December Round-up: ༼ つ ◕_◕ ༽つ GIVE SA

Recommended Posts

Holy crap the last few pages were a lot of words.

The Last of Us is a good example of the use of walls in zombie media, except they used the walls to keep the infected out rather that to keep them in. Walls in DayZ do not appeal to me, I think it's a little bit cheap actually. Besides I seem to recall something about being able to travel to new maps by leaving the Chernarus map in a particular direction, taking your character and all of your loot with you - now that's an idea I can get behind.

Obvious scam. And it worked.

It didn't work, everyone got refunds. Those who wanted them anyway.

Good point but I think traveling to other maps is a big difficult to do atm.

Anyway I am moving off the topic of my disappointment with the release until rocket says something.

Wonderful, but probably not doable with bigger maps right now.

If I'm not wrong, they tried to bring Utes Island  in Chernarus coast based on this idea. I don't know if it's still on Rocket's plans to keep Utes on SA. :(

I think that the idea is to provide things like this in patches some time after the full games release, tbh they should work on Chernarus itself atm and make it amazing.

That already exists. Express bullet trade, you simple load your desired bullet of exchange into your prefered firearm and you "trade" directly with the player.

Currency would be sweet, maybe a stalker type shop

get out of here

Why not make your own shop? Give players bullets in trade for food.

Get more bullets when you sell that food.

At the end of the day you will have enough bullets and food as any of the scavengers that went past combined.

just to keep things going and I am bored at work

#1 all the major cities should be near the water assuming you all care about immersion, almost all major cities IRL are near water ports since that was a major mode of transporation for goods/trade etc..., cities all sprung up around major ports.

#2 I fully agree with the opinion that you should respawn in the same spot you logged off when hopping servers.  However there should be a way to prevent that being abused.  You could possibly introduce a back off and wait algorithm based on how regularly a person is doing it.  If you are logging back in on another server for the first time since last week, then no penalty.  If you are logging back in from 30 seconds ago into another server there is a penalty (maybe you are forced to sit out a cool down period, maybe you can not pick up any new loot for 5 minutes) - if it is the 3rd time you've done so in 5 minutes the penalty escalates.  There are many ways to give players the conveanance of logging into whatever server they want and at the same time prevent malicious use of hopping.

If and only IF there is a differentiation between ping kicks, BE kicks etc, and a regular I'm changing servers disconnect.

Uhh, idk why you kind of people have no idea why this is a problem. For a game that is going to be released for a price having no PR is a huge issue, look at The War Z/Infestation:Survivor Stories. No PR and it failed, promising the game and giving no information over and over again is a problem. Then when you cannot fulfill your promises you go radio silent? That is another problem, I am afraid it will diminish the success of the game without some communication with the community about what is happening.

No PR?  Dunno about you but it had enough PR given it was pretty much a scam, and it didn't fail because of not enough PR, it failed because it was a rushed cash grab that made shittonnes of promises and hype.  "BUY NOW AND GET 50000 INGAME Z DOLLARZ!  FOR A EXTRA $50 BUY A DEMO COPY FOR EACH OF YOUR FRIENDS!  HERE LOOK AT THESE PRETTY PICTURES, What? NO, fuck no you can't see the videos..."  If anything it failed because of too much negative PR.

ScamZ rant aside, Rocket doesn't want hundreds of thousands of keys being sold when it's still in Alpha, when the game is at its most (playable) shitiness.  I'm not even sure if he wants to sell a thousand keys when it's in alpha.  He wishes the hype train would derail and the passengers would move on to the next 'shiny object' so that the people who want to test are left.  I mean lets not sell the chicken before the egg is fertilized.  Let's wait till at least Beta if not Release (actual release release, where that 0.x turns into 1.x) before we start having DayZ commercials on TV.

Hype can be a bad thing, so can PR, Rocket can't say a word in public (and that includes the internet) without someone reading/screaming at the top of their lungs on any message board they haven't been banned from yet: 'RELEASE DATE CONFIRMED: (insert random date here)'

Actually they said that there will be no limit on the alpha copies they sell on steam.

Also, hype is not what I am asking for. I am sick of anticipating a game that I consider will be amazing and then being disappointed each week it isn't released and there is still no word on whether or not it's coming out this year!

I know he won't put a limit on the keys, but he still only wants people who are serious about actually testing to buy it when it's alpha, rather than the 'dis gam suxs i wan my parens monies back' crowd.

I also seriously doubt if they know if it'll be out this year or not.  Hell it could release tomorrow after a quick review to see if it's good enough (doubt it) or it could take another month or two to fix one game breaking bug.  I'm kinda getting antsy myself, but I've got other things to distract me with, not the least of which is trying to find a job.

Listen, January 1st is an arbitrary date for release. In that sense, who cares if it's "this year" or not? Really, it's just another day. It will come out when it's ready. I don't know how many times people have to say this. They have internal release estimates, they don't always make them, they just can't be sure. End of story. That's it.

If you're sick of anticipating it just to be disappointed then stop anticipating it. If you're interpreting Rocket's statements as suggesting it will be out in the next couple weeks and it never happens then stop listening.

These are not real DayZ development problems. These are people's personal problems. There should have been a section opened up long ago on these forums where people could have DayZ alpha release group therapy sessions together, honestly.

Fair enough, I accept your points yet I have nothing else to do until I get my PS4 on Friday apart from complain about DayZ not being out lol.

The only gripe I've got and I don't whether this is due to the engine or perhaps performance, but animations in Arma 2 and the SA look (and in arma 2 feel) clunky. There's a lack of what I'd call 'finish' to the animations.

I don't think it will ever change. However in regards to the new skeleton, the new running animation looks much better!

The reason they are clunky in the standalone is because they haven't added all of the animations in.

Things change, things change a lot (speed for various actions, way the actions are animated, etc etc.) they ended up changing the animations a lot which takes a lot of time - a lot of the animations aren't really in sync with the action itself, why some of it looks a little strange.

I think that the animations are pretty good, I like the Arma 2 animations but that's just me. They will make the animations smoother as the game enters different stages but it is not a priority.

thing is some of the charm of dayz is the fact that not everything is done perfect !

some of the best fun in the game is through odd shit happening. while i do want obvious bugs fixed lets not polish it until there is nothing but a shiney thing.

Have you tried porn?  Should you not be of legal age in your country for such things please disregard.

Also, perhaps we need a soundproof room on these forums where people can scream random things and have a cry, without being covered with 6 feet of dirt (perhaps an open grave?) or fear of repercussions.

I have no developing experience. Thats just what i think. Never seen a game on the unity engine that has that much draw distance and detail at the same time.

Thats fair enough. my developing experience is super minimal too. Although you can just google "Unity mmo" and im sure you'll find many projects with those criteria.

Not realistic, wont happen.

1. Trade with a friend? Friend will give you items for free. mutual benefit.

2. Trade with unknown people? KoS is still going to be a big thing, plus, if you meet up with them, most likely friend them.

Proper large scale player driven economy wont happen, it needs a push, i think a store could work, doesnt have to be crazy. Also imagine how guarded it would be, would be fun trying to fight your way through, or (unrealisticaly) create a trading hub.

Trade with friend = probably only has what he needs.

Trade with a player pushed store, will likely have excess stock of many things.

And whats not to say you can have the shop boarded up almost fully except for a counter.

Then have some hidden sniper guards, they hear gunshots, potential threat may get a free bullet he may/ may not have been after.

It could work, but people just have to know about it.

A tight knit community like this could easily be notified that on such and such server, so and so are trying to create some sort of post apocalyptic economy downs such and such street.

Yeah im just saying a currency needs worth. Bullets are well and good, but you wont get any sort of formal trading and currency setup.

Do you need one?

Everyone has guns, everyone can be a pain in another's side, just do it as told and you can avoid a bullet.

Guys, I kind of wonder about bullets being the currency. Didn't Dean say ammo is going to be very rare? I thought we would have to like search days to have a full magazine of anything. I don't want the SA to be a deathmatch. And how are bullets supposed to be currency if they are rare as hell?

Not everything has to be as overinflated as the NZ dollar.

besides.

It would be... Oh ammo, pick it up anyway, see if i can swap it for something.

the value of the ammo would kind of coincide with its rarity/ usefulness/ convenience to the player.

No fixed price, just a convenient stackable item that could easily be used for trading.

What else would you trade in? anything that doesn't get used about as quickly as it spawns will just stack up and be super inflated.

Also as currency those bullets have extra trade value, no sense in capping away your money for a body full of broken loot.

Dont think it will be days for a mag. I also hope ammo isnt super rare, since even in the standalone it seems like if zombies make eye contact with you, then you're going to bleed out.

Guns can work in dayz, especially in the standalone. Just no sniper rifles and make the accuracy piss poor. Could have some fun street battles then.

I don't think have accuracy poor.

I think have greater recoil, I'm guessing most civilians don't know how to control a gun well when firing in quick secession or while firing full auto.

I would like hunting rifles though, with proper zeroing as suggested in a couple recent topics.

Sniping is a style of play. Don't completely remove it just because occasionally you get sniped without question.

No dmr's and only really bolt action hunting rifles should make enough difference.

Enough to make the first shot miss, and thats all he chance I think people deserve.

Maybe make the player zoom out when using the bolt and have to reaquire.
