November Round-up

Recommended Posts

hardly new idea many have asked for this my take was you spawn at many locations in houses all over the map maybe waking up in bed or in a barn whatever. the more spawn locations around the map will be more interesting.

If you read Rocket's post on reddit it seems that the poster you quoted may have taken him up wrong. I think he was reffering to the technical side of the spawn mechanics rather than changing the locations of spawn points. I may be wrong though as he did say "they are working on spawns" before his technical blurb

Easy solution would be to just make the spawned player not be recognized by zombies for 30 seconds. Change out the player tag after 30 seconds. Easiest fix in the world, would take 10 seconds to implement.

Easy isn't always good. This wouldn't only take away from immersion and atmosphere (30 seconds of running around and through zombies without them recognizing you?), it would also add some kind of cheap "shooter" feel to things.

I wouldn't like this at all.

Overcomplicated, much simpler ways to overcome this. +you're thinking in terms of the mod, not the standalone.

Change out the player tag after 30 seconds? What does that mean?

Not being recognized by zombies? How stupid would that look like? ^^

Once you leave the building doors, you automatically pass an invisible checkpoint which changes your tag into player. If you're still in the house after 20 seconds then it automatically does it. There, immersive? its like you just woke up to the zombie apocalyse, your character is lucky enough to still not be invaded, you got seconds to leave.

Im assuming zombies react to player tags. E.g. your 3D model is tagged as "player" not "wall" or "building". I cant explain it any simpler.

You dont see zombies chasing after mice or charging a tree. Players are identified as players by being tagged as players.

Umm, no, this solution would be easy to implement, i know first hand. Im not speculating.

I dabble in game development, im no genius or expert, but i know how shit works.

Edit: Shit, heres a half-baked semi-psuedocode

If Player =! tag.player

Then initiate sub-routine(tag.player)

sub-routine ()

time 20

Player.tag = tag.player

end sub-routine

else

OnTrigger door()

Player.tag = tag.player

Sorry for not following every single thread in these forums. I am well aware that this idea might've come up before. Just thought I put it in here. Apologies.

Was good read.

If we take coast spawns off the menu, I'd really like some varying spawns.

Maybe you spawn in crawling from a crashed car, or awake in a bus of blood smears.

Maybe you could spawn in a hospital bed at night, everything dark.

You grab a scalpel and do your best to escape.

The higher loot place you spawn the worse condition you'd end up starting out in with the zombies that you'd have to fight, its a natural balancer.

on my side i meant its alot easier to come up with great ideas than to actually make them work ;)

for eg id have unlimited amounts of zombies coming from everywhere walking dead basically ever present world linked up worlds/maps with reasons to go to places and a real time weather system based on true weather and real time lighting based on the actual time of day. numerous different vehicles different limitations more wild animals more over grown cities places like new york but like in i am legend .

could go on for hrs but the actual time to take to make that would be years yet i could come up with the idea and write it down in a hr. alot of difference from idea to project/game.

Hmmm, but the server seems to be empty. Can we trust those numbers at all?

I think Steam graph shows the number of people who launched the game through Steam, not people in the server. It's possible they cannot join because of the  critical join crash bug :( Not looking good.

We got 4 playing according to game tracker and it is only morning for you guys in the good ol' US of A. It's a possibility that tonight could have a 50 person server test.

EDIT: make that 5 with hicks having now entered the server. I predicting a new screenshot appearing later on.

Today I woke up. Had my coffee and cigarette, then this tune came and forced it self into my mind. I'm probably going crazy.. but.... but.... "I can feel it in my fingers/ I feel it in my toes/ Dayz is all around me/ And so the feeling grows". Though it might not be today, it'll happen soon.

this is the song i always think of with DayZ SA tbh.

My point was that there are zombies in the house, maybe even right infront of the spawn point. You cannot prevent this from happening. Problem two, which stays unsolved is the player problem. I don't want people to spawn right next to me when I have gear I collected for like 5 weeks. I don't want a broken spawn system to kill me because it was to stupid to calculate another spawn point for the fresh spawn.

Lol m8 you never call sleep in a sub or main thread, in fact you never call sleep at all in proper game development --if that's what "time 20" is supposed to mean.

Also, since the client retrives relative info, it'd be more along the lines of a dynamic class being setup, and a part of that class is defined as the server info, hence if(player.isTagged())

anyway m8 im no expert, im just expert if you know what i am saying right now

I said semi-pseudo code. time 20 wasn't code. (And it also depends on what language im using, which you dont know)

Also, what you said made no sense.

Infact

Game monitor says it's just smasht and test in the server atm. Gametracker only acknowledges smasht.
