Best settings for spotting people

Not really. Its a well known, easy to use exploit that you are at a disadvantage if you dont use because everyone else is using it.

 

If your in the woods you would be stupid not to use it. If you dont everyone will be able to see you while you cant see them.

Maybe thats the equality in somebody having a slow system that cant run high graphics. So they see you further but you have better fps/connection etc. Now that its used its just cheap if you have a good Operating System.

You're stupid to use it. Setting your graphics to a lower setting to have an advantage over other people is douchebaggery plain and simple. The only reason settings should be low, is to make the game playable for yourself. Just because everyone does it, doesn't mean you should. You know what that's called? It's called being a sell-out. My reasoning tho is why is it fair for people who have no choice but to play on low settings to see everyone in the woods when no one else can see them? People who have to play on low settings have really been granted a blessing in disquise.

 

I play on high settings just to have the better graphics but I wouldnt be upset if I had no choice but to play on low just for this reason. The smart move would be to put my settings on low.

 

I dont think its fair to say that people who have to play on low settings can have this advantage (even tho they have no choice) but then say its unfair for someone else to have that same advantage just because they can run on higher settings.

Wrong. Have you ever played dayz on an older pc? Having like 10-15fps with constant graphic lag/tearing during combat? Imagine yourself in that position fighting someone who gets 60fps. You consider that fair, but you find low settings unfair? Quite hypocritical. Yes maybe the other guy can spot you easier than you can spot him, but he has multiple other disadvantages compared to you.

I'm playing on a core2duo system, and have all settings cranked up to high. Only thing I got disabled are shadows because it would crash every 15-20 minutes. Dayz has some wonderful scenery, and playing on purpose on low settings just to have an advantage is not only idiotic -as you miss this scenery and the immersion- but also a very wrong approach to this game.

If there playing on a PC that can run smooth on low settings with no lag and etc then they would have a huge advantage. If they are on a PC that lags no matter what of course they will be at a disadvantage no matter what due to low FPS and lag.

 

So yes it is like saying people playing on better PC's cant have this advantage but others can. If you want to choose grahics over the smarter setting then do so.

 

I go with graphics but I wouldnt think less of anyone who went with a smarter setting.

This helps you see loot that may be on the ground and you can imagine how well you're hiding on a hill when someone is X meters away. To me, there's really no noticeable difference other than that, with the settings. People stand out in most environments, unless they have proper camo.

I said I didn't support him doing this for the sake of getting that cheap edge in PvP. I also said I personally don't notice a significant difference other than changing how far away grass and foliage renders because people stand out in DayZ unless they're in camo.

You dont need to shoot all the Zeds to find out what is at the heli sites.Just stand back 100+ meters and look through your binoculars or scope and see everything the crash site has to offer without going near it.

 

Same for your tents,cars,heli,ect.You think you are hiding them or your self in the trees? On low there are no trees or grass but you  and your gear are still there.

Due to my laptop not being that great, I am forced to play on low settings, however should/when I be given the option to turn grass/textures and everything up, I shall do just that. Disadvantage or not, I find it abhorred to exploit things regardless of who does it.

Now that I think about it, from when I recall, having the settings that affect the trees up higher makes it easier, for at a distance with everything on low the trees tend to morph together.

Best way to spot people is to maintain situational awareness.  Regardless of settings if you don't practice good awareness you'll be that asshat that gets constantly sniped or ambushed or worse complain that some one invisible killed you.

 

• Periodically stop and notice any movement.
• Swivel your head
• Zoom in and zoom out into likely ambush areas
• When stopped scan across other tree lines with binos or teloscoped rifles
• Even in the forest run from one hard point to another.  Try to avoid using auto key press and going for a smoke.

I have a decent system but the settings are not maxed out.  I do this to keep a constant 60 fps in the game.  For me it isn't entirely about advantage but what for me is the optimal game performance without having it look like arse.  Yes I don't need 60 fps to play Dayz but it affords enough tolerance to handle situations in the big cities were the fps can drop significantly.

 

By the way game looks stunning on max but I'm not about to fall off the roof of the firehouse because of lag.
