nice to hear.

Couldn’t see any difference with Ambient Occlusion on or off.

Ambient occlusion is essentially more authentic lighting. It looks nice, but it's not worth the 10-15 FPS that it eats IMO.

I have noticed my GPU usage seems to be maxed out at 99% meaning it's the bottle-neck in my system, this makes sense to me as my graphics card is not great.
