Dear Rocket and his team, no private hives, please.

By that I mean you have to find them, if there is 950 vehicles in a server you can find them a WHOLE lot easyier.

 

To be honest I've never found it any easier to find vehicles on a 500 vehicle server than a vanilla server.  Excluding helicopters as the increased helicopter count can make a big difference.

The problem is, they're killing the official and real servers. All the populated servers are now Pay2winZ.

 

Your information is clearly misguided and heavily incorrect. Private hives saved the dayz population. FACT. If it were not for private hives, no one would be playing the mod anymore due to rampant hacking of public hives.

Mods such as epoch now hold more players than public hive. 

 

Your view on private hive clearly stems from an single, or a few bad experiences. Please don't paint all servers with the same brush, and try to use your head before dishing the dirt.

It is actually somewhat true. For those of us that want to play vanilla DayZ mod private hives private hives have pretty much ruined the game, although they were definitely a good thing to start with.

I don't see what the problem is.  If you don't like private hives don't play on them.

find busy private hive admin clan group who run it any mode or mod they have on there have best gear everything all the time. you think they randomly found it guess again spawned in everytime they crash a heli never fixed anything all justa click of admin tools.

 

someone kills admin bang straight to tools that guy is there bang spawn in something straight to live location of player who killed him bang player dead . how you know where i was ? i had a rough idea and a lucky spawn :rolleyes:

 

that sums up private servers now ! i uninstalled the mod as its not ruined by hackers anymore its ruined by most admins just getting all gear instantly and using tools. no punishment no rules just do as they want.

 

SA is a standalone game. nothing other than governed by official additions by the dev team should be in it.

 

soon as private servers or hives are available ill unistall the game as just like now the exact things that are locked down will be the first things unlocked and abused :( .

Pretty much agree with this entire thread. Would just like to input however, private hives were excellent before people began modding them. I would very much like to see a way in which private hives exist in SA, but are however unable to be modded in any way. (Another thing i disliked about public hive was the server hopping/ghosting which to be fair is one thing private hives were able to solve to a certain extent).

Obviously, no one here has ever had to deal with the insane amount of server hoppers and garbage ghosting PRICKS that infested the main hive during its hey-day.

 

Back before private hives, everyone was a server hopper. There was no point to going into the barracks because someone would magically appear out of the air behind you as you go in.

 

I've had someone hop-in INSIDE the barracks I was in and just straight murder me with an AS50.

 

I've had people server-hop to get behind me in places.

 

I've seen server-hoppers dropping in and out of every single high-value spot for nearly every goddamn servers. Churchs, fire stations, the military spots. It's complete garbage.

 

When I scope out a place on a private hive, I KNOW it's clear. I know I can go and loot the tents at Stary and watch the horizon for targets. I don't need to check each and every single goddamn tent each fucking second I'm there just in case some server-hopping little bitch decides to log in to my server.

 

I hate the pussification of DayZ. I can't stand the '10,000 vehicles start with DMR' BULLSHIT that is infesting this game. But I also hate the main hive. I hate it with a passion. It breaks the immersion of the game completely and gives the game to the server-hoppers in its entirety. No military area is 'ripe for the picking' because it's already been server-hopped to death. No base is fortified because people can log in behind the walls. No area is safe, no matter how long you look at it because someone can just magically appear in it. Fuck, even the goddamn deer stands get server-hopped to death. It's just garbage.

 

So yeah, fuck the 10,000 vehicle servers, and fuck the people who enjoy them. They've already killed the mod entirely.

 

But private hives are the best thing to happen to this game. And I will never, ever choose a hive server over a private hive.

Private hives didn't kill the vanilla dayz. Hackers and cheaters did. I still play vanilla dayz but on a private hive. I don't say it's hackers free, but at least not as many.

Yes hackers and cheaters also killed vanilla dayz, also the server hopping. Private hives would be OK if they would give them less control over them or something. Private hives are still breaking the game for me.

There's nothing wrong with self bloodbagging - just make it a 5 minute process. Jeez guys, if you can bloodbag someone else, you can bloodbag yourself. If you make the self bloodbagging a long process, there's a risk in doing it and it doesn't let someone in combat heal themselves quickly. Bloodbagging someone else should take a minute at least too.

 

Saying all that though, why have the mechanic there at all? you don't heal people with bloodbags, perhaps the healing process should be a much slower...err, process?

Although I first thought it could be cool to let people mod the game so that they could improve it, I have realized that people gamers cannot be trusted.

I'd hate to see the standalone make server admins fat, selling AS50 respawn loadouts to pay2win players turning a survival experience into Quake, like some did in the mod.

Completely agreed, OP.

 

Although I first thought it could be cool to let people mod the game so that they could improve it, I have realized that people gamers cannot be trusted.

 

Give the opportunity to the gamers for changing or modding the great game ideas, they even can turn the PES into a bullshit rpg fastest magical pay2win style game... I realised that after this stupid EPOCH mod came out.

No the self blood bag defeats teamwork. Lone wolfs should be at a disadvantage, realisticly. In a real zombie apocalypse, if you got hurt, broken leg and all that, and you had a friend to help you, it's always better then being on your own. The self blood bags make it arcadey.

Private hives have evolved the game. There are MANY private hives that have made the game more difficult and faster paced, while providing much more of an end-game with base building etc.

 

Our server is rigorously policed by our active admins, we have 3 different types of anti-hack running, and have made the game what WE want it to be.

 

No one is forcing you to play on it, or any server. There are many really well documented vanilla servers with great active admins who run them fairly. Truth is as everyone says private hives saved the mod.

 

For instance, there are many mods out there that increase damage from zeds, have much better pathfinding AI, have removed and fixed many bugs the actual dev team for the alpha has ignored.

 

The great thing about it is we are all having fun, and as it is now, there is a DayZ for everyone's taste, from vanilla to the wild 1500 heli servers, and everything in between.

 

You take that away, and I think you will be surprised at the outcome.

Cool story.

If you dont like it dont play on it.

I personally play on vanilla servers.

I still have loads of fun joining  random hives once in a while.

I like a more casual experience here and there.

Think about it, If private hives were stale nobody would join them.

They would be non existent.

Also no Hive will be private because rocket wants to regulate loot heavily in the SA, EX only having one thermal weapon ever spawn. EVER.

But what about the modding community? For many Games they are a important part.

But i also have to say that i dislike most of the dayz mods. For instance the Epoch mod.

I never played it because it was enough for me to see the pictures of odd colored vehicles that look crappy like hell because of bad (lets say missing) textures. This unreal stuff should be forbidden! xD

 

I think the solution to have both (Vanilla and Modded Official Servers) would be the following:

 

Any Mod needs to be presented to the community and voted by them. The best mods need to pass a test from the devs to make it in the official servers. If one payed to have an official server, he then can choose from all available "Official Mods". These mods take care of balancing and realism and dont have too big impact on gameplay.

 

In the server selection screen the player can see non vanilla servers marked with an M. When mouse over he can see a list of all active mods on the server.

This would make life easier :)

That's what I was thinking ... how about both? As long as the are official and NOT private.

 

As Dallas said I would hate to see server admins profit from the game. So .... I think BI should profit. Give those who want Stand Alone Easy Mode the opportunity to "PURCHASE" as DL content the means to customize loadouts or what have you and use this new content on a separate set of official servers. Or just charge a small monthly fee for access to these additional servers.

I only like the private hives that make it so you can savage vehicles, first person only (more hardcore), Custom anti-Hack. Anything other than that too me is worthless to my gaming time.

This is where I kind of disagree.

 

Drawing from what we know about Chernarus, we can conclude that there are probably well into the tens of thousands of people living there. There are roads and highways present, as well as cities and towns. How do you think these people get around? It's certainly not by walking. I believe that more cars = better post-apoc game. However, those cars should be broken and require heavy maintenance to operate.

 

I'm not saying 1000 cars is the best option, but it is a realistic one. Depends on the context.

 

Hmm, I have never thought of it this way, but you have a very good point.

So... You support the death of DayZ then?

 

People join private hives because they take DayZ and crank down the difficulty to easy mode. Add in some donations for custom military loadouts so owners can pocket some change and Whalla! 30 or so players that don't play DayZ the way it was meant.

 

You aren't supposed to get the upper hand in DayZ. It's supposed to be harsh and unforgiving. Private hives take that concept, eat it, vomit it out, eat the vomit, shit out the remnants, and then piss on it.

 

Personally? I honestly regret ever contributing to the Private Hive concept by owning one.

I too play as lone wolf time to time, yet I prefer when I'm at a disadvantage for being a lone wolf, but I also get the advantage when it comes to hearing things, being more stealthy, etc.
